  • What is your take on the Director's Cut version of this album? Is it better than the original?

  • @Leinsatiableone Hi, its virtually the same except that The Directors Cut has a track called 'Kevin Rowlands 13th Time as the opening track instead of/as well as 'The Occasional Flicker'. Kevin had said in later years that they omitted this track at the last minute before release because he wasn't hppy with the drums in the middle or something like that. They sound great to me!!!

  • The sheer beauty of this song, strengthens my soul and lifts my heart. Thank you Kevin. The story of my Dad (Irish) and Mum (Welsh) and the strength they got from their respective families and what they imparted to me and my brothers and sister are summed up in this song. To quote the man himself, "If i need strength to take bad on, I just look back to where I came from."

  • the fact that it crashed commercially is a mystery

    hindsight in 20/20

    Think about the year 1985

  • The best album ever and this song is the best

  • One of the most underated L.P.s ever...

  • god i love this song

  • this album got slated when it came out by all those so called muso journalists (that know fuck all) who now call it a classic...it was brilliant then and its even better now....

  • truly a masterpiece of an album. can't imagine how they felt when it didn't break through

  • without doubt their best album .........a masterpiece

  • its their best album and one of the best songs they have recorded.

P.S i am not an old fart stuck in the 70`s 80`s i just think this was pretty special.

  • @barneybostin spot on mate, well put - their music is timeless, still sounds sharp and original 25-30 years on. Music as good as this is never forgotten.

  • All those hours and hours listening to this album when i was just 17......mesmerised by the sheer brilliance of it, Don't stand me down is just a epic album from start to finish, the fact that it crashed commercially is a mystery - now at least it's getting the recognition it deserved.
