  • The first goof can easily be explained off because with the time circuity using tubes it would take far longer then solid state electronics to accomplish the same thing. The second goof is easily explainable too, his hand moved to the arm as the camera shifted, which you missed one at that point. Doc being the future one would know he dress Marty like a tool. The gloves she could have removed getting off the train. The hat could be Doc's. You found nothing!

  • I found one goof to this video, or that you cannot count past three...

  • ... the steam lcomotive could never hit 88 mph the couplers on the train should be link in pin and the whistle would still be blowing after the old guy (quits ) blowing it due to the whistle chord is still down..so there for the whistle valve would still be open. and that type of whistle didnt exist back in the 1800's they were all 1 chime hooter whistles.and that rope in the coaches the gal pulled wouldnt be there due to airbrakes weren't around then. i win.- the train expert.

  • I think the first goof could be attributed to the antiquated vacume tube technology doc had to implement in the 50's just taking a little time to work before instantly transporting Marty to 1885. The last goof Doc said he wanted to do that all his life. Maybe he had the hat in his pocket.

    Good finds. Thanks.

  • The bigger goof is when Marty shifts to Reverse instead of First... 0:25

  • @thebiggreen101 Nope, that's a common misconception. The rear engined Delorean (as well as several models of Porche) have the transmissions facing the opposite direction. Therefore the standard "H" layout is mirrored compared to a conventional front-engined vehicle.

  • JUST AN FYI that 88 MPH at the start of this video was NOT A GOOF UP! The delorean Only has to HIT 88 MPH TO OPEN the field to travel back in time. It does NOT travel back in time right when it hits 88 mph.

  • Come on! That train can go faster than that! It was going 20 or 30, it's top speed for that modle would have benn around 60mph. And I am sick of people saying that trains are useless and obsolete. One, they carry WAY more than any other land vehicle or aircraft. Two, they can go straight, which gives a huge advantage over trucks. Three, in non-residential areas the speed can accelerate to 110 mph. So face the fact that trains are extremely useful.

  • Goof #4... There could have been another hat in the train... there is more than one hat in the world

  • When Clara pulls the emergency cable, it locks up the brakes on the loco. The automatic air brake only works on the coaches, not the loco, and an emergency application rarely causes all the wheels to lock up. Also, the shot of the loco stopping was a reverse shot of it backing away from the camera.

One more that you didn't get - when Marty and Doc are first checking out the bridge, the line approaching the bridge is WAAAAY too steep for trains working by adhesion alone.

  • Goof 1 -the car doesnt go as fast anyways and top speed on that is about 90 and plus it had to get use to the new modifications

Goof 2- he hand simply slid down big woop

Goof 3 - she could have hand taken off her gloves to lighting up from the big poofy dress she had on

Goof 4 - he brought the hat with him (since he wanted to do that his whole life HAHA)

yes this is just me being a smartass HAHA

  • you missed the first one, when he is real close to the Indians then hes far away then close again

  • The first one: remember in the first movie how it was getting all those flares and shit at like 79 miles per hour

  • Comment removed

  • the first one is completely irrelevant. sure other instances in the movie hint that 88mph = time travel, but after all the modifications and different conditions, you cant expect experimental technology to be consistent. doc could have even rounded off 88.4353745 mph, so who gives a shit!

  • And what this scientist could not take oil and overtake in gasoline?

  • 0:18 that's one mean sounding Delorean, did they put a bigger exhaust on it?

  • @coma9 different engine. but those are overlay sfx anyway

  • ur a dumb ass marty did not actually go back in time till 88 and for the glove and hat thing stupid like people cant take off and put on hats and gloves at a moments notice stop trying to tear down one of the most iconic films in history hrasping at straws pathetic and sad

  • i dont remember what was that shit on the delorean's hood for

  • @Facu4815 it replace some little Japenesse part that was about one inch long lol

  • I never realized, till now, the significance of Marty quoting The Lone Ranger's, "Hi-Ho Silver" (Silver was the name of Lone Ranger's horse. Right before he would ride off he'd say, "Hi-Ho Silver! Away!)

    The Stainless Steele, Silver-Colored Delorean

  • Goof #5 So whose* hat is dock wearing?

  • @jsnives9 whos says there was not an extra one in the train?

why were the train conductor already holding the latch to release the other cars?

  • @chrisrenee2006 It was sarcasm, I'm not sure if you saw the asterisk after I wrote "whose." The person who made this video was nit picking the movie and their question for goof #5 reads "so who's hat is doc wearing?" But now that you mentioned it, why was* the train conductor already holding the latch to release the other cars? lol

  • There are indeed movies out there with legitimate mistakes, but people who examine films under a microscope are bound to find "goofs" that don't really exist simply because they are looking so hard. It is assumed on the part of the viewer that certain MINOR events take place OFF CAMERA, such as lowering one's hand from someone's shoulder to their arm or removing your gloves. Otherwise, you can add: Error #5 - No one in this movie went to the bathroom... EVER, because it was not shown on film.

  • What's next? Does the Delorean turn out to be a BMW? All those "goofs are just tiny little thing no one really cares about until you point them out.

  • At :26 the time circuits were not on.

  • The Doc had only recently (from his point of view) buried the Delorean, they could have unburied it and nicked parts and fuel to repair the one Marty bought back and been on there way. Would have been a much shorter film though.

  • @Londonphoto No they couldn't do that because that would be a paradox, then the doc from 1955 wouldn't have been able to repair the Delorean and Marty wouldn't had gone back in time.

  • @prinzezze The whole film is based on a Paradox! Going back to stop the doc being killed is a bit like the Grandfather scenario. If the doc is not dead he would not go back so the Doc dies etc. Any time travel back in time would be a Paradox event, especially if you back to deliberately change something. Good film though despite all the flaws :-)

  • @Londonphoto i never thought of that lol good call haha docs an idiot

  • @Londonphoto yes, but by unburying it, wouldn't the Delorean along with Marty cease to exist in 1885? At least by the laws of time travel set forth by BTTF.

  • @Londonphoto Okay...so in 1955, Doc and Marty have an incomplete DeLorean that they CAN'T get spare parts for. See the problem? I suspect both men knew that the DeLorean had to be left as buried for the timeline to work.

  • @RebelKnightCSA But all they needed was the fuel line and Petrol/Diesel, both available in 1955 and repairable by the 1955 Doc.They just had to re-bury the car after pinching the parts then be on their way to cause the same paradox the

    storey ends with anyway :-)

  • @Londonphoto You're not thinking 4th dimensionaly! if Marty took the one Doc buried in 1885, then Marty from 1955 wouldn't have a Delorean to dig up later. Endless cycle time paradox.

  • @Londonphoto They couldn't rob parts off of the one Doc had just buried because it would create a time paradox because then Marty couldn't use it to go back to the 1800's.

  • @TheSportCompact Yes they could, the Doc of the 1950's could easily replace the stolen parts and fuel. The whole film is a Parodox anyway, he stopped the Doc from being killed in the 1800's therefore the grave would not have been found and Marty would not have gone back. Have a great weekend.

  • @Londonphoto Oh so the Doc of the 1950's is going to be able to find an electronic fuel injection system for a Delorian three decades before it was designed and manufactured. I would love to see that. What is he going to contact John Delorean and give him the idea for the DMC 12 so he will build one for him? Do you see how flawed your logic is there? That is what would create the paradox. You missed that whole point of that. The tombstone can come and go and he can save Doc without a paradox.

  • These are the silliest "goofs" ever. Each one can be logically explained away. And the should/arm thing and the first "goof" are hardly goofs. Gimme something meaty, like "Doc calls Marty 'Carrie' in this scene" or something.

  • most train crews often found stuff left behind on the locomotive from previous crews, it still happens today with keys, clipboards, paperwork, hats and even work bags. I say that the hat was there prior to them starting their shift

  • about the first one, it never travels right when it hits 88 MPH. Number two, perhaps he moved it really fas. number three, there was a good 3 seconds that we didn't see hr. she could have taken them off then. number four, there could have been a spare hat that belonged the conductor.

  • I clicked dislike and ill tell you why, goof 1 - ok well the delorean was buried for 70 years and damaged. The delorean was now officially 70 years old, so the speed adjustment was off, simple explanation right there, and ok so clara took her gloves off before she got off the train, another simple explanation and the two hats the engineers were wearing? Well omg, can we say...........spare hat? Another simple explanation.

  • Trains of that day and age wouldn't have emergency brake cords or knuckle couplings.

  • @ShuntingTank043 American locomotives did have knuckle couplers at that time, but no brake cord. Traditional British rail trains used chain couplings but American locos have had knuckle couplers for quite a while :)

  • @bluecoatscheesypoofs Ah, sorry, I'm not as up to date on Railways as I thought I was. Thanks.

  • also i think a car over 2000hp has to be automatic

  • If I knew about any I would not even tell you, I dont think its that big of a deal.

  • you know. its people like you i hate. you go around finding movie mistakes that dont even fucking matter. just enjoy the fucking movie.

  • @guitarguy1751 As asinine as it is to find such mundane mistakes, I can think of alot of reasons to actually "hate" someone. This just isn't one of them. Merry Christmas.

  • you missed the one where he's driving. everyone knows americans can't drive stick.

  • @preytec I can name at least 10 americans who drive sticks beautifully!!!

  • @preytec im american, and not only do i drive stick, i drive a '94 ford escort cosworth RS

  • @TecZero1000 an escort is a awful car, i know it's the cosworth but it's still an escort.

but if you look at the stats you'll see i'm right. in f1 there are no american drivers, your biggest car event is daytona, all they have to do is turn left and they still crash. after that it's drag racing, again no right hand turn. and most of the car sales in the US are automatics.

individuals can drive but as a nation americans can't drive stick.

  • @preytec I live in Daytona X3, but i think it's either between the Rolex 24hr race at daytona or the Daytona 500,and also it's the only cosworth i can get, i want the sierra cossie or get a smart car with the turbo hayabusa engine kit

  • Holy cow this was hilarious.

  • Clara probably left them with her luggage. Wouldn't you throw anything extra away if YOU only had a little time? And the hat? Haven't you heard of extra hats?

  • Comment removed

  • I love the "who's hat is he wearing"? lol. It's obviously not the one he was just wearing.

  • This came out before The Polar Express did by about 10 years. So if anything The Polar Express copied from this movie rather than the other way around.

  • The Delorean doesnt go back in time instantly at 88 MPH. it just needs to be at 88 to work

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • 3:25 that probably could have been a spare hat.

  • 1st one is bs the tubes from 1955 have to warm up until they function properly just like a tv from 1955 have a 50 second start up time

  • My observation with the scene where Doc saves Marty from being hanged is this: Techincally... Doc from 1955 sent Marty back to 1885 to save himself from being shot. If that was the case, Doc in 1885 should have known that in the 50s he sent Marty back to save himself and would have known he was coming and probably shouldn't have yelled at him... PARADOX!!

  • @sevenx77

I think the way they explain that is called the Ripple Effect, where things that happen to yourself in the past as a result of time-travel take a while to catch up with you.

But if you think about it, all of these movies are huge gigantic paradoxes, because all of the time-traveling has already happened; You wouldn't actually need to go back and do it. But then if you don't go do it, then it won't ever happen in the first place, and then you WOULD have to do it, et cetera...

  • pause it at 0:47 - 0:48 ... the first "goof" is wrong. it clearly shows on the dashboard that marty is at 71mph.

  • All three of these films were damn good considering how crappy they could have been.

  • Doc pulling the whistle is also similiar to the Polar Express

  • Did anyone notice that the scene at 2:02 where the trains stops is similar to the train stopping in the Polar Express. Kinda ironic though since this is Robert Zemekis.

  • cut me deep

  • who cares It still came out as great movie

  • goof 1 explained: theyre using shitty 1950s vaccuum tubes

as their stand in time travel parts so all the extra light show and slowness

is accounted for 30 year old technology upgrades.

evrything inbetween is semi small continuity errors

and final why wouldnt the train engineer have an extra hat by his seat??

  • I agre with Kidzrule your stupid goof 1 worng

  • i wish they would've made a part 4

  • whoa whoa whoa the reasons it hits 88 long before the time travel occurs is because of the makeshift time circuits!!!!!

  • are you stupid? Im from Cork, my girlfriend is from B elfast. Go to college and learn, or be a NINJA............... motha....f...aa.

  • sorry, i was too busy enjoying the awsome epicness of the trilogy to give a fuck

  • i have another goof, in the saloon at night, they are using light bulbs in the lamps, when there was no electricity in 1885

  • @MigsDaRutt wat

Electricity has been around since the Big Bang, broseph

  • @wyssmaster My brother posted that comment. I'm sure what he meant was that they didn't have light bulbs in 1885. He was wrong, though. lol

  • @wyssmaster i.e., my brother made a goof.

  • -crew member visible on left side just before Marty dragged behind horses

    -Vern pointing to his McFly

-tumbleweed stuck to Delorean door during Indian chase

-gurney blade visible under rabbit platter pass. Platter bends slightly

-Marty goes in for a hug from Seamus instead of taking the baby

-Delorean changes position in bear cave along with shadow.

-Hole in Marty's pant leg disappears while hanging.

-Nobody smells manure on Marty's shoes in saloon.

-No whiskey smoke on counter b4 Doc passed out

  • there are some plausible explanations for these goofs: the 1st one, it was at the end of the time travel sequence still holding at 88mph, clara threw her gloves off in the train, doc's arm slid down from martys shoulder to his arm, doc found a spare hat in the train conductor's seat/area.

  • 'bout goof 1 Jerry rigged time circuit

  • Question: In BTT1, Doc was all concerned about screwing up the space time continuum and resisted reading Marty's letter.

Doesn't stealing a train back in the wild west really fuck up with a lot of people's futures?

  • In this series, at the end of Part 1- Jennifer looks just like Claudia Wells- and George looks just like Crispin Glover - AND in the SAME exact scene to open Part 2- Jennifer all of a sudden transforms to Elisabeth Shue and George transforms into Jeffrey Weissman-- and Michael J. Fox plays in own daughter and they're driving a DeLorean throughout time-- and you wanna nit pick about some gloves?

  • I don't know if there are any more goofs, I would have to watch the movie again. However, there was one goof in the trailer to the movie, which was shown at the end of BTTF II. It shows Doc aiming his gun at Buford Tannen and yelling, "just try it, Tannen", and that is not in the movie, nor is it in the deleted scenes (at least none that I have seen).

  • You forgot the kid pointing at his dick

  • biggest GOOF ever:

So the gas tank on the delorean marty drove had a leak and they're out of gas? So how about the delorean the doc came in, and is now buried in a mine shaft?

  • @papageno01 oh yer, and in the first one when Lorraine said marty was a nice name, why didnt she call her first son marty ??

  • @papageno01 both of the deloreans are out of gas, they gave the car gas in 1955

  • You are an idiot, this is just a movie and you are analizing it too much, by the time the shot panned to the other angle doc had moved his hand a little bit below the shoulder, its not rocket science to figure that out, and also when clara decided to get off the train she took off the gloves because they were for traveling , and doc had a train hat for the movie, doesnt matter where it came from, you are being to over critical its just a movie, be thankfull for what we have

  • That is not a goof, the delorean in this time was stored for 70 years, so there is a 4 second wait time untill it fully goes back in time,

  • The all important goof: Why did Doc Brown, an inventor, suddenly become a scientist?

  • You forget that it was working with 1950's part so it took a while to start the effect

  • Theres a blooper. In the modern day train scene, while Marty is watching the the train approach in horror, you can see the shadow of the train and how it shows that only the locomotive is there. Finally, when the deloresn is getting crushed you can see the train with it's freight cars.

  • BIG FUCKIN DEAL

  • gloves? where clara was going she didnt need gloves

  • Comment removed

  • Why is Doc checking his watch? It's not like they need to catch something with a countdown... :)

  • @djsixottawa You're so right, I never noticed that before

  • Come to think of it, couldn't Marty just have told the 50s Doc to remember not to piss off Madd Dogg Tannen ?

But then we wouldn't have this gem of a movie.

  • doc is wear ing his own hat

  • The first goof was wrong, He hit 88 and the time travel DID start, but the car is half broken and fixed with parts from 1955 so it's much slower.

  • @Kidzrule743 Its not that, it's because the car was so close to the Indians that at that part when the car hit 88 mph, it looks like if the Indians were to pass by him.

  • @Hperman09 actually thats the point, he's scared about it and it gets the audience scared, but in reality when he goes back they are distance back a bit, giving him reaction time and the audience relief :)

  • @Kidzrule743 Is it fair to note that an actual DeLorean speedometer only reads up to 75 MPH... It can go faster than that obviously, I just thought that was an awesome thing to know :3

  • @4hand561 lol thats cool! but it's not the original speedmeter its docs super uber speed meter :3

  • @Kidzrule743 First of all.. -.-... ED EDD'N'EDDY FOR THE WIN :D... that is all :3

  • @4hand561 lawlyup :3

  • Another goof, when uncoupling only the knuckle on the flatcar should have opened if only one person was pulling the cut lever.

  • its pefect you have to go toward an object at 88 in order to trapsort Dog said all you have to do is to drive toward the screen at 88 MPH.

  • A typical mistake for quite a few movies: The "chug chug" sound of the train as it is pulling away is way too fast for the rotation of the wheels, when it should happen at the extremes of each piston travel. And oddly enough, there's no steam escaping from the pistons (compare the steam as it's pulling up behind the car), making me suspect the engine is being pushed from behind.

  • @artgoat Although the sound is a little fast, there is no need for steam to escape from the cylinders if the cylinders cocks are closed (which they SHOULD be open if the engine is starting from a stop).

  • it took the time circuts awhile to warm up considering its been aiin a cave for around 100 years!

  • You forgot one when marty stops the car bef pullin into the cave there was no arrow but when marty goes back to the car to close the door there is an arrow stickin out of the car. Also why would he pull it out since hes there he should have left it in there and when he and doc came back to get the car he could have shown doc and then doc prob would have told him not to pull it out.

  • what do you mean?

  • about goof 1 the time circuit was made with tubes not microchips (it takes time to warm those up, while microchips are almost instant)

  • ok, the first "mistake" you pointed out was that the car went to 88 MPH before going to 1885....of course it will the time circuits from the 1955 counterpart arent as good as the originals and are going to be slower so they wont activate as quick....now the hat that Doc has on in the train scene is actually shown him grabbing it from inside the train...see, in those days there were usually 3 conductor/engineers but, for some reason in this scene there were only 2 I can only assume that one sick.

  • it's the 1985, what do u want more?Even movies now have mistake

  • Goof 1: probably because of the makeshift part, Goof 4: Spare?, Rest idk

  • Only watched the first one, the 88 is correct. How about the fact the time circuits are not on when Marty engages the shifter and the flux capacitor is not activated thusly in later shots

  • How did christopher lyoid get the info how to drive a train?

  • @bowser5678 Cause he's Christopher Llyod.

  • to what chrisohummer said it's " roads? where were going we dont NEED roads" lol

  • the 88 mph thing is not a goof thats how the delorean time travels now

  • In back to the future 1 Marty has a different haircut when he suddenly stops the deloren to look at lion estates in 1955 and gets out of the time machine.

    Take a look at it!

  • Here is a question, when did Doc and Marty first meet? Was it 1985 or 1955?

  • @vodorf Marty met him before 1985, doc meets him in 1955. But orginally before he invented the time machine they both met before 1985

  • Another: When Clara stops the train, at the side of the frame, the smoke is going back IN the train (filmed in reverse)

  • @TheOdysseyKid better look again the smoke is being push out the side the steam locking up the breaks ..this scene is not filmed in reverse

  • you can see him changing hats. And when he blows the wistle, you can see his other hat. NOT a mistake

  • There's a reserve hat infront of him then he switched hats

  • Comment removed

  • You missed the biggest goof of all. Doc builds a bumper rack and puts the tires in it for the train to bump into. But when the car goes into the future, the rack and tires are missing. Then there is docs kid on Docs time train in the background waving Jennifer to come to him and points to his pants.

  • Here's another "goof". You see that the tender of the engine is full of wood. When wood burns it produces white/grey smoke and yet at 2:44 the smoke is black.

  • i agree with trunksGav above except that there was plenty of time for clara to take off her gloves for whatever reason before she left the train. one thing that could be true is that they would have to shout in the conductors' ears to be heard in the cab of that train.

  • in goof 1 there is another mistake which you didn't mention, in the scene where marty says hi ho silver and changes gear you can see the time circuits have a number for the month instead of the the actual month

  • theres a goof in part one where the delorian goes back in time with einstiene in it the fire trails go throgh doc and martys legs but when the camera moves the fire trails arent going through docs legs

  • I thought it was about marty puting second gear.

  • the part where it is at 88 mph and not time travelling i think could signify that since the replacement parts dont work the same as the old ones, but then again, why would doc send marty towards a screen not even knowing that the time circuits work again.

  • These are pretty weak goofs, how about the indian/delorean sequence showing that the delorean was in different positions during different shootings and then edited together later..that's a glaring one.

  • its movie magic

  • Can someone explain what was wrong with Doc putting his hand on Marty`s shoulder?

  • @kathykisslight you didnt pay attention to the text, Doc puts his hand on his shoulder, then it cuts and Doc's hand is on his arm

  • @kathykisslight nothing that I could see :)

  • thats being a bit picky dont you think..

  • My opinion on #1;

-the scene was trying to show either that =

    A) the time machine is 70 years old and is malfunctioning , or/and

    B) the 1955 time circuit control vacuum tubes that Doc installed on the hood box are slower and less responsive than the burnt out microchip they replaced.

-look at how much strain and resistance the Delorean is encountering trying to break the time barrier! flames, sparks, etc, not present in earlier in the trilogy.

  • The car HAD to get up to 88 before it could travel through time...Clara could have easily pulled her glove off, and Doc could have grabbed an engineer's extra hat sitting in the cab.

  • you're a loser

  • No, the time circuit shows where the car was set to go, not where it is now.

  • "hey Doc, I'd better back up, I don't even have enough road to get up to 88."

"roads? where you're going you don't HAVE roads!"

  • @chrisohummer they have roads it's just mot NEEDed 'cause you can be on the road OR in the sky :>(

  • @kvnfln9000 hey, I was talking about the trip to 1885. and since Marty's not near a road anywhere I thought of what I've written. OK?

  • Because of the time circut rebuilt after the delorean got struck by lightning maybe it just took time for the time circuts to actually catch up with the "88 MPH". Goof 2 is lodical. As for goof 3 I have no idea maybe when she pulled the brake she took them off? Goof 4 he probably found another conducter hat lying around somewhere inside the train. That's my opinion on all of the goofs. But anyway's good video.

  • The only one I thought was a goof was where Doc puts his hand on Marty's shoulder. The others weren't really goofs. Like the hat switch, you see Doc take his hat off and reach for something. Then when it switchs back to him, he's wearing the engineer's hat.

  • Pretty much valid, though some could be explained away. Maybe because of the age and damage of the time machine, there was a mechanical delay in initiating the travel back to 1885. As for the gloves...well, she could have removed them before exiting the train (though why she'd to that when she was in such a hurry is beyond me).

  • in 1885 there are 2 delorians the one doc came in buried in mine shaft and martys that is in a cave, why don't they use parts from both to make one working one ??

  • @vcval they just needed fuel. When you store a car you drain the fuel. thats bob gales explanation.

  • I LOVE BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III DEAR MRAY

  • I LOVE BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III

  • Well the part where the Delorean hits 88 mph before it goes back in time can be explained because of a microchip had to be rebuilt but with 50s technology which delayed the temporal displacement.
