@Premnath.. Depression isn't a illness! It's a natural human emotion that tells us when something is wrong. If you try to mask normal human emotion that person will no longer be healthy.
My dear Friends some of you are mad! I have got a desese called Bipolarity, it is provoqued by life, by sociological phenotype it is not genetic doesn't have got anything to do with biological or quimical unbalance. Doctors in the UK who try to treat the hypothyroidism that underlies a lot of "mental" conditions are liable to be run out of business. The establishment's idea of a "good doctor" is one who prescribes a fluoridated pill that makes the patient sicker.
You can't scientifically know if anti-depressants work or not, they're definitely a start for the pursue of the ability to make someone happy without consequences. Now if someone commits suicide even after they're on medication, it's easy to want money in lieu of blaming the drug itself. The brain is a very complicated computer, it is unpredictable and driven by natural selection. You can't give an antidepressant to a person being tortured and expect it to work.
Psychiatry is a pseudoscience! I've said it for years. There are other therapies such as EFT, EmoTrance, and Quantum Touch that are WAY, WAY, WAY more effective without the side effects.

You don't get the simple fact. You can't "cure" something (i.e. "medicine") that doesn't exist. There is no medical science involved in psychiatry whatsoever. None. Not 1%. This is simple, irrefutable fact. To ignore this is to ones own detriment. Psychiatry is no more reputable than the fraud of Scientology.
Modern psychiatry is a fraud. We want to be free of suffering. So, instead of looking into the root of suffering, which is the result of not living in balance with the natural order, we choose to ingest chemicals to ease the pain. Antidepressants put us to sleep so that we do not look at the reality of our being. As long as we live an unbalanced life we shall suffer. Read J. Krishnamurti, Ouspensky, Eckhart Tolle, Gurdjieff.
don't take antidepressants, its pestilence! it might work for only the most extreme of extreme cases but by all means try traditional therapy, support, and life style changes first!!! antidepressants are deleterious poisons, nothing more, nothing less.
Just a side thought: when I was in 5th grade, I started hearing about the concept of "self-esteem". Before that, I just thought of myself as a person and any trouble I had was because of some circumstance that I had to change or pray about, but after that I wondered where the blame lied - even though I figured it was bs. A few years later I realized that really there's no such thing as self-esteem in the way we understand it.

The point of this video is to get people to realize that they aren't going to be "fixed" by going to a doctor who doesn't try to "cure" them. Psychiatry is over-drugging children and putting people on addictive, harmful medications.
Orthomolecular psychiatrists do cure patients however, by giving them large amounts of the nutrients they are deficient in. I spoke about it in an interview I did, and the highlights are on my channel:
"Psychiatry: Stop The Madness - Radio Interview Highlights"
How about people that take blood thinners or other medications that won't treat their illness, but prolong it or make it better for them? I suffered while going from social worker, counselor, and others without improving much. Then I started taking Lamictal. I feel reborn.
I guess I was not clear enough. What I was trying to say is that not all medications that we take can cure, rather, many are here to improve the QUALITY or LENGTH of our lives.
Same can be said with some medications for mental illness. My mood used to change instantly from feeling high, to 7 feet under. The medication I'm taking, Lamictal, is helping me and my family have normal lives. Of course, taking too many medications will make a mentally ill patient sicker. Too much of anything is bad.
I don't mean to be insensitive to your ailment but did you try anything before the doctor or pill route? Our culture has driven us away from our own personal power. The mind body connection is immensely strong. Meditation brings that into clarity. Cleansing your diet of all the garbage is huge too. We have a lot to do with our own sickness, we just don't stop and look at that reality.
Yes, I tried lots of alternative treatments including changing my diet in numerous ways. I have tried vitamin supplements, herbs, biofeedback, lots of therapy, and several visits to a neurologist. All this From the age of 7 without feeling any better. My parents don't believe in medication and therefore paid lots of money for alternative treatments.
15 years later I decided to try taking medication. I have not looked back since.
Now I am able to function normally for the first time in my life

I own a Service Company In Wa. I asked a 35ish heart surgeon customer of mine, "Why do shrinks, pick that specialty instead of others"?
He laughed first, and then told me that there is an inside Medical School joke that those Drs have "issues" and they are trying to deal with them. Oh great the sicker helping the sick. I was wondering how they could ever do a "Sexual Deviancy Test" and then eat lunch. Disgusting to sat the least. They "vote" mental illness into their holy shrink book.

Many of the deadly drugs that were removed from the market which were not psych drugs were fluoridated as well, and numerous fluoridated drugs remain.
Anyone who wants to know if their drugs contain fluoride should go to my blog and in my January post, "My Interview: Why I Left Mainstream Medicine" you'll find a link to a list of fluoridated meds as well as diseases and symptoms caused by fluoride.
actually, no. The main "ingredient" in psych drugs is not fluoride. Many many drugs have a fluoride attached to them. I don't think that this fluoride ever leaves the drug.
According to what I've read, the fluoride in the drugs (and yes, I know drugs like Cipro and birth control pills in addition to psych meds have fluoride) causes the same harmful effects to the brain, hormones, thyroid etc. as drinking it in water.
Psychiatry doesn't cure. Mental illness cannot be proven with a blood test. But I guess an important question would be does treatment help? Are people more stable, able to function better in society, is there less suicide? And are these improvements balanced appropriately against side-effects of the treatment? These are more important questions rather than taking people's statements out of context. But your editing makes for better media coverage!
I agree with chansen1970. The psychiatrists' comments were carefully edited. They were not asked the question 'does therapy help a mentally distressed person manage their mood or behaviour'. Talking therapies and learning + practising positive ways of feeling and thinking can help. Not all psychiatrists deal out medication. The important point is whether the patient feels more in control of themselves and their lives from therapy. The key is surely management - not cure - of mental illness.
Thanks Misstiggykins. Psychiatry doesn't claim to cure, but hopes to help people live more stable, fulfilling lives. Even there are no blood tests, it's obvious that mental illness can be a very debilitating condition. Cognitive therapy, medications and such are very helpful in bringing stability to people's lives.

We had no facility to quantify the blood sugar levels 500 years back, but diabetes was present then, and attempts were made to treat diabetes.
We have no technology to quantify the serotonin levels in the brain right now,but that doesn't mean that depression is not present in people.
