  • @bubblegumm27 Thanks so much for dropping by. Listen until you can sing this. Then playing will come naturally!

  • This is absolutely lovely. The song itself almost makes me misty-eyed, and your rendition is hauntingly beautiful.

  • @TheKiffles Thanks very much . . . you made my morning!

  • Comparing La Boheme to Rent is like comparing Pavarotti's singing to that of Bugs Bunny's. Its insane!

  • @Matthewcoakley08 yeah I'm sorry, as much as I LOVE rent, it's not the same, by any means

  • @Matthewcoakley08 But...but... Rent was based on La Boheme

  • @Matthewcoakley08 TeeHee!

  • 4 people havent seen rent.

  • @volleyball994pimp And probably more than that haven't seen La Boheme! Peace!

  • this is so beautiful! I now understand the connection to the joke in rent "and it sounds bit like musetta's waltz" or something to that affect. this is beautiful! it's inspired me to continue playing piano...wow!

  • Where is the "love" button! Great work my man. :)

  • Excellent, well done. One of the most wonderful arias of all time, and you played it magnificently.

  • @TheBroadwaywannabe Thanks so much . . . This was actually originally a piano piece!

  • @orionedwin *cough* epic fail on my part. I suppose my pretension from the other comments made on this video caught up to me. Eh. Karma. I think I was vaguely aware of this fact in the back of my mind, but I’m not entirely sure. My brain is kinda taken over/clouded by it currently- I'm singing it in less than a week at a solo competition and have yet to practice it more than a few times nor fully learn the Italian. So I’ve kind of overdosed on hearing it as an aria. I apologize. Still, great job

  • @TheBroadwaywannabe Thanks for your kind words! And post your version as soon as you can . . . I would LOVE to hear it!

  • Isn't this based on that song from rent?

  • @QuietReckoning Hi there and thanks for your comment . . . Actually the Rent song was based on this piano composition that the composer adapted for his opera "La Boheme."

  • @orionedwin I was kidding. I love Puccini. You're a pretty good pianist. I'll be watching.

  • @QuietReckoning I just died a little inside.

  • Ehhh... just love it! Dynamics, everything!!

  • @sepulka01 Thanks so much . . . Drop in anytime!

  • You're not simply a musician - you're also an entertainer. Very enjoyable to see and hear!

  • @moonkeeps Thanks so very much . . . you made my evening!

  • especially like the later part of the music, which tends to be overlooked for the first part. not bad on the piano....

  • @annainloved It was actually first written for piano . . . Thanks a lot!

  • Incredible performance; you have great talent! One of my favorite classical pieces. I'm actually working on a guitar rendition for this song.

  • @unclerico86 GREAT! I can hardly wait to hear your transcription!

  • Juicy song, played well, but your physical movements are enough to make anyone dislocate all of there joints and slice off there own testicles.

  • @chipmunkjohn Maybe you . . . Sorry to hear that!

  • @chipmunkjohn Well gee thanks!

  • you are extremely talented! wonderful job! i keep listening to this over and over again. bravo (:

  • @MarissaRenaldi It is a real pleasure performing for you . . . thanks for dropping in and thanks for your kind words!

  • Sentimentality, the melodramatic -- concepts usually held in disdain, EXCEPT at the hand of Puccini, who used them as beautiful colors on an artist's pallet. Great cover. The piano is such a magnificent instrument; another great surprise as well: who'd expect the king of instruments to be percussion; it's extreme tonality in the genre usually ascribed to a monotonic drum.

  • @paulhallart Aaaah the piano . . . Well Debussy asked that the piano be played as if it had no hammers! What's interesting in the case of Musetta's Waltz is that Puccini wrote this as a piano piece, while fishing! He only adapted it to La Boheme two years later! Thanks for dropping in with your interesting observations.

  • @orionedwin a propos the Debussy concept: I actually invented a percussionless piano. Claude would have gotten his wish: the cybernetic keyboard. It makes sense that Puccini might have conceived of this music while fishing, it's been my experience that the Universe itself has a role to play with human beings and music. It's odd that the concert hall has tended to dampen our awareness of that possibility in that one often tends to feel that the communication goes no further than it's walls.

  • @paulhallart I often close my eyes when listening (except during operas or ballets of course!)

  • @orionedwin I tried closing eyes, but it must be the a.d.d. -- didn't work so well, but then I used to do artwork while listening, often getting pictures painted that portrayed the future. Then, oddly, driving seemed to lend itself to the phenomenon. It was almost as if maintained velocity was part of the music, transforming one to some other dimension.

  • @paulhallart IU believe that all art can be an inspiration for other forms of artistry. It is interesting that you have witnessed the melding of music and speed . . . I remember once reaching 90MPH in a beat up old Honda Civic while listening to Freebird!

  • A bittersweet, evocative song. ^_^

  • @SlightlySaracstic "Thanks for dropping by!

  • yes i performed in that opera as a child. I was one of the papino kids or whtever. eco papinou papinou papinou

  • @DogilogVideo That must have been so exciting! Glad you dropped in . . . What do you remember most from that production?

  • Beautiful. :D

  • Thanks so very much!

  • Manly playing

  • Thanks a lot . . . the testosterone was really flowing for this one!

  • man this reminds me of Rent

  • Yes, only Rent ripped this off. This was written around 1900. Thanks for dropping in!

  • they did not rip it off Roger just did a tribute to it

  • That's right. They acknowledge it during "La Vie Boheme." Mark says (about the upcoming year): "And Roger will attempt to write a bittersweet, evocative song... that doesn't remind us of "Musetta's Waltz." The point is that Roger has had writer's block. That's why he keeps strumming the first few bars of "Musetta's Waltz." To derive inspiration. Besides, RENT is based on LA VIE BOHEME, anyway, so I'm sure Larson intended it as a tribute.

  • No, La Vie Boheme is the song. The opera Rent is based on is only called La Boheme. Awesome opera :)

  • Yeah, i meant to say LA BOHEME at the end there. Thanks. :-)

  • @spongeruss1 RENT was actually, albeit, 'loosely', based upon Puccini’s very renowned, classic opera, La Boheme. Maureen's character is based upon Puccini’s original Musetta, who sings a lovely aria entitled Musetta's Waltz. The lyrics, when translated, prove at least mildly similar to Take Me Or Leave Me, with mentions of "Being stared at as I walk down the street" etc. Jonathon Larson interpreted some of the original melody of the aria into his show, likely because he was fond of it.

  • to orionedwin--your comment is so funny! I learned last night that I have to sing a dopey parody of this in a comic play, and a brainless kid said, "It's from Rent!" I heroically refrained from telling her that it had a life before rent. Oi. Your playing is madly beautiful, by the way.

  • Thanks . . . Now I'm madly blushing!

  • Beautiful! Thank you!!

  • Thanks for dropping by . . . It's a pleasure to have you over!

  • It's from Puccini's LA BOHEME, which is what RENT is based on.

  • And originally a piano piece Puccini wrote while FISHING!

  • beautiful beautiful thank you for posting
