  • great vid mine works awsome now we will see for how long thanks for showing this

  • DUDE! You are awesome! You nailed my problem on the head. I checked the fuse and sure enough, it was open. I purchased a new fuse online, installed it, resoldered the terminals you mention in the video and... VOILE! After adjusting the convergence in Settings, the TV worked like new. Total cost, not including extra fuses, was about $4.00. Saved me about $1400.00 since I would probably have bought a new flat panel HDTV rather than have this relic repaired. Thanks again, you're awesome!

  • i have a small toshba tv its old and for some reason theres a really loud high frequency noise that gives me a headache how d i fix?

  • @sigmapsicharlie @nadikasam did any of you find the issue?

  • HELLO ALL!!!! I have a 55" RCA Thomson Consumer Electronics INC projection HDTV. Model #P61310 Serial #125630092 Chassis # DTV307GC. It won't power on. Before it happened it would power off by itself then eventually power up. Now it tries to power up but never gets there; you can actually here it trying to power up and green light blinks 3 times. I think it's a power supply problem but I could be wrong. I don't want to get rid of the tv, it has a great pic.

  • i also followed the video great help thanks but now tv wont power up i was listening to music on it for awhile even with the convergence being bad and it would shot off after about a hour so i stopped listening to music until i followed your repair steps but now tv will not power on any suggestions thanx Ken

  • got the fuse fixed the solder points all good to go on meter but tv wont power up any suggestions . . . .,

  • Hey I did all this and mine starting working but after a couple days it happened again. Any suggestions?

  • I have one of these TV's and the picture doesn't come on, but the power light does go on and off three or so times, while it makes a high pitched sound. I checked the fuses and they are all good (continuity) and I resoldered the flyback transformer, still no go. I think the flyback is bad, do you think I need to replace it? Anyone feel free to help me out.

  • @sigmapsicharlie - I'm having the same problem with our TV - were you able to find a solution? Thanks!

  • @nadikasam i'm going to try and replace the flyback and see if that works. I haven't had the money to get a new one yet so i will let you know probably next week sometime once i have a result.

  • Do you still have your picture form your tv I messed up and I'll remember were the orange and green wire goals when I replace the fuse

  • @dundub27 Check the front of the board, there should be a two prong spot there for it.

  • how do you de energize the whole tv so you do not get shocked?

  • RCA 1994 model..PTK169PGB 60" Rear Projection TV.....Have sound but no pic...any suggestions?

    NE Alabama

  • TV is back up and running thanks!

  • What is the model number on that board that you where working on? i had a cap go on it that blew a hole in it, trying to buy the board

  • Hi - I just wanted to thank you for putting this video out there!!!!! I'm a 49 year old woman with NO experience at fixing things like this, but, with your help - I actually fixed my TV!!!!!!!!!!! I was terrified, but, between you being kind enough to put this video out there and another person posting one about soldering, I got up the nerve to try it - I was already out a tv, right? I also had the green blinking lights, but opened it up again, checked everything and then it worked!!

  • In attempting to take apart the back to fix the fuse, the remote control eye sensor board came loose. Any idea where it's supposed to go?

  • for the green light blinking 3 times problem on a rca complaint website stated taking off the back then using blow dryer on hot setting gets rid of the dust, works.

  • can you possbily send me a link to the fuse you bought off of ebay a.s.a.p ?

    THANKS,

    Patrick

  • @squishydale i got the same tv colors are werid and little blurry but the guy who had was moving it and tapped the side and picture isnt good shows a lot of red i think maybe he messed up the adjustments in side for the colors wat do u think

  • just got my FREE 52" RCA working after taking out the flyback board, inspecting if for a bit and found a blown solder point. resoldered that and now it works fine:D

  • hey man my got a free Mitsubishi 55 inch tv for free it has a problem though when i got it some dumb ass pulled 4 of the wires a loose and what the tv is doing its staying on for3 seconds and cutting off .. when i remove the back of the TV and keep clicking the power button i see one projection come on and all the other two dont come on do you think the projectors are bad?

  • Sweet DYI vid. It worked for me. As for the three blinking lights, I Ihad the same issue at first. I realized that I had not pushed in the black plastic tray all the way while I was testing it. Once that was done, it did have a little bit of flickering and then as wall good. Thanks Squish!

  • Hey hows it going Dale, just to be clear if i buy and replace the fuse and re soldier all the joints on circuit board my problem should go away? thanks

  • Great Job!!! Subbed you and added to my favorites. Thanks for sharing.Tec

  • i have a rca rear projection tv #p52923 prob. about 12 years old i bought it new it just went off on its own tried unpluging it for 20 mins. no luck any ideas? please help thank you

  • hey i have a RCA 52inch just like that one the model is D5W26 and it's out of focus would you know what that problam may be? hope you can help me, also i have another one that has 3 green blinking lights and wont turn on what might that problam be hope i here back from you.

  • Where can I find the replacement fuses? Is there a part number?

  • do you need to discharge the flyback before performing this type of repair?

  • i've never soldered before is this worth me trying or should i let someone more experienced do it? you didnt show how you got the old fuse off so im kinda in the dark there also

  • This work then it blew out

  • This work thanks alot

  • thank you :) our tv is now fixed

  • I was wondering if you could help me with the same rca tv. When we turn it on the power button blinkes three times and makes a whinning noise and doesn't turn on. What do you think might be wrong with it? Is it trash? Thanks in advance.

    Vikki

  • hello i was wondering if you could help i got a rear proyection tv that i turn on works for a while then switches of by it self do you have any idea what the problem if you do please let me know thank you

  • Yo, Dale My name is MORALLAKI check it..... U ARE A GENIUS!!!! THANX BUD!

  • does anyone know what the solder joints are

  • i have a sony 48" projection tv in my room i just got and the picture looks good like the blue and the green are inline but the red is off some.. on the left of the screen theres a red shaddow below everything and on the right of the screen the red curves down like to the corner of the screen, i tried adjusting the lences and everyone says to get new convergences but do you think that is the problem? only the red is messed up is there an easier fix for my problem?

  • I followed all instructions. Now the TV won't come on at all. I made sure that all of the cables were connected properly, I was off by one... made the adjustment and still no power to the TV. Can you help?

  • I followed all instructions. Now the TV won't come on at all. I made sure that all of the cables were connected properly, I was off by one... made the adjustment and still no power to the TV. Can you help?

  • I took everything apart and determined that the same fuse is bad. My problem is that I cannot get the convergence circuit board out of the black plastic tray that it sits in. I see that there are black retainer clips on the sides that you press in, I release these but the board still does not want to come out. Can anyone advise how to get this out? Great vid squishy THANKS!

  • @cozmo1967 2 small clips in the middle.

  • @Miketar2424 - I read up on the problem at a couple of different locations, but I think originally it was a post at fixya.com that put me on the right track.

@MrBigjoe8 - when the entire picture gets blurry or has a particular tint, it could be one of the lamps that needs to be replaced. I'm not sure about his tv, but other tv's use a (dangerous and toxic) fluid to cool the 3 color tubes. When the fluid gets bad, it goes cloudy and sometimes leaks onto the components damaging them.

  • @squishydale cuold it be possible that both the convergence and lens went at the same time. tv was great before the convergence issue. was wondering if it has anything to do with the red wire i took out from the front of tv. talking about the bare ended wire.(not the focus block wire). there were 2.

  • Dude ur the bomb! lol

  • Where did you find out about the solder problem causing the blown fuse?

  • does this work for every tv i tried it an blew a breakerin my nhouse

  • ok, so i fixed all fuses and resoldered.tv is back on but the red is blurry and bright. when i converge, the red is fatter than the green . also it doesnt stay, after about 10-15 min the red is not aligned anymore. converge again with same results. blues and greens are fine while watching tv, but the reds are off.

  • do these tvs use the lamps???? if so what are signs of the lamp being no good anymore? my tv turns on fine, plays great for about a half hour then screen goes black! but theres still audio!!! anyone PLEASE HELP!!! anything will be helpful please send a message asap. Thank You.

  • This video saved me atleast $200 .. loved ur step by step video . $5 fuse on ebay $5 sodder gun $2 sodder less then 1hr from 1st screw out till last screw in . Now wish ud do a video how to clean the inside of screen i got cobb webbs . grrr !

  • Dale,

We really appreciate the video, just wish this was the problem we were having. We went to turn on the tv and the power light turned on blinked three times and shut off. Never made any noise. Tried again and same issue. RCA does not seem to be able to provide any help with the issue without sending someone who will charge 100.00 before they even look at it. We have done a ton of research online and there are many people indicating bad resistors. Is there a way to test the resistors?

  • Thank you sooooo much for posting this video, my husband and I were able to fix our TV using your instructions. We are so excited to have our TV back, you saved us a lot of money. I just can't thank you enough!

  • @sterlingsilva79 , did you just do what he did in the video, or was there any more steps, like do i just need what he had in the video or do i need more things, thanks in advance.

  • I love radioshack solder because it works so well, and it cools really nice and shiny, but on some jobs I have a dull type of solder to keep the original look.

  • i have the same lokiing tv my model num is hd52w59 dose it matter im going to attemp to fix mine

  • My rca f36650 tv wont turn on at all it was working finw the day before , The next day i tried turning it on it made the noise like it was turning on then nothing, after a while it made some screeching noise and now it just wont turn on .. Can u help please

  • yeah, I had someone point that out a while ago. It is in fact 400mA, I said it wrong in the video.

I found mine on ebay looking for FL231...apparently this is a very common problem.

  • Comment removed

  • @squishydale nice job thanks, now i can fix my 56" RCA I got for $40.00. Thanks again. Oh and by the way a flyback is a transformer that takes the horizontal output and amplifies it to the high voltage required to operate the crt (or screen). I am not real familiar with projection TV's only standard models. So always be careful around it cause a standard TV flyback produces approximately 26,000 volts.

    mj

  • You indicate 1400MA Fuse....TV repair kits.com indicates that replacement fuse for FL231 used in the RCA ITC222 and ATC221 chassis 400ma 125V........which is the correct fuse...any help appreciated Thanks

  • By the way, if you cannot get the convergence option on the menu bar, it is precisely because you are having this issue. You need to replace the fuse (while also re-soldering the other parts as instructed). I purchased a full repair kid (all 3 fuses and a fourth additional part that was unnecessary) for $11 (including shipping) on ebay. Just search the part number.

  • That was perfect. Just finished and it took me about 45 minutes once I figured out what I was doing. Thanks again, saved a ton and we're back up and running.

  • Thank you! Thank you! This, combined with the parts and instructions that we got from tvrepairkits (next time we know to go on eBay and get the part for $3) :-) , made it possible for my husband, our 12 yr old and myself to be able to completely FIX our TV!!! We were soo excited!! You showed us exactly how to do what we needed to do!! Thank you for saving us a LOT of money!

  • @JenSclater Thank you for the info Jen! I got your reply this morning but have already ordered the fuse from ebay. I have access to soldering equip and the like from work so hopefully squishy's video will help me get this done.

If I fail, then perhaps I'll check out the kit you mentioned. Thanks so much again! :)

  • Hi Dale, I have same problem as you had in this video. (same tv)

I dont know if you check this site anymore but I have a question. I could have swore I was able to get to a menu screen to adjust convergence. However, Im not seeing such a menu. Is it because I need to fix it first? (such as you did)

  • @kirkfanbigtime

I could not find this on mine as well and called RCA who told me that if you cannot see the menu choice, then it is indeed the convergence fuse. Go on tvrepairkits with the beginning and end to make it a web address, and get the kit. It comes with all of the instructions and it made it possible for us to fix our today!! We couldn't believe it!! After it was fixed, the convergence option was there!! Good luck!

  • I have a 1995 RCA P46732BA Chass # PTK169PGA and it will not power on at all. Can you assist me in trying to figure out the problem. I have been told the bulb is blown but I thought the TV would still power on. Please help Thank

  • having trouble finding 1400milliamp fuse...need help

  • Hi, the cooling fan for the lamp in my 52" RCA Scenium is buzzing real bad. After I shut off the tv it buzzes for about 1 or 2 minutes more until the lamp is cooled down. The buzzing is very bad so I am pretty sure it is the fan. Can someone show me how to fix the fan? Thanks

  • Thanks to you and your video we were able to fix our tv for $4.00. Geek Squad wanted to charge us $600 to do it. They told me I couldnt replace the fuse, that we need all new boards. We did exactly what you did in your video and our tv now works!!! Thank you so much for posting this video!!!

  • now was your tv hdtv?

  • @joelneff71 mine was. And this video was a blessing! I ordered 2 of the fuses because I was afraid I'd screw up lol, and also because the shipping was the same. Needless to say, squishydale's vid walked me right through this without a glitch so I simply taped the extra fuse inside the the TV. (just in case) ;)

  • Used this video to fix a TV exactly like this. This video is fantastic. Even taking lots of pitchers as recommended prior to following the reaming steps saved me grief in resembling.

I would still like to get a free service manual if any one has one for this TV.

  • Thanks man, I found the fuse on ebay and fixed it relatively easily. A repairman offered to fix it for around $400.

  • You are the freakin man. My big screen has been down for over a year and a half. Just in time for football season. Thanks again. YOUR THE MAN....GO RAIDERS!!!!

  • Hey man thankyou very much,I did it just as you said, and it worked.

  • i did the above, didn't help, just for kicks, since i had my voltmeter out i checked a few resistors, it appears two of them just to the left of the fuses may be bad, (one bigger and one smaller) my fuses tested good- would these two resistors do it?

  • You're fantastic! I followed your instructional video and fixed my T.V. After viewing several videos on this site yours was the only one that pictured step by step instructions on what to do to fix it. We have two of these models and now Thanks to you we can fix and keep them. You're amazing! Thank You!

  • step 1: got 80 screws out. gotta go get a can of air and get rid of the dust so I can see.

    later

  • Got the same problem going out to buy what you have used hope it works !!!!

  • Squishy, Thanks for the great video! I had an RCA 52" given to me with the exact same problem. Your video walked me right through the repair! I really appreciate you taking the time to post this video, Thanks for the help!

  • @squisydale Hey i have an RCA tv too. the problem i have is it started off as the picture just going black. teh tv is on adn i hear the sound but the screen goes blank. i hit the back of it and it turns back on. but now the screen is blank no matter what. im not sure if its teh wireing or what. any sugestions?

  • my tv shows only half of of the picture how do i fix it

  • why dooes this happen to the tv?

  • Just wanted to thank you for posting this video, I bought 2 fuses just in case, solder all the points as you explained, replaced the fuse and it worked. however I have a question: when you watch content at 1080i does that lead the TV to have the convergence problem ?

  • hi, i got a question for ya...my tv had a picture but it was dark... now i go to turn it on and it just make noise on the left side where i thing most of the boards are.. but its only for a min and then stops... but it doesn't have any picture now.. so i took the bulb out and the glass between the bulb and the color disk is cracked too. is it worth fixing? thank you for your time Jen ;-(

  • @runninwolf586

color wheel w/ bulb sounds like a dlp TV, which is completely different from what I fixed here...so I don't feel necessarily able to comment on your problem.

  • @squishydale

I was wondering if you could help me with the same rca tv. When we turn it on the power button blinkes three times and makes a whinning noise and doesn't turn on. What do you think might be wrong with it? Is it trash? Thanks in advance.

    Vikki

  • i have a problem mine blinks tries to power 3 times with no succes sometimes it does and the screen then looks fuzzyy anyone know why

  • @EdgarLopez

3 blinks is the TV's power-on tests... something is not passing the test, so the tv doesn't turn on for safety purposes (good for not burning your house down)

It could be one of about a hundred problems

  • @squishydale

Mine blinks 3 times too. I sat there and tried for 3 hours to turn it on and it turned on. It works fine once it turns on, but I don't shut it off just to avoid the 3 hour process. What could that problem be??? Thanks.

  • @squishydale I have this same problem. My model is D52W20 with the ITC222 Chassis (not ITC222A). I finally managed to get mine going only once and the flyback transformer is making lots of noise, the screen flickers and is wavy when the screen stays on. I know the board needs to be replaced because there are 3 caps that are bulged and the flyback doesn't seem to work properly either. My problem is I can't find a replacement deflection board # PSB850. Do you know where I can get one?

  • @squishydale What I mean by same problem is the famous 3 blinking lights. I have tried searching ebay and there is nothing there.

  • i have the same tv but its doing a chirping sound. can u help?

  • Dude You Fucking ROCK!!!! right on the money, I had the same issue so I jumped the fuse to make sure it work . I went ahead and ordered the fuse. It works like a charm.

  • I have a similar problem. The convergence is off, but only when i use 1080i. Could this be the same problem?

  • @italianblondie22 I replaced the middle fuse...and re soldered the flyback points under the circuit board. replaced with leaded solder

  • thnks!!!!! this video was very helpful....I have the same exact t.v. and the other day,

out of the blue...the picture messed up. It was curved down from the top, and curved up from the bottom. the colors were separated, and the picture was 3d. Got the part from ebay . Had my lil brother do the soldering. It worked!!! The picture actually looks better than before.

  • Hey brother, just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to show this do-it-yourself video. Bought the fuse on e-bay like you said, went and got the solder with flux and lead, multi-meter. Fixed all the solder points on the flyback. Saw the points where they were blown. Worked like a charm! You are king....:)

  • This morning I saw your video, I have a tv exactly like that one your working on, as it turns out the exact same thing was wrong with mine, and I did as you did and boom, the tv is working perfectly. Thank you for posting this video.

  • this repair worked great ive done it .... i have the same tv with same problem and i did this repair and it worked very well and my tv works great

  • I have the same tv with the same problem. I'm working on fixing it but I'm having trouble disconnection the ribbon cable that connects to the boards. Got any advice?

  • if my fuses ohm good what can i do?

  • i have a rca 52" #hd52w59 that does the same thing in your video. fuses ohmed good. any thing else i can do? was going to auto convergence on the setup screen but it does not show convergence, just channel setup, preferences, closed caption, and autotuning. any help would be greatly apretiated.

  • I got a question,I have a blown resistor and my convergence is all out of wack now. Is there a special type of resistor for this or can I just match the numbers up and use the same colored one? Thanks for your time.

  • @pos6666666

if it's a bad resistor, you can just match the colors. The colors tell you what the resistance of the resistor is. So you just need to pick another resister of the same value.

  • @squishydale That's what I was thinking, thank you very much, you can't imagine how much money and time you are saving me.Once again great video.

  • Just wanted to say this video rocked man thanks.

  • dude i have a rca 2 and the tv turns ok in a minute it turns of by it self and the front led blinks 5 times is a M50WH92S 52" i check the light bulb and it looks ok can u point me in the right direction plz.

  • Thanks for a great video. I was able to fix my tv following your instructions. Bought fuses on ebay, lead solder at depot. Thankyou !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gonna try it ,I hope it works!

  • I get the 3 green blinks. After 25 tries it finally turns on. I just leave the TV on all the time, but leave it on an input that doesn't have anything on. hahaha.

  • I'm continually floored by the volume of comments I get on this video. Thanks for the kind remarks guys. When I made the video, I really just intended to show some buddies how I bought a $75 TV and fixed it for a good deal.

I bought the fuse on ebay, I think I searched for FL231, you're looking for a 400mA fuse. In theory, any 400mA fuse will work, it's just that unless you get the OEM rca fuse, it will fit back on the board all nice and neat.

  • Great work, Dale. That could just as well been my tv you were working on in this video. I was about to drag this thing out to the street when I found you. I re-soldered the detailed points and replaced the fuse that a local supplier GAVE me and was back in business. THANKS for taking the time to put this together. I found other sites that were willing to sell me info, but how could I have known if that was the fix. Again, thanks for saving me hundreds.

  • Hey squishydale, I have the exact TV and one day out of the blue the TV did what you described with the bow tie effect and all the colors are out of whack. Now according to you all i need to fix this issue is a 5 dollar part (fl231) fuse a volt or multi meter and a soldering iron with lead based solder to fix the problem?

  • where did you guys get your fuse at

  • Haha thats funny we had the same tv manufactured september 2005!!within 2 years the picture was curved in on the sides then about 2 weeks ago we left home with it on (we live right by a minimart)came back with it of and the whole house smelled horrible went to turn it on and it completly blew and was making poping noises and smoking luckily we shut off the breaker and now we have a sanyo 56 inch plasma and the picture is SO much clearer!!the picture was always so blury with it. long time turn on

  • Replace the STK-392-110 convergance chips with new ones. They should be STK-392-150 which is a comon problems with big screens

  • i have a problem with my rear projection tv the blue is off a tiny bit it outliens things you can really see it around bright white things like letters or somthing is it my convergence chips its a mitsubishi ws-65613

  • @joeldude76 it sounds like its your cable not your tv

  • yeah because in video games it doesnt do it

  • i have an rca tv that just stop working the power wont even come on, do you have any advice, please

  • what was wrong with it i know the convgergence but what was it like i think my convergence is off a tiny bit because when theres white letters the blue will outline the letters maby a chip is loose or a bad solder like yours?? please help

  • Great job

  • damn im only 16 i did what the video sed and it worked! thanks alot!

  • Great Video. My friend had this TV and the same problem. We replaced the exact same fuse and resoldered the flyback and everything worked perfectly. Thanks so much.

  • byrtyfvb0o

  • I am so thankful for this. I spent so much on christmas I didnt have the money to fix my 61 in. Tthis video saved me. I tested the fuse and jumped it..and it worked.. Thanks for this video once again..

  • Can someone plese help me, I have the same rca 52 inch tv the same that was in the video. When I turn on my tv the green light blinks 3x and then goes out. Can someone post a video on how to fix this or tell me how to fix this. Thanks

  • sweet im getting a 55" mitsubishi off of craigslist for 300 dollars

  • ya mines didnt last long either. convergence blew out twice. any suggestions. Whats goin on? Do i need a new flyback

  • hey help me just fix the converge problem it workd great 4 2weeks and now i have sound no picture ur kidden me right can someone tell me now what to fix

  • My 52in had bad convergence and finally did not turn on. I opened it and found that fuse fl231(convergence) and fl221 were blown. Also the flyback had blown sodder points. My lil bro soddered the flyback and we put in those two fuses.

    outcome: It turned on !

  • mines did the same thing yours was doing but i kept turning it on and off and now it powers on then power off and the light blinks on and off three times think its the same problem

  • i have done everything you have said. only thing is i have two bad fuses fl231 and fl221 ........fl221 is hard to find im in the process of calling RCA i dont think even they have it in stock!! Anyone know where i can get the fuse?????? anyone need help for the tv leave me a message .......wer are not proffesionals but we have done what this guy has said

  • Hey guys,

I've seen a lot of comments and pm's referring to a common problem where the TV on led blinks for 3 blinks then goes off. You're not going to want to hear this, but I hear that this is a very generic problem. The TV set knows something is not working right, so it powers itself down as to not cause any damage. Problems could range from my fix to a variety of other issues. Sorry that I'm not much help.

    Dale

  • @squishydale

My power button light would also flash 3 times, and it was what was in your video. but it did not flash like that on every power up, sometimes it would power up and have the three pictures.

  • hey acuragsr4 if the button on the tv doesen't work, properly? try to turn it on with the remote by pressing the tv button first and then the power button. not at the same time. and it should work. mine shuts itself off, sometimes. my wife thinks there is a ghost doing that. i hope this helps. rob... and thanks again dale! you are a life saver....

  • hey dale. i want to personally thank you for your video. i did what you said to the letter. and my tv works better than when i first bought it in walmart for $1,100.00 in 2005 and when this happened? i pawned it for $100.00 and when i saw your video? i ordered the fuses from ebay. and when they arrived? i got it out of the pawn shop. and i repaired it just like you said. wow! it works! me and my wife looked at lcd and plasma tv,s and we can't afford 1,500.00 to 2,000 thank you., robert

  • mine tries to turn on 3x but never turns on anybody know wat could be wrong with it???

  • i have the same problem only that now it doesnt turn on.......i have a few questions......how long was your tv disconnected from the socket.........you didnt show disconnecting cables........do you know what fuse blew out if it doesnt turn on

  • You people ROCK! I have this exact t.v. and it's doing the same thing. I was going to sell it CHEAP, but now, I think I'll just fix it! Thanks Alot!

  • Good vid!

FIY, the fuse is a 400mA fuse, not 1400mA :)

You can find the fuse on eBay. Search for item# 220478092023

    @ belric31:

If your BLUE convergence is off, you will need to manually adjust the convergence grid in the SERVICE MENU. This adjustment is almost always required after replacing a blown FL231 fuse.

    TO ACCESS SERVICE MENU:

    -Turn OFF TV

-Hold Menu+ Chan. Down + Vol. Down simultaneously for approx 5-8 sec.

Also, inspect (replacing is recommended) capacitor CL230 + diode DL231

  • my bigscreen rca messed up b4 and had 2 replace sometihng. It was fried. Now its messed up again. When i try 2 turn it on it will try 2 turn on 3 times but just keep tuning off. Can anybody tell me whats wrong?

  • Sounds like a power supply problem or faulty flyback transformer. Inspect the flyback solder points as shown in this vid.

  • Thanks for the Help. Here is a better idea of my problem:

The blue bends up at the bottom & down at the top.

When I try Auto converge. the green cross is larger than the blue. and wont move up or down just side to side.

This problem kept coming and going now it just stays this way.

  • You will need to manually adjust the blue convergence grid in the Service Menu (see post above).

If that fails, you may need to have it realigned by a technician.

  • My tv still has a decent picture, but it has a green hue to it. any idea what it could be?

  • Hey Dude I took and tested the fuses and all three apear to be good . So Will just fixing the flyback work or i'm i in for other problems. only the blue color is out.

  • if only the blue color is out, it doesn't sound like you have the same problem that this fixes. the convergence problem usually involves all 3 colors separating. if you have just one color separating or one not working at all, it looks like you have a problem with just that color...could be a bulb or lens

  • Also, this 56 inch RCA is like a family heir loom to me and my college buddies. Got a lot of sentimental value in the times we have had with it. I only spent $25 bucks to fix this monster. I am having a big screen party this Thursday to celebrate the rebirth of the BIG SCREEN! Thanks again man!

  • DUDE! SQUISHYDALE! The FUSE WORKED!!!!!!! It fixed the convergence problem. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you making this video buddy. I am not a tv repairman and you saved me $400 bucks buddy. If I could buy you a beer, I would! I resoldered that new fuse in (400ma) and rehooked everything up. I am so pumped man, you have no idea!

  • i'm glad it worked for you. remember that the fuse only blows if there's a problem with some of the other circuitry...so if all you did was replace the fuse, then it will probably blow again. hope everything works out for you

  • hey man great video i have the same tv but its not the fuse. i fixed my buddies with his fuse but my tvs fuse is still good. the tv wont let me adjust the convergence the pluses wont move any ideas? thanks

  • i just resoldered all those solder points that connect to the flyback.... so hopefully that is fixed. i used the same solder you bought at Radioshack for 5 bucks. and bought a soldering kit there for 8 bucks. and i bought a 5 pack of the 400ma fuses off of EBAY for 10 bucks (in case the fuse blows again).... and i removed the fuse that was blown. GOD I HOPE THIS WORKS!

  • hey man... great tip... i am gonna try this trick on my tv... was having that Convergence problem... has that fuse blown since u have changed the new one in?.....

  • Yes, the TV is still going strong. I haven't touched it since the fix. The trick is to fix the problem, not the symptom. The fuse blowing is really just a symptom. The fuse blows because there is a problem with the board...which is usually the solder points...but not always. Fix the problem and the fuse shouldn't blow again.

  • Excellent work dude. Won't help me but I appreciate the effort.
