Iowa is a state with 68% approval of George W Bush whereas nationally Bush has about 32% approval. Thus on the onset, Iowa is not a friendly state to Ron Paul. Still, Ron Paul was within 3% reach of 3rd place, and among independents in Iowa, he won. There are a lot more independents in New Hampshire.
Results are surprising, Iowa has large agro business that is subsidized by the U.S. taxpayers. Dr. Paul is against subsidies and NAFTA. At this moment the cost of corn has plummeted as tariffs are lifted by NAFTA and U.S. corn is shipped south. Mexican farmers livelihood are whithering away. Mexicans who's lives are impacted by the American taxpayer subsidizing large corporations, hurting both Mexicans and Americans. Here comes another wave of poor Mexicans. Dr. Paul did great.
Good question, and the complete answer is quite long and not all negative. One of the things RP supporters should take from this first contest, is that getting Dr. Paul nominated is not going to be easy. They are going to have to work harder and smarter. One step in working smarter is to follow RP's example and use some class when responding to the naysayers. Also, learn as much about Dr. Paul as possible so their responses reflect his positions.
It's a good question. Dr Paul will continue to gain support throughout the election in my opinion. Once potential voters realize he is the only true anti-war candidate the shift will be incredible.
Tonight, in NH, the audience was not allowed to applaud, but just couldn't help it when Ron Paul spoke. Don't believe the hype. (media) Ron Paul will be the next president of the US.
10% in a state RP hardly campaigned is pretty damn good. I believe he was there even less than Ghoul. He's been getting more coverage lately because of his success despite MSM's hate for him. A few % pts behind 3rd is not bad considering it's IA. IA is an overly democratic state full of corn growers that expect farm subsidies & Jesus to be uttered every other word by their chosen candidate. Most of IA still didn't even know who RP was before the caucus. IA is easily swayed 4 the wrong reasons.
That's Christian Dogma for ya -- they'll try and hijack the election with a clever concoction of Jesus & the mainstream media. Those 56 books are the Achilles Heel of America -- churches have been in America since 1776...so Americans don't know anything else -- they've never studied the devices used to convert non-Catholics back in the old world! The world wasn't flat either...wake up!
The R[evol]ution has just begun my friend. They were polling him at 5% and he got 10% and thats his weakest state. Keep in mind most people don't even know who Ron Paul is yet.
Iowa voters seem to favor candidates with a strong religious persona. I think this why Huckabee was able to dominate. Ron Paul is a strong Christian, but he does not want to be imposing with his faith. Other states do not put as much emphasis on the religious appearance of the candidate, although they do evaluate his ethics.
New Hampshire is a much more independent state, so Ron Paul should rank higher there. Also, I know someone who went up to New Hampshire recently, and he said there were more signs for Ron Paul than any other candidate! So, needless to say, I'm excited for Tuesday. Go Ron Paul!!!!!!
honestly, the only way ron can win...the front runners have to duke it out between themselves with negative ads, and they will. Then somebody, (another republican candidate) has to try to go negative on Ron. when that happens... point, set, match. Prez Paul will follow shortly.
ron paul is not going to win. every one knew rudy was going to be 6th in iowa he did not campaign there. just because your twice as enthusiastic about ron paul does not mean you get twice the vote. 5th place is not good.
But Duncan Hunter and Thompson will drop out. Giuliani could be in trouble with his reputation. So that will leave four. Now more people will get to know Ron Paul. Half the Republicans I talk to never heard of him - so stay tuned.
no every one knows rudy is waiting in the big states. you know really i dont care who the republican candidate is. i support obama over all other candidates, id like mccain to win the primarys which is unlikley, but ron paul has no shot. he does not have the votes. he has a small group of voters who worship him and they give a ton of money but he has no shot. its gonna be rudy, mccain, or huck. (romneys out he spent like 285 a vote in iowa and huck spent 35 and huck came out of no where)
5th place isnt the point, 10% is! which is excellent considering he doesn't get half the coverage the other candidates do from the mainstream...and ur talking about a small group donating a ton of money? buddy, from the $20 million raised last quarter the average donation was about $90, you do the math
10% is not a lot when 4 other guys have more than 10%. 10% is nothing even if your a no name, seeing as a no name got like 35% of the vote. 10% does can not get you elected. to do that you have to get the majority of the votes.

well i agree with voting with your conscience, its just 10% is not good enough and you guys have to stop preteding it is. my problem is you guys are always talking about how you are going to win and then point to some online poll that shows ron paul with some ridiculus lead, and now your trying to say 5th place is good. but yes vote ron paul your not going to win but someone might adopt some (key word some) of his ideas, in order to get your vote. thats whats so great about democracy.
sam you're talking about the IOWA caucus, do you know how much bill clinton got when his campaign started?: 2%! Your pessimism about the Ron Paul campaign might have some reason to it a couple of months ago, but after all the money raised and his soaring in the polls, are u kidding me?! in a truly democratic process, do you really think he has NO chance whatsoever? maybe because of other elements of sleazy politics, interest groups, lobbying, then we might say he has no chance
well its not impossible (ron paul be elected republican candidate or president for that matter), what is impossible is to know exactly who a country of 300 million people are going to vote for before they vote. but using all avaible data their is nothing that shows ron paul has a chance of winning. i cant claim to know all about the cliton run in 1992 i was an infant, but im gonna guess that he had good numbers in other states with bigger populations than iowa.
Ron's 5th place still earned him 2 delegates (to Julie-Annie's 0)
Ron's 5th place finish was within 3% of McCain and Thompson.
It is a long, tough, row to hoe, but we have traction. Our efforts are yeilding results - not enough results yet, but motion in the proper direction. More phone calls, more money, more effort. Dr. Paul has told us what he needs.
you got a bunch of uninformed young retards who got out the last minute to vote because the democrats spent millions and millions practically escorting them from beginning to end, and you had a particularly religious group even among evangelicals for mike huckabee, and an irrational group of old women that voted for for mike huckabee also.. all in all, it was hard.
10% is great for Internet mainstream hopeful, I am actually impressed he polled 10% in Iowa,

First, Ron Paul was within a couple of percentage points from the 3rd-placer. Second, he did no campaigning in Iowa at all. Third, Iowa is wrong about the candidate about 75% of the time.
i wouls like to say to anyone from ron pauls group....get your you tube commericials on the tv.....they are better than the ones that i have seen.....i get the iowa channels on my tv...........pick some from you tube and you stand a much better chance to get your message out to the older and people with out the net.......lets win this america
Well Ron Paul is trying to do alot very fast which is very destructive to the current establishment and the way things are run in America; which most likely means he won't secure a spot in the white house or a nomination as a republican candidate. That being said, you know he won't run as an indepent if he doesn't get the nomination. His road to the white house won't last for long.
Of course Dr. Paul will do better in NH than he did in Iowa. And "Live Free or Die" isn't just a libertarian license plate slogan- it is our heritage. It is in our blood. It is the way every state in this union should STILL be living.
Yep, at least in the lower third part of NH from Keene across to the shore. Occasionally a McThief takes them in my town and replaces them with another candidate's signs, but theirs get plowed under the snow and RP signs end up on top again. :)
Same thing is happening here in Atlanta Georgia. Thiefs are stealing our Ron Paul magnetic signs from our vehicles. I suppose these are those folks who love the idea of being taxed to death and sending our young boys and girls halfway around the globe to kill or be killed in unjust wars?
In any event, it took 13% of the Colonists to get the ball rolling in the first American Revolution.
There is an old adage..."Never pick a fight with someone who orders ink by the barrel"
My point is that the media controls the heart and minds of many Americans. If they started saying tomorrow that Dr. Paul is a front runner and gave him massive positive media attention like they do to some of the other candidates. I have no doubt he would win the presidency.
"Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper."-Thomas Jefferson
RP carries a fairly popular message in NH. Traditionally the 'live free or die state' has a more liberty oriented bend to its politics. When RP beat the pundits in Iowa buy 3 to 7% its is a good thing. I think maybe 20 23% in New Hampshire and he gains momentum and coverage. A victory of 10 20% of the national convention delegates gives him a say on the paltform at a minimum. Not as good as the nomination but still a happenin thing. We can only get stronger from there.
I would say that is an amazing feat for any candidate who has been blacked out by the media. I was in Iowa and especially the elderly, have no idea who he is. Many of which don't want to talk to young voters and talk politics. The media has successfully harnessed the major demographic in the caucus process to be closed minded about the candidates. Everything they wanted after the vote was in regard to Paul's policies that "their" candidate does not stand for. Get the word out to the elderly!
Beating Guilani is and recieving 10% dispite an attempt to shut him out vs Mc Cain's 13%, is significant. Iowa polls showed him at 1 or 2%. The polls are wrong. No time to go into it. I do not see these results as disappointing, but in fact encouraging.
It says that Ron Paul is not a theocratic leader like Huckabee and Romney and this is why they did well in Iowa ... a soft theocratic state. Theocracy leads to fascism
There's no doubt in my mind that Ron Paul will do better in New Hampshire - I think he will shock folks. Going from 0% in all 50 states (as campaign manager Lew Moore stated on the RP official site), to 10% is huge!
I agree! When this whole deal started we were all making signs that said "Google Ron Paul" or "Who's Ron Paul?". Now we hold signs that say "Ron Paul 2008". People know through all the ground work laid and 10% is huge in corn country!! Go Ron Paul!!
Well if Iowa was educated about Ron 's Policies he would have done better. Unfortunatley the Media doesnt give him coverage the way they do for the oter candidates.

My point is that the media controls the heart and minds of many Americans. If they started saying tomorrow that Dr. Paul is a front runner and gave him massive positive media attention like they do to some of the other candidates. I have no doubt he would win the presidency.

RON PAUL 2008 TO SAVE OUR REPUBLIC!!!

The lesson is, without much campaigning or presence, excluded from FOX, he gets a respectable showing as others drop from the race.
A fight is in rounds. This isn't even round 1.

He'll do better in New Hampshire because there are a lot fewer folks on ethanol welfare.

Go Ron Paul!
