these guys made Born In The USA look like great music was easy to do.....i really hope one day everyone will recognise just how good and special this album is...timeless, touching and beautiful!! : )
Great comments elps84. It is the same here in italy with a terribly corrupted political class that only looks about themselves and their privileged life. but times will change sooner than later...
He sounds fucking retarded in this version lol. I thought it was a spoof at first. He sounds like the people who did "creed shreds 3" here on youtube. lol
@MrGuitarHurricane First of all, I dont sing. And the fact that I dont sing has absolutely nothing to fucking do with the fact that this version sound slike shit. Let me re-peat that before you go popping off at the mouth about me not singing. THE FACT THAT I DONT SING HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT THIS VERSION SOUNDS LIKE ABSOLUTE SHIT. I swear I thought this one was a spoof.
@Mataleaoexpert Before you insult someone elses offering perhaps you should offer your own...If you can't do any better yourself maybe you should think before you speak/type..And yes it has everything to do with the fact you can't play or sing...You're calling someone else for doing something you're incapable of...Can we say paradox :)
@MrGuitarHurricane Nothing you guys say changes the fact that he sounds like a retard. Everything else is completely irrelevant. berr berr berr car wash berrrrrr berr ber. LOL. I never said Bruce Springsteen cant sing. You morons fail to see that cause you're blinded by ignorance. Bruce is actually a very good singer. IN THIS VERSION HE SOUNDS LIKE A RETARD.
this is the real thing - an anthem of the american working class, fleeced and beaten, lost jobs, homes and marriages, and now living in their cars--while the criminals who engineered the wall street rip-off are sipping their martinis in Greenwich CT. Harvest time coming soon baby
I saw Spingsteen in Anaheim and marveled that he was the "voice of the people". My heart was on fire for days. Even the little people have a friend in Bruce Springsteen.
yea because the lyrics are so damn dark and depressing. this is one of his best songs hes ever written. i wouldve prefered him doing an acoustic guitar version of this., but i do like this
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's difficult for me to listen to Bruce nowadays, he sings in this very affected manner - a kind Dylanesque quality. The "manner" calls so much attention to itself that the song, the words, and the content are lost to it.
you say it's affected - but all singing is affected, in that it's deliberate and contrived and considered. Springsteen is just trying to take a very old song and rather than do it the SAME way again and and again over 20 + years so that we're all bored to tears with it, he's taking a slightly different approach - stripping it bare, making it more cutting. It's his song, he can do what he likes. I agree it's more challenging to listen to, but it works and it beautiful
First, I should say, I'm not into having discussions, where if someone disagrees, it's turned into a dichotomy discussion. Your definition of "affected" is a bit off. All singing is not affected. I can be influenced by someone with a raspy voice, & try to sing with a raspy voice, but it's not natural, so it comes off as artificial. Not only does Bruce voice sound affected here (artificial) but it sounds very reminiscent of Bob Dylan. And yes, I do like to hear various versions of the same song.
iv'e disliked that style for awhile now,he seems to do it with the old songs, the new stuff has sounded great live since he got the band back together,it kinda ruins it for me when he does that.
He's Dylanesque here, and in a lot of the Dylanesque early material from "Greetings," but he hasn't lost the ability to sing out when he needs to, such as on the last two records, and he can still use his more usual rock and roll voice with the band behind him. With this tour, at least, he was trying to call more attention to himself, becuase he was the show. I know what you mean, but it's not that hard. On a record, he's calm, in concert, everyone else isn't.
There may be various reasons for the change in his sound: He's older and the voice doesn't have the range it used to. Friends who know more about singing say that some aspect of his singing is hard on a voice...in the end everyone's voice goes. So is he compensating? Also, I think Bruce took a step back...maybe he thought he'd lost something (lost touch with something?) and this Dylanesque way of singing, a kind of raw bluesy/country/folk sound might contribute to getting back what was lost?
All I know is that he's still singing with grace on these pop records that he's been putting out, which is why I agree with the second half of your statement more than the first.
Bear with me:
I know that this is virtually no comparison to Bruce, but not every voice goes. Let me name my example: Roy Orbison.
Excellent song and rendition thanks for the recommendation. However, my statement was not a "one-dimensional" - he lacks vocal range. Over all, I think that style can trump content and the link you recommended, although a powerful version of the song, proves the point. In this rendition, the lyrics and the meaning of the song is secondary to the performance and gets lost in it - despite it being a great rendition. - Thanks for the link.
It is odd when someone decides to sing with an accent that's not their own. You see singers who decide one day to do country and they acquire the country accent then, years later they drop it again. Sort of runs counter to the whole idea of integrity: being yourself, singing about what you know and where you're from.
Well...the Reunion Tour was outstanding. It was back to the Bruce everyone had come to know and love! When he decided in the 1990's to end the Estreet, it was devastating. I did go and see him without the big E but it was still a great show. We talking about Bruce. But this tour & and earlier tours w/out EStreet! The organ really sucked & what was worse is his fake mid-western twang affect he uses to sing! I'm from Jersey &why he started to sing like this is beyond me! He doesnt talk like that!
masterpiece . gives me shivers .

@LeprachaunXL ...u gotta be a fucking idiot to think this is an amazing version....its sad. You clearly have not seen Bruce all that often.
This tour and Fkn organ was a disaster!

This would have worked much better with a guitar.
That being said though, the organ works well with Tunnel of Love.

@Eeza07 I agree, I hate when he sings with that Fake Dylan affect!
He nailed 4 great performances in October 2009 in Philly. He blew off the roof and Rocked the walls down. He was the Bruce I needed him to be.

bear in mind that the original album version of this song is from 1984...he may not be able to physically sing it the same as he could 25 years ago.

He started singing like this in the 1990's and there is no excuse for it.
When Ive seen him in homeland Jersey and the Reunion tour he didnt sing like this. He picks and chooses when to do it!
jerseyrovcker61 2 years ago
Do you notice that twang he uses when he sings sometimes.
What is that about anyway. He doesn't talk like that so why does he sing like he is from the Midwest with that annoying twang?
I love Bruce but I cant stand when he sings like this!

There are occasions where it pops up from some songs on the reunion tour. Some songs it sounds good, others not so.
