I love special needs cats. They require more love and care, but you get lots more in return. My kitty is named Pincey, and she has no hair. She's a kind little kitty, and pretty spunky too! I have a cat with a rather severe case of that, though I'd never heard the exact name for it. I thought it was "vestibular disease". But my cat is one of those who can't walk or even stand up straight. It's very difficult. She stays in a laundry basket all day, & I have to carry her to the litter box where she has a tough time. But she's content given her condition & I take good care of her.
Looks like he might have just a touch of cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) -- the feline "balance center" disability you mentioned.
If so, he's pretty mild. There are some CH cats that are so floppy they can barely walk on all fours. Others can't walk at all -- they kind of spill or tumble where they need to go. :) But even cats with severe CH seem to have a good quality of life if they can find an understanding owner.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a handicapped cat. How old is Steve? Mine is almost 10 and he seems a lot smaller, I guess he's a runt. Also thanks for telling me what he has, I'm almost certain my cat has the same problems. I love my cat and I can tell you love yours.
