The melody and chords are there, but the most important part -- the mastering -- does not sound like coldplay. Coldplay has more... mysterious reverb-ish stuff going on. In fact I think 99% of coldplay's success is due to the sound engineer. It's like a cook with a secret recipe. Once someone figures it out, everyone can suddenly sound like Coldplay.
You could try to illustrate this by making a remastered version of your song that does sound like Coldplay.
all it needs honestly is a small part about making the videos look the same as well and it'd be the most amazing thing ever (not that it's not already awesome)

someone to make cool sound effects with something (guitar or dj)
someone to use their voice to shout stuff (singer)
and maybe a bass (me), strip of piece of bark or grass and pluck it it serious it works i've tried it!

I think you'll find it's comedy. Envy is a different feeling. I was at Glasto 2 years ago and too many bands did sound like Coldplay so i could easily see the funny side.

Everybody takes from the bands before them. Thats how music progresses and we make something new. Yeah they have obnoxious videos and are very popular so I can see why there is a backlash against them. Hell yeah they kick ass so I'd like to sound like them. Good job.

All this talk about coldplay... every band sounds like them; they unsuccesfully copy U2's 2001-present sound and think that makes them good. People who think coldplay even approaches U2 should listen to U2's Joshua Tree, War and Achtung baby masterpieces. People who compare the overall sound of the bands seem to forget that U2 has been making best selling albums since 1980(they didnt start in 2001) and are STILL the biggest band in the world today, not to mention the best live.

coldplay introduce piano(as a primary instrument)some bands use it in one-two songs(guns n' roses,motley crue,etc) but no as a primary instrument and now a lot of bands use it(keane)and some artist copy the way to be on stage of chris martin(snow patrol,maroon 5,james blunt,james morrison)this band is been attacked for a lot of flanks i hope they survived

Just imagine Chris sang this song with different lyrics, and sure it would've been a massive hit.

I think people in America might not be able to appreciate just how many bands in the UK are nothing more than poor versions of Coldplay (and Coldplay themselves are mostly awful too). Just like the millions of Nirvana wannabes in the early 90s and Oasis wannabes in the late 90s, the most popular bands always get copied. Its just a shame they're picking such a poor model these days.
