haha! this is awesome! i found this video 2 or 3 years ago, and looking back on it now i see that i'm actually in a Piano I class for music majors at the university level and you teach the class!
hate to be a "bonehead" but i haven't had a piano lesson in 4 years, and although i like to learn songs through youtube, its only effective for me when i get to see it being played, and you fail to focus on that!
@mariocast well pausing didnt help but ya the video is great. Didnt know you had to play the first two notes of the chord and then go to the next set....
Interesting, I just started playing Clocks not too long ago, and looks like I was playing the base wrong all together.. time to work on the bass notes!!!! Thanks!!
i get the notes but the one thing i don't understand is if the G you are playing is middle C. I have an piano like yours and it sounds a little low on mine when i play it on middle C. Thanks :)
You are absolutely the man. It was wicked easy to learn...I learned more about piano mechanics and the joke at the end was hilarious! couldnt have made a better video keep on teaching
hi great video! i was wondering if you could explain the bass notes; and YES i know they are at 1:12, but since i dont know a single chord or note, i just copy what your fingers are doing :/
@DanishaSinger1 Yes indeed that just adds the human toucch to a fantastic lesson, without even realising it I now know the E Flat and B Flat chords, which will give me some basic stuff to work on as I try to learn this magnificent instument
thank you ...i watched a few wannabe teachers, who probably need some lessons. you made it simple to understand im very basic on piano but i will be taking some more lessons from yourself.cheers ...brian from scotland
@greenbananaful Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the compliments. You and some other viewers might be interested in my new video, "How to play Christmas Lights by Coldplay on piano". You can find it under the video responses to this video or on my YouTube Channel. Happy Holidays!
@BoJanga97 Yeah, the final note of the last triad in the sequence should be an F instead of Eb. Strangely enough, this fact is portrayed correctly in the video, but not in the recording.
this is genius im now learning how to play the piano and i was looking how to play clocks and no ONE i found would break it down slowly for me but then i found YOU! THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!! excellent work!!
Why must people get so off track with the comments, who gives a shit what someone calls another person. It is not a big deal, Coldplay aren't having a cry about him calling them British, so I don't think anybody needs to speak for them.
I had lessons for about 4 years, when I was a kid. I really want to play Coldplay songs.. So maybe I will take lessons again. Maybe.. I need a very good pull-factor on that.
@Hardster2k10 Just to clarify, I wasn't insulting you or English people in general. The comment was a response at the user: oMeGaSoLjaX. He complained about me calling Coldplay "British". Do I get all my panties up in a bunch if someone calls me "American" instead of "Filipino-American", "Texan", "Former-New-Jersey-Dweller", etc.? No, because it doesn't matter. If you read some of the profane insults that he sent my way, you might understand. If I offended any English people, I apologize.
@Hardster2k10 Haha this made me laugh because first of all...most Americans have come from other countries and you're trying to say you guys owned "Americans?" Besides those were your great ancestors and our great ancestors from a long time ago, it wasnt you nor anyone else still alive. So dont try to act tough about something you had nothing to do with
first of great video and i was wondering if you can help . i have a problem using both hands together because if i do ill start to speed up with my right hand until eventually it just sounds 'mashed' i was wondering what you do to help your students if they have the same problem.
Hello Mario.....I am a huge fan of Coldplay. I love the sound you get with your keyboard. How do you get the back ground music and the base. Is it something to do with the laptop on top of your keyboard. If so could you lead me in the right direction.
When you were playing in the beginning of the video, something sounded off. I'm pretty sure you were hitting the wrong key, yet your trying to teach people to play the song? Wth?
Mario, your five-year old might be able to play, and so can I when I say this, but some people can't remember everything there is to know about how to play a piano. Of course, they will be lazy if not trying, but sometimes people just can't learn.
And can you play this on a piano? I hate the keyboard.
Stupid if you cant play 8 notes in the left hand in a measure and are whining because he didn't show how to play it obviously you've never played piano. I think i learned how to play hands together when i was 5.
you know, he showed the notes of the left hand, and it was so easy even a baby can read it! if you cant read that note, you are pretty useless with piano...
For those concerned that he is teaching the wrong note (the lowest in the Fmin arpeggio), you should follow his instruction, not by the sound of the MIDI file that is representing the song. He is teaching how to play it correctly. A common problem with MIDI files is that they are, frequently, incorrect. If you play what he is teaching, you will be able to play the song as written by Coldplay.
You said, and I quote, "Here's the explanation of the LEFT HAND for all the boneheads who leave comments saying it was left out" Well I'm sorry but you are the bonehead if you aren't even going to teach us how to play it!!!!!!! All you did was explain the piece, not how to play it! Have you thought about that one!?!?!? If you're going to insult people, you should think about what you're saying first!
@nathatsat What part of "1 measure of E-flat, 2 measures of B-flat, and 1 measure of F" did you not understand? If you are so musically illiterate that you can't play the left hand after that explanation AND having the actual notes on the bass staff shown on the screen, then the root of the problem is in the one who's learning and not the one who's teaching.
