I think this movie was took ten years to make it from script to movie. I really wanted to see it in the theater as a kid but hardly any movie theaters picked it up. I loved the downer ending which gave a realistic vibe to the movie itself although most people who screened the movie hated the ending. (Most '80s audiences had to have a feel good ending ie. "Little shop of horrors")
@mr bummelum, i really enjoyed your review and love the idea of undiscovered gems, u have given the name of this clip forgotten movie gems 1, so is there others or did you only ever make one? you should keep it up, great voice for it and good comments
after finished watching this film i thought WHAT A UNIQUE MOVIE. really very different thriller/drama where you never know what happens or what it is even all about. with great atmosphere also thanks to the spectacular great soundtrack.
i just wish there were more "special" kinda movies like this. i havent seen anything THAT intriguing and suspenseful ever since. it really creates something unique
@torstn i dont think it was a "sad" movie like some people write, just rather intriguing, and that theres no happy end just fits perfectly with the style the movie has
After 17 years, I have finally found this movie again! At the age of 9 when I saw this film, It left such an imprint in me about the threat of nuclear danger, that it is still with me today, albeit in a more rational form. The ending though is what floored me. I was inconsolable for the next 2 moths after-wards. And to this day, is so impacting that I get depressed just thinking about it. It is a testament to how well made this film is. Terribly underrated, but a screen gem nonetheless. 5 stars.
@Lurkerwraith I saw this film when I was 17... I remember watching this with my girlfriend... then I realized life is too short... so I asked her to marry me... and here we are... happily married... after 20 years...
@joshuadguez Congrats to both you and the missus! And again, it just serves to illustrate what a lasting impact a well made movie can have on an individual. I remember when the first Matrix came out my buddy got into a fight and was subsequently hospitalized due to his disillusion having seen Neo perform his amazing feats. I'm thinking of showing this movie to my cousin, in hopes that it will more or less have the same effect on her as it did on you, and motivate her to enjoy life more!
I thought this was an underrated movie and deserved more attention then it got. To be honest I didn't think the characters really had a chance because it sounded like an end of the world type deal, but it makes it all the more moving.
i saw this movie when i was 3 years old (my dad rented it), for years i didnt know if it was a real movie or if it was a dream i had. i was so happy when i discovered it was a real movie. one of my favorites!
A better movie than anything Roland Emmerich's put out.

Last night I had a dream about escaping a nuclear holocaust I was warned about just hours before it happened. Then I remembered this movie. Weird...

Forgotten how hot Denise Crosby looked back then, one of very few non-Trekkie appearances...

This IS a good movie, and actually had the balls to end in a way that defies most movies that came out then AND now.
