  • *Gasp* I love your horse!!! Is he a paint or a QH? Or something totally different?? He's gorgeous!! You're a beautiful rider...I'm jealous!

  • Beautiful job!

  • Yea i do hunt seat Equitation and you just have to be very propor

  • Im sorry about the immature comment i made a while ago. I was a little brat 8 months ago i guess? LOL. I know how I would feel if someone insulted my horse like that. So I apoligize. I just get annoyed when people ride western pleasure horses in an english pleasure class. I don't know why it's really none of my buisness what people do with their horses. Well I'm sorry and I hope you accept my apology.

  • @jennamichelle83 thats very big of you ^.^ I'm glad you can apologize to the poster like that :)

This horse is the prime hunter- and if you rode/showed in this world, you would see some huge differences between him and a WP horse! It's just the style, just like dressage horses have a certain carriage, and pony hunters have a different one as well. Even Morgan hunters have a different carriage! It ranges pretty widely :)

  • @ShowJumperHunter1 Thank you so much!

  • What is the difference between hunt seat equitation and just normal english equitation? Are there other types too?

  • @Anomaly003 Sorry for the tardy response. Just now checking my comments.

There should be no difference between hunt seat eq. and english eq. They should both be ridden exactly the same. THAT SAID, there is a HUGE difference between breed show equitation and USEF eq. Breed show people sit up and back (too far back, IMO). USEF people tip forward--ostensibly to get up and off the horse's back to help with jumping. Also, breed show people do a pattern, and it's slooow. Confused yet?

  • Actually there is a huge difference in equitation between huntseat, dressage, and saddleseat, all of which are considered English disciplines. I think you horse looks lovely and is carrying his head correctly for a horse of his build. It's refreshing to see after being exposed to breed shows where horses drag their noses on the ground in "English" classes.

  • get an english horse!!! that is so a western walk trot and canter!!!! wats wrong with u!!!???

  • @jennamichelle83 ==get and English horse== No thanks!! I absolutely LOVE my baby boy. As far as what's wrong with me. Well, many people have tried--and failed--to figure that out and so I'm sorry: I can't answer that question. LOL.

  • @Dspammsters Oh He is a beautiful horse. u r lucky to have him:) but still u r in the wrong class

  • @jennamichelle83- Are you kidding me? Western is literly barley moving. I was walking my hunt seat horse while a western horse was loping, and we were passing them. This is great speed for Hunter under saddle, and huntet Seat Equtation. And you dont just tell someone " Whats wrong with you, get a new horse" If I comment on your video saying, Your horse sucks, he looks like a ugly peice of crap, im sure you wouldnt like it!

  • @rabbitboy56 I apologized a while ago. I understand what I said was wrong and very insulting. I know I would not like someone insulting me and my horse. It would really hurt my feelings, and for her to give a positive answer to an insult like that was very mature of her, and I do see what you're saying that is NOT a western pleasure moving horse and it is a good speed. I was a little brat 11 months ago. I know it was terribly rude to tell her that.

  • @jennamichelle83 she is doing hunt seat which is a form of english riding where the horse must hold its head low and use minimal effort to bend their knees, covering as much ground in each stride as possible. yes, it looks similar to western gaits, but believe me i've been doing hunt seat since i was six and this is definitely english, rider AND horse.

  • Very nice horse, although I know little to nothing about hunt seat.. more of an equitation/hunter rider myself.

I just love the way he carrys himself.

  • try and sit up straiter i noitesd tht u were leaning forward a lil bit....how many years have u been showing? iv been showing for 3

  • What you're seeing is the difference between a "breed show" seat and an "open hunter" seat. We were showing under an open hunter judge and so I rode a little more forward that day (but only a little b/c this is STILL way breed show-ish). At a rated hunter show I would be even MORE forward, and in half-seat in under saddle classes.

I've been showing for thirty-plus years. Ooi. That makes me sound SO old:)

  • Your horse looks a little western, but thats cool.

  • LOL, it's called WENGLISH, doncha know? :)

  • wenglish

thank you i have been trying to get ppl to realize its real forever now. my western horse is a little huntery

  • Yup. That's me:) I need to post a more current video. He's going MUCH better now, although it took me until yesterday to figure out what I was doing wrong. Seriously, I was at a schooling show and I swear the lightbulb went off over his head. He was soooo consistent. Lack of consitency was KILLING us at QH shows. I'm hopeful we've had a breakthrough. Now I'm excited about my next QH show. Can't wait to see how he does:) (and if he keeps his darn head down!)

  • omgsh, you're the one who wrote how you went from H/J to AQHA? My mom and i lovee your articles! they crack us up! but, watch his head when you canter, get it down lower. anyways, good job!

  • Wow! great job! you have very nice subtle cues! I didn't even see your cue to canter!

  • Ooo, that's so funny! I'm trying my hand out at western pleasure now. We're twins.

Really, the english pleasure (at QH shows) is a lot like the western pleasure. I know I'm going to get blasted for saying that, but it's true. There's just more impulsion invovled in riding English. Not speed, because that's different, but a bigger, more forward stride. Your horse's head should come up a bit more, too, but I'm finding the "drape" is very similar.

  • oh i know what you mean about the qh shows. It drives me crazy.

  • my friend reccomend that i pick up english pleasure..but heres the thing....i ride western...any advice on how to get started?

    Thanks!

  • you look great out there! Im going to my first show ever but im doing walk, trot, canter, and crossrails so yea i can't wait im rideing on a TB dappled grey gelding nemed Peg. I was going to ride a TB mare named Anna Chippy [i call her Chip] But then her leg got broken :'[ so yea but i still can't wait!

  • Ooo! Good luck with that. I know how scary it is to take the plunge.

I have a dappled grey gelding, too. Aren't they just the prettiest things?

  • you look great yea your legs were swinging a little bit but thats beside the point you horse is pretty my trainer makes me ride without my irons

  • congtats on the first! I love your horse, he's just so calm and relaxed. wish mine was like that. =P

  • Thanks so much for your kind words. It's always nice to read positive comments:)

He's not always so easy to ride, though. Every once in a while he checks out on me--refusing to put his head down. I don't know what sets him off, but we had a bad ride in Reno, NV this past weekend. BOMBED the class. I'll try to post the video so you can have a good laugh. My horse turned into a giraffe and I looked like Dumbo my leg was so far off of him. (I panicked!)

    Hugs,

    Pam

  • Yeah, I know...my leg's floppin' around like a dead fish. Need to ride without my irons for the next ten years. Watching that video explains why he gets a little flat from time to time, too.

Weird to see Bips going more like an open hunter. Strange, but NICE. I wasn't sure he would remember how to do it, but he's such a smart little cookie.
