This is what you these dumbass huge corporations do, they try and cut costs and make stuff in China and it comes back shit!!! FUck all these fucking corporate assholes!! THey have ruined everything!!! Make Quality stuff in America, we will buy it!!! China is a communist run dump!!!
it shows poor quality, you dumbass. The Chinese have ruined a great brand of laptops! Stupid ass corporations try to cut costs and end up producing garbage!! Fuck Lenovo and Fuck IBM
@buckwheat40 probably IBM had better quality and that was American until lenovo came with those goddamn commie engineers
I have an R61i just got it a few weeks ago and there's a lot of cheap plastics, the screen flexes, the plastic where the thinkvantage logo is felxes a lot
thisis my first laptop I wanted sg original then I choosed ThinkPads but it seems there aren't any thinkpads no more as you said that's a complete junk
I assume you got a refurb, because I just recieved mine and the keyboard has no flex. Furthermore check official review sites, Lenovo went back to the old keyboard design like 3 months ago.
I recently bought a T500 and had the same exact issue. I called Lenovo and asked for a new keyboard and provided the FRU# 42T3143. IBM shipped the new part to me overnight and my T500 keyboard is now rock solid. Don't hesitate to buy, guys, they have excellent customer support. Thank you IBM and Lenovo!!
I'm typing this on the T500 i got 2 weeks ago (mid may 2009). The flex on the left is obvious. what is irritating the hell out of me more than the flex is the acoustics: it does sound hollow, and as if the left part of the keyboard (especially S,D,Q keys) are hitting something below. Truly irritating. I haven't come across a better laptop keyboard for extensive use than HP's 6220
i sent you a message, if anyone else wants conformation that this issue has been addressed message me. They have redesigned the keyboard on the T400, i have picture and reliable proof.
just bought a t500. the whole left side of the keyboard flexes pretty noticeably. its not the end of the world i guess but for the money i paid i would have liked rock solid construction.
Man, I was looking at a T500 for college, but this is disappointing. Lenovo had a few things up on much cheaper Dell laptops, but now those advantages are dwindling.
I just got the T500 and only 1/2 of the keyboard has the flex issue, it definetly feels different then a normal notebook keyboard and also on that side when you type the keys make a lounder noise.
This problem (actually this design feature:) ) was discussed on official lenovo forums, and they worked out a solution - you call/mail lenovo, and they send you an older version of keyboard (from t61/t61p), which is flex-free.
Also most of new units (T, R, W) should came with the older (better, heavier though) keyboards.
No problems on my T400, it's as firm as my T22. The keyboard in this video looks like it's from some cheap crap Dell. I seriously think you should take it back to the store, it appears to be defective.
depends on when you bought it, lenovo has put the old T61 keyboard back in production around the end of 2008. U might got the little heavier but the good one
This could be possible- I was not aware that Lenovo had the old keyboard back in production. I just found it sorta strange; everyone was complaining about keyboard flex, I can push down really hard, I see no flex.
Yes, the keyboard on the T400 and T500 flexes more than other models. The metal backing plate is solid on other models, but has many holes cut into it (presumably to reduce mass) on the T400 and T500. A pity. Hopefully Lenovo will go back to solid backing plates.
Yep, it is so saaaaad to see IBM going down in quality! In the last 3-4 yrs IBM produces cheaply made stuff. I miss the quality of the old IBM laptops, which were sturdy and solid. I love IBM, but more and more often I look around for a different brand to switch to
There is flex on T61 keyboard as well and I can see keyboard bending as I type this. A side by side comparison might tell more about the issue. If there really is one
T400 is smaller, so due to tighter build I assume flex might be also smaller. Please also note that "flex" is subjective matter. At the moment I'm using 5y old laptop, and just noticed it also has keyboard flex simmilar to the video :)
My T400 has no noticeable flex on it during normal typing. I'm thinking that it's either developing through use or maybe that it's just a defect on certain units.
Gee what a great video... moron

Do you have any idea if they put the same fix in the t500? I'd assume they did but I'm having trouble confirming.

absolutely right, The chinese just want to destroy IBM name.

Huh. This old Inspiron 2600 that's sitting on my desk has a far stiffer keyboard than that. That's pretty sad, considering the ThinkPad reputation.

im using a t41 right now :] the old school ibm laptops are thinner than your modern dell, toshiba, etc. laptops

Same for me, my brand new T400 doesn't have this problem, but I've seen videos of several other ones that are very similar that do.

i think they did a slight update to fix keyboard flex. not all T500's will have this now.

wow. i din know its that bad. how much force did you exert? (currently typing on a x61t keyboard).
im tempted to get a W500 or T61p.
maybe until they moved to a full keyboard will i switch.

Only some T500's seems to have this flex

my X61 has a perforated backplate but does not flex, probably because its a 12" chassis
