the entire first side of this album is classic....like a 21 minute movie in sound that slows down time and knocks me back 25 years...So cool...guys from Sheffield singing about knives!! he he
Is it me, or does this singer not really sound like the Stephen Fellows from the first 3 albums? I'm pretty sure it is, although it doesn't look like him. I lost track of them after this album. I heard they broke up. "Sleep No More" is their masterpiece.
The Comsat Angels have announced they're doing doing a 2009 UK tour on October 22, 23 & 24 in Glasgow, Manchester and London. Tickets are on sale now at The Gig Cartel (dot) com
As much as a smart album Chasing Shadows is, I cant understand why they didnt put "Somethings Got To Give" on it, the B side off the Cutting Edge single, its such a fantastic song, especially as the album only had nine tracks as well, its worth getting the single just for that non album track.
Definitely overtones of The Blue Nile... Tinsletown in the Rain. I quite like it. The CA's escaped me back in the 80's which is a sham cos they sound like a really decent band.
The Comsat Angels have announced a reunion gig in Sheffield, England on April 26th. It will be at the O2 Academy as part of the Sensoria Festival. They will be performing songs from the first three albums only.
The lyrics for anyone who wants them: Rain on a windscreen makes a rhythm. The line up the centre leads the way. The music plays but I don't listen. I don't want to hear the things they say. Cold and sharper than a knife. "This is for the best," I said. But Lord help me I'm mystified. It seems I got the cutting edge. And I swear there's nothing in it. But still the wheels keep turning 'round. And like some old persistent spirit, yea. This one will take some driving out. (main verse)
Yes the vinyls pretty easy to come by these days, i got my copy off ebay, the CD versions of Chasing Shadows, Land and 7 Day Weekend are as rare as hens teeth though, but definately worth getting. Great to see Waiting For A Miracle, Sleep no more, Fiction and My Minds Eye reissued by Renascent-big props you guys, people need to hear these albums.
Seen them 3 times live... the last time in a wee disco club in grorningen, holland. I couldn't stand the fact that such a great band had to fall so deep, apperently... Still a great tune from a very underrated band
Comsat Angels frontman Steve Fellows has posted solo music on his MySpace page! YouTube does not allow URLs here, so to listen to it type 3ws (dot) myspace (dot) com (slash) stephenfellows
Saw them live with Shriekback in 87 in Boston. My Chasing Shadows CD 'corrupted' a few years back. I'm still waiting for the RIAA to send me a new one to honor the license I purchased.
I'm very, very jealous. Those are two of the all-time underrated bands. It must have been a bit of a schizophrenic concert, though-- they have a very different sound.
I found a website which has a video of the Comsats playing After The Rain and What Else? Also some great photos of them performing in 1985. They don't let you post URLs on YouTube comments. But type 3Ws (dot) okkibox (dot) nl
What a voice Steve had! They were a truly inspiring band and I loved the fact they weren't well known in a selfish way cus it made you feel like you were in on one of musics best kept secrets. Love 'em.
Wow, can't thank you enough for posting this! Saw them @ The Ritz in'87, knocked me out! The sound was fantastic! This was the song that sold me; went out and got the album the next day. Thanks again!
a beautiful song...I read that this polydor phase was too poppy..but this songs is really beautiful, remind me to David Sylvian..I like all the reissued albums..what a great band!!
The "poppy" phase you are referring to was when they were signed to Jive, not Polydor. This song is from the album released after that, when they were with Island Records. In my opinion, it's their best!
While most of their albums have recently been re-released by Renascent, Chasing Shadows hasn't. The rights are tied up with Universal. By the way, Stephen Fellows has a MySpace page and promises to post some solo work there soon.
Thanks Brooklynite1, you're right!!!! Does that make my LP worth anymore???? lol. Check out Artery on Myspace, although I'm sure you already know of them. Another late 70's post punk band from Sheffield
their 1981 lp "sleep no more" is one of the greatest ever, "fiction" is pretty damn great too! i was supposed to see them in 1982 in hartford, connecticut butthe drummer got sick and they canceled. never got to see them, i got the flyer for the canceled gig still. bummer!
don`t let this song, the comsat angels and all the other post punk bands from the 80s fall into oblivion!

Brilliant, best song off Chasing Shadows, a nice late night jazzy vibe, and very atmospheric

I agree. There is nothing quite like it. What a unique band. Wish they would make their way back to Los Angeles.
