I don't regret one bit the spankings I received as a child. They were few, far between and well deserved. I'm a better man for being disciplined as a child. So many people want to be their child's "friend" that they don't know how to even be parents. When I worked as a cop, and later in juvenile probation department I saw a lot of kids that wouldn't of been in the system if they had been spanked...

Yeah, but her concern makes sense. It's so hard to hear your kids get a spanking, if you can do something to prevent it, or lessen it, you feel like you should (even if you know in your heart they deserve it, and wouldn't benefit from leniency).

A father really needs to recognize this though, and know that if his wife nudges him away from a spanking, he my need to temper his response but not necessarily change his decision (especially if he already told the children it's happening).
