  • my gods, i feel compelled; apart from a few comments, the rest in effect display what was always wrong with the scene in the first place. I am glad I left. I'm off to listen to the genius of 'the loss and curse of reverence'. Enjoy your scene.

  • Amazing song, maybe the best one

  • Such underrated album ...

It's very loud full of sound and barok styled , demanding and quite hard to understand but indead it's a masterpiece and conteins music in so many layers.

It's so orginal , unical and irreplaceable pure style of Emperor.

It really helpfull to open mind for many rythms , new harmonies and rules of music.

    Very inspirating ...

One of best , unical and primele delicous BM albums.

Now i changed opinion , it beats ,,In Nighshide Eclypse "

    Amazing riffs;

    2:52 0:53 3:23

  • IN Norway, nobody competes with the Emperor. Also Sweden over Norway any day even if Norway pretty much made black metal.

  • Trym is so boss

  • Oh, fuck, and PLEASE let's not forget 1349. They alone settle the dispute. Norwegian black metal is where it's at.

  • Dude. Norway gave birth to black metal, through Mayhem. All the best black metal comes from Scandinavia. Exhibit A: This song. "Dispute" settled.

  • fuckin TRym, fuckin cover art, fuckin band !

  • A must have album!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No it's not "just noise" you pricks. I'm sorry we can't all aspire to such mediocrity as Billy Joel. Noise please...

  • i agree also norway sweden germany finland have superior black metal

marduk mayhem emperor carpathian forest gorgoroth abruptum etc

yes and im from usa with norwegian german heritage in me

  • One of my favourite albums! Spiritual

  • the cover is either a a castle with demons, or weed.

  • This is the best bm album ever written. Listening to these songs again takes me back to high school 10 years ago....

  • I agree. We got Wolves in the throne room, Book of black earth and Fall of the bastards

  • future talent is not to be brought from past talent..... black metal would have come early or late regardless of who started the genre......

  • dispite euronymous' oxymoron faggot ways, i gotta give 'em credit for the musical talent...

  • Que rolon

  • Black metal guitarists take heed: the guitar on this album sounds great because dude's gain isn't turned up to 11. The guitar sound on this album is achieved by running a ADA MP-1 TUBE preamp through a solid state Peavy Bandit. Mostly they didn't touch the settings on the bandit and used it as a poweramp.

  • Emperor = extreme lunacy and madness

  • Euronymous` personality was terrible, but that is a typical great riff in the beginning of his.

  • Norwegian BM was best during the early to mid 90's. But I agree. French and Finnish BM are better than the current crop.

  • will someone please explain to me where the notes are in this song?

is this a song? is it even musical at all?

  • @SqueezeMyLemonBabe Well... to say the least, it was a um... interesting song. Kind of intense, and full of entropy. I think it was written in rage, not the emotion that music should come from.

  • @SqueezeMyLemonBabe

Is this even msuical at all... I actually wondered the same thing when I first heard this album. All I could hear was drums ( or what sounded like drums), and white noise. Then one day it just clicked for me and I had the most profound musical experience of my life. I think anything written with genuine passion ages pretty well, and this feels like it hasn't aged a day.

  • OMG I lold so hard to the french black metal comment. Funniest shit I read in a while!

  • Shit! This is freakin intense!!!

  • The song is first I favorite black metal song!

  • i dont use the accident i deny it.-pollack

  • Unholy shiit! I forgot how good this track was. I should probably try finding my cd from the dusty storage for listening. Emperor hasn't lost any power this far with me; it might have even gotten better.

  • I have a deep respect to God and I call this a masterpiece.

  • now this proves Emperor had tons of great talent! This band has probably the fastest, most intense black metal songs I've ever heard!!

  • Without Norwegian bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone or Emperor, you wouldnt have French black metal. I can only get into 3 french bands: Kronos, Deathspell Omega and Massacra. I'm from the US, and our black metal scene is laughably bad, but you cant insult the Norwegian scene, because those bands are unmatched in talent and innovation.

  • @Havoc1025 New French band, Fallen Joy. Not really black metal but still kick ass

  • @Havoc1025

America has Wolves In The Throne Room. As far as I'm concerned they are one of the best BM bands

  • They are excellent, but we have no other bands that can even come close. Norway, Sweden, Germany and other nations have average of like 10 excellent bands and a bunch of medicore ones, while we in the US have 2 great bands, and a bunch of meh ones.

  • @Havoc1025 you guys are forgetting the band Weakling from San Francisco, they released one album Dead as Dreams which is a ridiculously good classic black metal album. Wolves in the Throne Room is essentially Weakling worship.

  • @Havoc1025 men, what is your opinion about Leviathan?

  • @Havoc1025 Afterlight is from US, and they're very fuckin' promising.

  • @Havoc1025 we have absu, from texas

  • I dislike absu, i just dont feel that epic black metal feeling from them. They cant match bands like Emperor, Darkthrone, Enslaved, Carpathian Forest or Mayhem. I consider them to be very average, no lose from having them, but they arent really a gain for the US. Just another generic black metal band to me.

  • @Havoc1025

Yeah but you have Xasthur, that's a really cool band.

In France, we have The Austrasian Goat and Blut Aus Nord, really awesome imo, I prefer it to Emperor but without Emperor, there would be no BM, we need to respect all the True Norwegian BM Old Wave.

Sorry for my bad English ^^

  • @Havoc1025 We also have Abigail Williams and Mictlantecuhtli (my two personal favorites in addition to Wolves in the Throne Room).

  • I havent heard of Mictlantecuhtli, but Abigail Williams im not a fan of. I mean, the US certainly has alot of bands, but the classic ones, as well as all the innovators of the genre come from Europe. Root, Bathory, Mayhem, Emperor, Shining, Watain, Belphegor, Asmodeus: all European.

  • @Havoc1025 you should listen to Mictlantecuhtli. They're "Aztec" Black metal. Very unique with an Iron Maiden/thrashy sound yet completely black metal

  • @Havoc1025 Don't be too hard on your scene, there have been some incredible bands from the USA I've heard. people also say the same about the English/British scene, but it's all about digging about for talent!

  • I love Eastern Front, thats a great UK black metal band. I do like Mythology and a few other local black metal bands, but the black metal bands that get big from the US tend not to be very good.

  • @Havoc1025 Wormsblood, Weakling, Draugar, Havohej, Profanatica, The Royal Arch Blaspheme are some of the USBM I'm really in to!

  • @DetonatorOrgan I'm listening to them right now and am pleasantly surprised.

  • @DetonatorOrgan

    And Leviathan

  • @DetonatorOrgan Don't forget Krallice. C: I write black metal myself, I'm from USA, its going to be awesome. Just wait. still writing/practicing what we have... me and my guitarist. just me and him no others.

  • @DetonatorOrgan No, America has Leviathan. They are one of the best to me.

  • @DetonatorOrgan Wolves In The Throne Room and Weakling :) - /watch?v=VU7EJNc6ipk

  • @Havoc1025 french black metal (like the rest of france) sucks balls.

  • @UIFRINN Go listen to Blut Aus Nord, Deathspell Omega, Smohalla, Peste Noire and you'll become clever

  • @Havoc1025 our black metal might be shit but our death metal ownz!

  • @Havoc1025 The US Blackmetal scene may not have as many great bands and Europe,However there are some Blackmetal bands from here that are quite good such as Ceremonial Castings,Inquinok,Kult of Azazel and Wolves in the throneroom.

  • @NocturneKing Also Absu, but that's black / thrash

  • @Havoc1025 Deathspell Omega is God Tier

  • @Havoc1025 Have you heard Negative Plane; They're worth a listen and they're from the US

  • @Havoc1025 Judas Iscariot and Leviathan are great too.

  • @Havoc1025

I feel like the US actually has currently the strongest "scene". Even better than France and to some extent, however blasphemous this may sound, rivals the Norwegian classics. The list is incredible: Judas Iscariot, Absu, Wolves In The Throne Room, Agalloch, Falls of Rauros, Njiqahdda, Panopticon, Leviathan, Lurker of Chalice, Xasthur, Epoch of Unlight, I Shalt Become, Weakling, Krieg, Twilight, Nachtmystium, Woe, Velvet Cacoon, Krallice, Cobalt, Gallowbraid, Skagos plus many more...

  • @blackmetalblunt I agree. A lot of those bands are great.

  • @Havoc1025 I think u r right, I'm listening to "Ye Entrancemperium" right now, and I've been a Venom and Celtic Frost fan since the 1980s too. I've watched the whole black metal scene since then, and the Norwegian bands have definitely been the most innovative ones, and they've been the ones that have had the most definitive impact on Black Metal music.

Black Metal is easily one of the biggest cultural exports from Scandinavia too.

  • @Havoc1025 u dont have a clue about the french scene.if u had u would also knew that french scene is totally independed and is starting a new black metal genre with shoegaze and post rock influences and there are greater bands than those u reffered.and yes us sucks and i believe americans should not comment european music

  • @backflip369159 Seriously, captain overgeneralization? Just because US mainstream music is garbage doesn't mean there aren't some real musicians here. Most of my favorite bands happen to be European and I've lived in the States all my life; and also studied music all my life. Why should I not comment on European music?

  • Comment removed

  • @Havoc1025 You are right. If we are talking about french BM, you should definetely listen to Blut aus Nord. Their LP 'The Work which transforms God' is a pure masterpiece. Avantgarde, mad, disturbing BM.

  • Comment removed

  • @Havoc1025 BIG FAN here from Black Witchery and Judas Iscariot! but Norsk scene is KINGindeed! like Florida with DM !

  • @Snip714 If you laugh at Emperor's music, then I would like to know what you say about the French Black Metal... And I have 3 words for you: Les Legions Noires. Maybe that's better music than Emperor...

  • @Snip714 haha. french black metal.......

  • @Snip714 Lol french black metal?no such thing, just french bands trying to be dark and evil.Only good thing to come out of france is Gojira.

  • @666MetalMatt I'd say Deathspell Omega and Arkhon Infaustus aren't that bad.

  • @Snip714 Babby's first troll. 0/10

  • @Snip714

    Primo: No.

Secundo: But French fucked off of the World War II.

  • @Snip714 the only good french bm band is moonreich

  • @Snip714

*chuckles* classic France. On a pedestal so high, you freeze in the upper atmosphere.

  • @Snip714 do you have any idea of how much us norwegians laugh at the crap from france? This type of black metal originated in scandinavia you ignorant asshole

  • I think I was like 13 or something when I first heard this album and I had no idea what black metal was. This song changed my life although at first, the production made little sense to me :')

  • I don't get why people bitch about the production. I can hear all the instruments perfectly fine and it's not overdone to the point where there's no atmosphere.

  • Epic and atmospheric. I LOVE THE MIXING OF THE ALBUM! It's perfect.

  • HAIL SATAN!

  • ====> 0:56 EPIC

  • Do you know, that the riff at the beginning of this song was composed by Euronyomous? Now you know that ;]

  • the intro was maked by EURNOYMOUS

    HAIL MAYHEM AND EMPEROR

  • fucking love this song, although i think the vocals are a little quiet

  • I don't see how people can listen to this shit.

  • @R3allyBored People they just kinda don't think about it, they just listen to it and except it for what it is.. Not for what you want it to be.. Its an acquired taste, that brings out how you feel in a way you cant explain. Its music if you cant feel it you might need to open your taste up to something that isn't related to your ego and every day life.

  • @Kioooi

    Alright I can understand that.

  • hail to emperor...and to all our nordic brethren!

  • Music of my youth... Twelve years later still sounds right...

  • This Song of Black Metal Anthem

  • I dont hear the horrible mixing, i think its done actually very well. Also, ITS FUCKING BLACK METAL, its supposed to sound raw and primitive. Its supposed to show how great music doesnt need to be produced to the highest extent to be amazing. And personally, i think this is a masterpiece that doesnt have to be polished to be good. The synth is amazing, the guitar is great and Ihsahn sounds as great as ever on the mic. The drums dont drown out anything, and they keep the song going.

  • @Havoc1025 i would have to agree with agree with you...this record is a perfect balance of the rawness you described and the superior craftsmanship of emperor..i can appreciate a very polished sound like new satyricon..or..i can also like ulvers "madrigal" which is very raw...its all about if the vision of the artist come through the work..in this case i say yes

  • @Havoc1025 it is mixed bad. you cant actually hear vocals, keyboard, and drums well. it feels like they all are put one on the top of another. ok its supoosed to be raw but at the same time the distinctive soundtracks dont have to overlay one another. still my favourite by emperor.

  • I hear the drums, vocals and keyboards fine, Emperor has never had up front-vocals, they have always had that feeling on the older albums of being more distant and "quieter" than that of the drums/guitar/synth. I think the more raw mixing adds to the atmosphere of it, as opposed to being polished and sounding overproduced.

  • @tophers402 everything sounds great. you are just gay thats all

  • @tophers402 here's your reasoning process: this doesn't sound like tool, hence it must be wrong.

  • @tophers402

    NO U

  • @tophers402you dont know what music is, if you dont like black metal then go listen to some back street boys or something with ''good'' sound, im an audio engineer, and i know how to record, but i like black metal and almost all kinds of metal as well, from the cleanest to the rawest and primitive, its just music! doesnt matter if the mixing was good or not, just listen to it if you like it, if you dont, save your comments to yourself or go tell this crap to some justin or katty perry fan.

  • @tophers402 Well you clearly miss the point of black metal. If you can't handle it then shut up and leave

  • its been soo long since ive listened to this band soooooooooo good

  • Simply awesome, gettin the Goose bumps when i listen to this

  • the dude does drum like a mofo on this! But the best part of this song is the awesome guitars! I think thats just an awesome way to start off a classic album! awesome riff after awesome riff!!

  • How come you panzies aren't commenting on trym's out standing drums

  • Anthems is my favourite Emperor record. The atmosphere is so epic, the riffs are stunners, the compositions outstanding!

  • @Drobanybody

I have to say that In the nightside Eclipse is my favorite. I love Ihshan's vocals and all of their synthesis on that record. But i think their riffs were much better on anthems.

  • @Havoc1025 really?lol i think the opposite, i think the riffs are very well worked out on nightside of the eclipse, but anthems like drobanybody said the atmosphere is very magical and epic more worked out with keyboards

  • @Havoc1025 I understand this will probably seem spam, but if you want, listen to the three US black metal songs (in two video posts), under the project title of Styrkenor, on my page. Granted, it's not "straight" black metal, but then again neither is anything off Anthems :)

  • One of their best songs! Hail Emperor!
