GAH! Please stop thrashing your game pieces like they are worthless! I can only imagine little plastic swords and body parts getting all bent out of shape. It really drives me up the wall when you throw your game components around. I'm just curious why you don't treat them better?
@thegreatmerga Maybe because games are meant to be played, and the only real value within those plastic pieces are the meaning we embed in them when we play and have fun. Else they are just molded goo with a production cost of 0.001 cents per piece.
Great review of the game. It's been getting a lot of positive reviews. This whole series of games looks like a lot of fun. My group has beaten Descent to death, maybe we should move to this! "And, well, it's purple." That was hilarious!
I own all 3 but have only played Castle Ravenloft a dozen times or so. CR was heavily weighted against the player unless you are playing with all 4 heroes at once. Common opinion seems to be that Drizzt has stronger heroes and is an easier game (with less punishing encounter cards being a big part of that) - though it will likely still require 4 heroes at once.
Not a must-buy if you already own Ravenloft and enjoy it. Neither was Ashardolon, which was generic as hell.
If you're a Drizzt fan (i.e. you're an emo 14 year old who doesn't read much outside of D&D), then by all means pick this up and go nuts. Otherwise, this is a waste of cash.
@psbauman Yes because most 14 year old emo fans were born in the 70s weren't they. If you can explain what "emo" and AD&D have to do with each other I'll throw you a biscuit.
@psbauman I'm pretty sure most 14 year old haven't heard of him myself. I agree the books aren't great, but the character himself is pretty cool. Let me guess you love Tasslehoff :P
I've been waiting with baited breath for this review, so thanks Tom. My wife and I (new to board gaming) have been playing WoA and have had some really great adventures. As you alluded, one of the strengths of these games is that they so effectively convey a sense of danger as monsters and encounter effects ramp up quickly right from the start. But then you still might end up completing the mission with only a few hit points left. I'll definitely be picking this one up. Thanks again.
Driders (that hybrid creature with the legs of a spider and the upper body of a human) were almost always created from male dark elves, so you could say that it's a HE.
@SPBTooL Get Wrath of Ashardalon unless you really want the Ravenloft (undead) or Drizzt (Underworld) theme. Wrath is more generic than Drizzt with the big baddy being a Dragon under the mountain and it has more variety and a few other things are fixed and/or improved from Ravenloft. If you buy a second get Ravenloft as the two really compliment each other well in terms of components and options. The are all great though so pick the theme you like best and go with that one.
Don't take the time to learn how to pronounce the name of the product, no longer interested in your review. Sorry.

At 10:40 Melody was really having fun with that Flesh Golem. I thought that was hilarious.

02:17 Icing death? Is that chocolate or vanilla. I didn't realize Pastry Chef was such a power class in D&D.

@parkarboy73 I didn't ascribe the AD&D fandom to that demographic... Just the Drizzt fandom. Those books are aweful, sorry.

Sounds like a great addition to the Cooperative D&D Series. The game would be much better with less Drizzt.
Yeah the water elemental was a D&D Minis model first. They recycled a lot of the older sculpts from D&D Minis for the later Heroscape sets.
fiddlerjones84 2 months ago 2
@fiddlerjones84 I agree. I'm not really a fan of the character, so that it's very specific to Drizzt is kind of a turn off for me.

Play as Drizzt? The game is already won.
