  • what a Bliss this Mozart!

  • MAESTRO MAESTRO!!!

  • Bravo dude, you just made me believe in God, the way u played - totally awesome

  • @pebblefrog196 well u obviously arent very good then if you dont understand the need for those "faggoty-looking" barrels

  • @xXgiftedmusicianXx Great way to make an assumption. Look up Sabine Meyer; she uses matching bells and barrels on her clarinet and shes better than Julian Bliss.

  • I'm sorry, but I don't see why people find the need to use those faggoty-looking bells and barrels. The normal ones work fine.

  • @pebblefrog196 they work fine yes, but they don't sound as good as the faggoty ones do ;3

  • @ryankO0sh It's called long tones. :D

  • what kind of barrel is that?

  • @rangerxx345 It is a MOBA barrel.

  • This is a great display of his musicianship. The only thing I can't fathom is how many of the notes are not in tune with the orchestra... I never expected to hear this from Julian Bliss. I mean, it's still an amazing show of artistry... I was just surprised.

  • my band director told me to wach this and see how amazing it was...he was so right...me, being a clarinet love this :)

  • @dragonkaikarate lol your a clarinet

  • @LouieOmega haha totally not what i meant :P

  • @dragonkaikarate lol its okay. You dont have to accept it now but one day youll realize... I am a clarinet. and then youll feel FUCKING AMAZING.

  • @LouieOmega :) yes i will :)

  • @dragonkaikarate i can imagine this being amazing being a clarinet

  • @alleballeism :) lol

  • Julian Bliss is the same person Jonny Bliss ? Thanks

  • Adagio= slow, for all u music lovers

  • sensacional toca muito

  • isso é musica a mais béla espresção

  • One of the world's most lovely melodies played by one of he world's greatest clarinetists. Yes, there are others who are excellent too, but Julian does a great job.

  • I rather like how he plays this. He plays it with youthfulness and naivety but still uses a contradictive understanding of emotion and comprehension of beauty. He presents the piece in a way I've never thought about before. Kudos to him. That's why this piece is so amazing. It is different for each person, each place, each time.

  • Martin Frost is much better than Julian Bliss

  • @pecas20101 Yeah, and Bliss was 17 when he played this, and Frost is in his 30's, or maybe older. So yeah, I don't even know why you bother to point this out.

  • @pecas20101 who gives a crap. in my opinion, bliss is far better than frost. just because of where he is now. martin frost will never have the technical and emotional abilities that julian bliss brings every time he gets out his horn to even practice. so why bother to post crap about someone. hes a great artist.

  • Awesome. This guys is really an inspiration. Love the circular breathing when he exits the cadenza... too cool. I find the second mvt a bit hasty though. A tick too fast for my taste. This adagio develops a much darker, sadder, even fragile and vulnerable character if you play it a bit more leaning backwards (compare Martin Fröst's version). IMO, this adagio is one of the most difficult pieces in clarinet literature. Every single note has to be played just right. Very, very tough.

  • Julian is why I take my clarinet out everyday and practice. He inspired me to aim higher. Thank you Julian!

  • I played this for solo and ensemble in 2010 and recieved a 1. A lot of breath support and control of air. I practiced it for months. One of my favorite clarinet pieces to play. I think Julian Bliss plays it the best, I am entitled to an opinion!

  • Bit of hush please guys I cant hear the music for your bickering!

Do some people just watch and listen so they have something to

complain about! People searching for that elusive tone Ive got

bad news for you yes instrument ,reed ,mouthpiece all play a part

but the big big factor is human, the throat ,mouth, tongue I dont

know but as a musician for over sixty years Ive heard them all !

Ive worked with great players who sound like strangled cats

    (or tradies OOPS)

  • great cadenza. i'm going to steal it.

  • He plays leblanc because he is an associate with them. The Bliss model clarinet is by him and leblanc. idk whatever.

  • why is he using a leblanc for classical music, especially this, this was made for buffet!

  • @basil1227 i prefer leblanc

  • why is he using a leblanc for classical music, especially this, this was made for buffet!

  • @basil1227 if u can play well then it doesnt matter what instrument you play pretty much. leblancs are not bad.

  • Giant blueberrys on the celing at 4:17,and his embouchure is sort of like oboe embouchure and it works really good.He sounds amazing.

  • He played that horn like it grew out of him. Sigh! Now what kind of big ol' fffffat barrel is THAT under the lip piece and above he rest!?! Is that the secret of it all to his decadently extremely high-calorie RICH & savory sound, I always coveted but didn't have the DNA to render or is that just makes for the stem to the cherry on the icing on the pecan pie for his terrific tone production? I think I'd like to go off somewhere and have a good cry to drain myself into some crack in the ground.

  • Great sound just love it

  • I know This awesome chap!! Lived next to him for 6 years! woop! Go Julian!!!

  • Magnificent....he has much to learn and much growing to do...which why I can't wait 20 years from now...when his playing will become Simply amazing.

  • just saying, he circular breathes at 4:04, and I bet most of you saying you're better can't.

  • @TheCatsPajamas098

    indeed! omg... that's awsome =D

  • Sweating so much.

I get like that too :c

The outfits and playing infront of so much people :P

He's amazing, but everyone gets nervous >.<

  • This guy came to my arts school for a little performance

just so you know this guy is like one of the best clarinet players out there now...

  • I can't believe that he is only 21

  • what kind of clarinet is he playing? i love his sound

  • is he using a morrie backun cocobolo barrel?

  • Nice barrel

  • Music like this sounds like it came from some celestial palace...in other words, amazing, wonderful, beautiful. :D

  • guess what, im playing this and i have ony been playing clarinet for a year!

  • @etpenusee well, can you do this without notes, as clear and no mistakes at all...as loud but still in a fine tone... its not a hard song, but you need to know if its clear and beatifull...

  • How does he get that tone O_O i wish i could get that tone but due to my crappy 25 year old school rental clarinet I DOUBT that will happen

  • Jules is one of my friends in hertfordshire, i go out with him alot and i can truly say he is the most dedicated musician I have ever met and he loves fast cars!

  • Julian Bliss is deffently my favorite clarinet player. =]

  • Magistral Mozart...

  • Speechless.

  • simply the best

  • he is awesome.! hopefully i be that gewd gawd nobody in region band compares to his beautiful sound.!

  • I play the clarinet to and he is so good compared to what I sound like! This is amazing

  • fu ck Martin Fröst is more good than this N00b

  • EZwaitlist you sound like a dumbass arguing to everyone that it is not a basset clarinet....go do some research and smarten yourself up, then come back and try convincing everyone on the comment list that its an A clarinet

  • It doesn't matter whether this is an A Soprano-Clarinet or an A Bassettclarinet. (It is in deed an A Bassettclarinet), this piece of music is once again brilliantly performed by another young clarinetist of an outrageaous career. JUST ENJOY.

  • That is NOT a basset clarinet, it is an A Clarinet. I am so sick of you dumb ass people acting like you know what you are talking about. I highly doubt any of the smart asses on here have ever played a damn instrument. Those of you who made normal comments, thank you.

  • @ezwaitloss errrrm, that is a basset clarinet :P

  • That is NOT a basset clarinet, it's a B-flat clarinet. The sound is somewhat sour (in places) but overall it was good.

  • @ezwaitloss its a basset A clarinet :P

  • Stupendo!Immortale.!Grazie Mozart

  • He plays so beautiful... That almost made me cry... He's very handsome and very talented. An amazing Clarinet player, played at a young age- and now he's fully grown. ^.^ I wish i was a clarinetist like him...

  • what kind of clarinet is that?

  • A flat, its not the one that most ppl are used ot play, but its the second most common, its lower than the Bb one so the notes sound a lot lower than they actually r

  • FALSE. It is not an Ab clarinet.

    It is an A Clarinet.

  • @MasterOfClarinets Oh hell no this is a bassett clarinet... the A clarinet is only like an inch longer than the Bb and this is wayyy longer than both.

  • @blueheat45

u obviously have not seen a basset clarinet, most basset horns have a slightly curved barrel, somewhat like a saprano sax neck shape.

That's an A he's playing on, custom made. If you just used your brain it would tell you it's an A. This concerto is for clarinet in A, not basset horn in F(/G), Mozart is pretty damn specific in the instrument he writes for.

  • There are versions of the piece written in and played in Basset clarinet. And if you think you're so correct, why don't you prove it by providing proof rather than just stating that it's a "custom made clarinet". Who told you? And if it is, why the hell would that be common knowledge which my brain would love to tell me if I asked it? Perhaps you are the one who should think before being arrogant.

  • sure, if you believe that's a basset horn, i cant stop you. maybe u should provide proof rather than stating that it's a basset clarinet just because its long. many many clarinet players, especially in europe extends their clarinet to play notes lower than the E, which is quite common. and the easiest way to find out? use a tuner, tune that freaking thing, im sure he wouldn't be playing a piece in A major with an F horn or vice versa. result: tonic is A. anymore useless arguements u wanna make?

  • @CompleteFoolProof this is not an A clarinet, I happen to own an A clarinet and it looks nothing like that. I have looked up the basset clarinet and this looks remarkebly like it. I also looked at other people playing this on youtube and they have the same clarinet type. It is a basset clarinet.

  • @CompleteFoolProof Well Mozart composed this Concerto specifically for his friend Anton Stadler. Stadler had two Clarinets specially made. These being a Basset Clarinet in A and a Basset Clarinet in Bb. The reason the Basset A was used is because A major is a very good key for strings and due to the lack of Chromatic keywork available at the time (Stadler's clarinet had something like 7 keys on it in total) it would have been impossible to play on his Basset Bb (B major-5 sharps).

  • @bioniclebandgeek Basset A clarinet

  • Zrobił by furorę w "Mam Talent":) - żarcik. Jest po prostu świetny!

  • I'm using this as my lyrical piece for college audiotions

  • same...I changed my mind just recently to play the adagio instead of the Allegro...now ot learn an etude form the frnehc book..uggh

  • that's exactly what I'm doing

  • i love this guy.

  • omg!!! me 2 we gonna get married!!!! haha lol

  • lol the picture is super sharp

  • Wow! What a beautiful tone.

  • I'm playing this for solo and ensemble!

  • I play Clarinet! (:

    He is Amazing!

  • @AskAmyNIrma Me to!! xDD oh god yes, when I could play he clarinet so good.. wow!!

  • this is absolutely wonderful... being such a young player and all...

  • he is absolutely amazing, hands down. but there is no emotion in his face when he plays... i hear it in his music, but i don't see it.

  • @justgarrettlove I prefer musicians put the emotions into their instruments through their hands or voices, not their face. Do faces make a musician?

  • haha so handsome. great clarinet player im jealous

  • chicken

  • Monkey

  • applebees

  • fruitcake

  • @kidofdemise

    jealous!

  • LOL

  • I wish I could play that good and his handsome too :D

  • i love this song... he has a great sound and great control... the only thing is that he performed it to fast but it also should be performed at what ever you feel should be performed at so therefore its one of the best recordings of it...

  • wow he is amazing he went from 5 to age 10 and know he is this age wow hes good

  • Everyone that are braging (maybe spelled that wrong) about how they can play this much better....WE DONT GIVE A FUCKING SHIIIIT!!!!!

I'll rather comment and rate on your video of you playing this better than him, if not, just dont comment....just say "watch my video, I play this better than him" something that much cooler to say!!

  • @MSV94 =

You obviously weren't paying attention in English class. Yes...you misspelled "bragging", but more significant than your spelling is your toilet mouth. How hard is it to say something without having to throw "F" bombs? Must be REAL hard for you. Notice that I haven't had to do so and prove to everyone who reads this that I have the character of a 5 year-old?

Clean up your own act before passing judgment on others, loser!

  • @tigerlilly66 ok xD

  • absolutely fantastic.well done

  • you're just jealous

  • Haha. When was the last time the Queen asked u to play for her,,seeing as you're better than him? Prove that you can play better and upload a video of you doing it.

It is so obvious that you're jealous that you're not in the same position as him.

  • you know what the funny thing is Juan?... Nobody gives two shits!

  • he looks so comfortable. he is amazing im jealous

  • how much do you think a clarinet like that would go for

  • definatly way way way to fast. doesnt add to the romance on the peice nearly enough. i am about to play this peice with my school orchestra and i am hoping it sounds better then this, sorry to say. lovely playing never the less, and a beautiful peice of music

  • Great tone and technique, but I agree - far too fast. Not Adagio at all.

  • wayyy to fast.. andrew marriner plays it soooo much better

  • Stupendo, ma il Sib e il Do in alto sono calanti uff

  • Very good playing!

  • Such musical playing!!!

Technique and expression combine to make this young person a force to be reckoned with in the music world!!!

  • merci

  • Magnifico,ya era un prodigio de pequeño

  • very nice..

  • nice indeed very musical, very good technique, very good sound, nice circular respiration watch 4:05 thats the only one I saw

  • esta buenaso me encanta tu sonido...

  • what type of clarinet is that it seems longer than most Bb clarinets that I've seen. is that an Ab clarinet? (lol I'm a Trumpet player I don't know these things)

  • It's a basset clarinet. If you look at the other comments it's explained.

  • food for the soul... I love this concerto.

  • you said it my friend!!!!!!

  • wow what talent...

  • did no one else notice how he is able to breathe through his nose while continuing to play? Never seen this before! Look for it carefully and you'll see his cheeks puff out and his nostrils flare. Amazing breath control.

  • i know only two people that can actually do it right like that... him and my band director...

  • It's called circular breathing and there are many talented musicians who can do that.

  • i can but i play french horn..my band director calls it circular breathing i believe

  • im gonna get my band teacher for us to play this piece and for me to be the soloist on a "borrowed" A clarinetbasset clarinet

  • how much do u think that barrel is worth

  • Comment removed

  • He is very famous clarinetist, i think he has already become Mega Star!!

    Thank's for posting.

  • i saw him at midwest band confrence this year he was sooooo good you have no idea

  • i think that the barrel makes it easier to blow through because of the wide bore

  • you are stupit from spain

  • WHO is "stupit"? I guess you must be since you can't even spell the word correctly...stupid !

  • ye he is....normal temp=40-42...in a 3/4 time...counting the measures in sixes would then put you at an eigth note at 80-84 beat...

  • he's playing it pretty fast..

  • what a strange barrel?

  • He's playing a basset horn, lower than a normal clarinet, which is what the piece is written for, and this is how it was originally intended to sound. I don't like his interpretation as much as Marriner's, but I think it's still good to hear it being played on that instrument.

  • Basset horn has an angle right? But this is bigger though.

I thought Mozart's Basset horn version was in Bflat? Not A? This is A though.

  • I dunno, but it's playing notes lower than I can hit on my A Clarinet.

  • It's a basset clarinet XD I checked them out, not all has the angle thing.

  • Basset Horn and Basset Clarinets are two different instruments. Basset horn does have an angle. A basset clarinet is simply a soprano clarinet that extends down a minor third to c instead of e. Mozart wrote the piece for his friend Anton Stadler, who pretty much invented the basset clarinet because he was fascinated by the lower register.

  • Comment removed

  • I spent all of this semester writing a research paper over this song. Mozart wrote this piece for a basset clarinet: a soprano clarinet that extended down to c. I am 100% sure about this.

  • @icemansgirl05 I back this chap up on this one. Mozart's friend Stadler possessed a Basset Clarinet and Mozart wrote this concerto specifically for him :)

  • @InsaneSparrow no. He's playing a basset Clarinet. Same pitch as a regular A clarinet just extended to reach low C

  • to tell you the truth I'd say give any clarinet student such a nice horn, a beautiful orchestral background, and one of the best halls concerning acoustics and they will sound as good as Bliss

  • mmm... I don't think so! Clarinets don't play themselves, and specially not Mozart buddy.

  • wow, funky barrel

    backun on steroids?

  • I think its one of those GAO's barrels.

  • I think its one of those GAOs barrels.

  • how is that adagio. more andante

  • This is nothing special just watch Andrew Marriner playing it billion times better.

  • I completely agree. Maybe this new prodigy, Michal Han-Kim, will grow up like Bliss - but with an actual artistic approach to his playing, not just a marketing campaign. Haha.

  • Very true. It seems Bliss has the curse of the child prodigy...In a few years from now he'll be teaching clarinet in a school somewhere.

  • Lol, JulianBliss.

  • He seems to love taking this concerto at a faster tempo. Although I admit, he has amazing talent, this movement should be played much slower. Also, in Mvt. 3, I've never heard anyone but him and Sabine (go figure) take it that fast. I think he tries too hard in technique that he forgets musicality. Or maybe he's just young.

I have to say, though, hearing some of those phrases go lower instead of higher is pretty neat. ^.^ And what he did with the cadenza was pretty cool, too. Different.

  • I love when this piece is played very, very slow, always when I hear recordings it feels too fast, I think the beauty of the movement should be through the expression. I'm not fond of his phrasing, but he does pull it off. Afterall Mozart Clarinet concerto is the HARDEST THING TO PLAY for clarinet. No question. Phrasing and style.

  • after bashing the poor guy, take into consideration that he's only like 17

  • Agreed. Good control, but the tone quality was not impressive. The top C is very weak.

  • Good to see this performed on the extended clarinet, but has intonation been sacrificed for historical accuracy? It gets progressively worse towards the top end - top C is painfully flat (e.g. 00:18 and02:06). Is the reed too soft, was he not fully familiar with this particular instrument, or is this an inevitable trade-off for the extended range?

  • @evachri No Martin Frost pulls off the Basset Clarinet perfectly
