@dowling1981, I think you need to fix your brain... Check it out... I did not say I hated U2... what I SAID IS "I LIKE THE SONG VERY MUCH AND I LOVE U2 TOO! So... read carefully before you reply....
Loving the beautiful Muslim girls @ 3:43 - to think these wonderful people are victims of a concerted campaign of hatred and demonisation by evil Zionists and the mass media that they control that is not dissimilar to the Nazi campaign of demonisation that the Jews suffered up to and during WW2.
I saw them in concert in Madrid in 1987, it was apparent that, at least Bono, has a total John Lennon/Beatles fixation. I moved to San Francisco that fall. They did a surprise rooftop concert in San Francisco around that time. [cough] Beatles [cough]. nothin' wrong with the Beatles, and U2 rocks, but you know...
These Guys are So Good That They are Giving Their Predecessors a run for their Money. Just When you Thought that Only Good Music Came from The 50s, 60s and 70s era only Think again. These Guys have the Chops and the Music That have Drawned the likes from Mick Jagger, Frank Sinatra, Pavorotti, Tony Bennet Lou Reed, BB King Springsteen and so many more. Its not a Coincidence. These Guys gave Rock Music a Face Lift and are a Breath of Fresh Air every New Album they Make. Long Live U2.
First off I would like to say that there are 2 Bands I hold dearly that can hold it on the rooftop. That first Band Would be The Beatles Since they were the 1st to really do that. 2nd is U2. Whenever U2 leaves after they drop an album and tour for it it is very sad. But When they come back with a New Album its like Jesus Christ Came Back to Earth its that Magical.
Hey breda83, for someone who apparently doesn't care for U2 your sure hangin around their videos alot. As far as echo boxes go SO THE F WHAT, everybody uses um, they also use wah, flanger, chorus, overdrive, so whats yer frickin point!
Never will you see the Edge crank out some wild up and down the neck Thrashing such as Steve Vai or Eddy VanHalen, yet you must admit you love his style and the way the sound of his guitar draws you in. I love his use of harmonics.I think it's his trademark.
@0586730O2 I like the guitar in the live versions more as well, but Bono seems to have issues holding pitch. It's very noticeable when he first sings "I was born".
We (The Irish) are a Nation of begrudgers, let's just be happy that the band actually put Ireland on the map. Bono's done way more than any other person for people around the World and actually made changes that, unlike any other musician.
(I think this album is on par with the Joshua Tree,it's thought provoking and their themes are very similar )
@breda83 Preaches to the Irish Government to give more aid to Africa while at the same time dodging tax in Ireland. Preaches about love & peace while his company Elevation Partners have shares in the company that makes night-goggles for the American troops in Iraq, no wonder he was quiet about the illegal Invasion of Iraq. He preaches to people at his concerts about the evils of Capatilism while making money out of them. If he is such a saint why doesn't he give 20 million of his money.
@breda83 1st: Bono is not U2 - he doesn't call all the shots. Larry, Edge and tacit Adam (not to mention McGuinness and a whole host of advisors) would have a say in U2, the business, dodging tax.
2nd: Bono was quiet about 'the illegal' invasion of Iraq? You, being an American tax payer, had 'shares' in that 'illegal' war too - does that make you equally guilty?
3rd: Bono is an avowed Capitalist - openly thanks his audience for making him wealthy! He likes the perks of office and admits it.
@breda83 If you admit HE doesn't personally control corporate U2 tax decisions (but continues to fully pay his independent personal tax [into the millions!] in Ireland, just like me)...that you are as culpable as he is as regards the 'illegal' war in Iraq... and that he has never condemned Capitalism, I won't have much admitting to do, will I? But that one about the 'illegal' war in Iraq kinda places the word 'hypocrite' slap-bang in your corner, don't it.
@breda83 just to add this tosser bono there was a recent poll of the top 50 celebrities in the uk and ireland who donates to charity and he never even made it in the 50 ! says a lot really about ths egoist lol tired of u2 totally now
you have some fucking cheek.Bob geldof basically told maggie the cunt thatcher,to fuck off, when the people of Africa were starving to death. He made an effort to help them,he organised Live aid,he argued with thatcher when she wanted to TAX every CD that was sold.He said to her,and i quote''BUT PRIMEMINISTER,,,,,,,,,PEOPLE ARE DYING''.He spoke up and he deserves credit for that. And by the way,its SIR BOB in case you have forgotten.
I was there =) when I heard the news that they were playing that day I got the train to London, took me like 9 hours and cos me 200 quid but it was worth it, I love this band!!!
I really love them. They are the best, no doubt. After the end of the Beatles, U2 is the band that most touches my heart. They convey a truth unsuspected. I love them.
The guitar rifs of The Edge are just wonderful; not least at 4:13 (does he cut in a little too early?). If only The Edge could be allowed to play more solos... Think U2 with Magnificent is back to the 80´s - that was meant as a very, very positive comment.
thats not edge's style to solo. only if a solo fits in a song. but he's a different kind of guitar hero as they say. he consumes his ego inside of hte band.
@KenfromDublin yea it does as its like teh best song ever, but I think there have been lots of versions of this song on youtube, and BBC were forcing this one taken off for a while at first, (they seemed to have stopped now), plus lots of poeple dont know what good music is X-D
After all the concerts and studio guest appearances around the world, this one performance of 'Magnificient' is still the most beautiful, the most ghostly, the most epic. The way Edge's guitar just floats on the breeze and echoes through the London night makes this a truly legendary performance, one people will keep returning to even in a hundred years from now.
It's because up there, the emotional connection to the crowd was much stronger. There's something about tens of thousands of people all experiencing a one-time event together... I'm sure the energy was raw for both band and crowd. I would just be thrilled to be up there, towering above everyone, next to my instrument... It would be so calming, yet I'd be feeding energy from the crowd at the same time. Which I'm sure is what happened here... Inspiring!!!
i absolutetly love the guitar in this song , the guitar sound at the beginning, the solo... love this song , love this band they were amazing live in germany
I also love this guys, and I'm very happy with the new album though I haven't bought it yet! but I liked the songs that I´ve heard so far and hope to go to their concerts here in Argentina in October 2010! ROCK ON U2!!!
After I've heard the song that was recorded on one of their album (I think it was "no line on the horizon) I realize that they're preforming this song much better live than on the cd.. U2 is really awesome, I love them :)) <3
To Ackase. I agree a few of the new songs sound better live than the record. This and 'Breathe' sound much better live. Look for the Magnificent live recording done on Letterman here on YouTube, much better than the recorded album version.
2k7 not really. Only on TV are they not allowed to embrace marketing for any brand/company. However, chart show and radio 1 is all about band promotion and new music. Apart from that it's U2. come on. Superband offer to play live probably fer fuck all. What are you gonna say??
Something that has always fascinated me about U2 concert footage (that is captured very nicely in this clip) is the look of of absolute joy on the faces of audience members.
I think I noticed it the most in U23D, which really succeeded in showing why their live performances are the greatest in the history of rock, it gave you a real sense of what its like to be there.
And on October 23, 2009, I will be there ... at Sam Boyd Stadium, somewhere on the floor. Achtung Vegas, Baby! :)
That spacey echoy sound of the Edge's guitar in this song live is just surreal (not the initial riff but as he accompanies Bono's singing). It will be an immense sound live in concert.
The new album of U2 has been 1st in 30 country the first week ! They sold more than 650 000 tickets concert in 7 hours the 20th march ... No, U2 is not finish ! U2 is BACK ! Magnificent is an awesome song.
how did this only make #42 in the UK charts - it should have been top 5 at least! get on your boots was only #12! what's happened to Britain's music taste?!? if vertigo or the fly were released today they probably wouldn't make top 20! outrageous when you consider some of the crap on top of the charts at the moment! oasis, coldplay and the killers have underperformed in the charts recently too! really tragic!!!
And just look at what's number one in the chart at the moment... 'Boom Boom Pow' - the worst piece of crap i've ever heard. I can only assume that the top 40 UK chart represents the popularity of singles among 13 year old girls, as perhaps they're the people buying the most records? Hopefully you can see the point i'm trying to make. Either that or UK's gone insane. However, it was good to see NLOTH at number 1 in album chart :D
sounds better live, than the album version. album version sounds muted, instruments sound too quite in the background, it's lacking something, here it sounds more balanced, just my opinion!
Yes, it's so good to see her captured by the rhythm and so happy. Now she's immortal, her kids, perhaps even grandkids must have fun playing it and calling out to her "Mom, you want to see yourself again?"
How is it the same? Many songs sound different that How to dismantle an atomic bomb. This is a really good album in my opinion. Every song is unique. (yes even get on your boots)
I WAS a mega U2-fan - I live in DUBLIN, IRELAND, just 5 miles from where Bono grew up - I used to WORSHIP them (no joke)
BUT they have really let their own IRISH fans down BIG-TIME - they never show their appreciation to the CITY where it all began! Their new album was launched HERE before the rest of the world (I rushed out to get the special Vinyl) - where were they? LONDON giving FREE concerts - likewise in NEW YORK - FREE concerts - Home Opinion is not good lads:(
I agree with espionzfan, these guys will be around for a few years to come, threre will be some great stuff and some mediocure, as with all bands.

best song of the album they can still write classic tunes this is more like the u2of old.Just hope they write more classic tunes like this one.

That spacey echoy sound of the Edge's guitar in this song live is just surreal (not the initial riff but as he accompanies Bono's singing). It will be an immense sound live in concert.

how did this only make #42 in the UK charts - it should have been top 5 at least! get on your boots was only #12! what's happened to Britain's music taste?!? if vertigo or the fly were released today they probably wouldn't make top 20! outrageous when you consider some of the crap on top of the charts at the moment! oasis, coldplay and the killers have underperformed in the charts recently too! really tragic!!!

Yea true! They must be gutted that it didn't get in the top 40. It must be their biggest flop since Fire

The lady on 3:01 looks so happy. Her smile represents my feelings when i listen to this song!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The last two album were awesome and really blew me away.
This one didn't come close.
I want to hear the songs they recorded with Rick Ruben and then threw out for this average album.
They need to take a break from Eno and Danny and go with Chris Thomas for an entire album.
Too much Eno influence on this one.
