  • Fu@#&n awsome. Rock n roll would not have the same edge without The Animals. I so thankful for growing when all these great bands were fresh in their careers.

  • Just no.

  • Eric Burdon is butchering this song. The original is so much better.

  • Eric Burdon invented Cool. He is the master of cool to this day! : ) is he cool, my oh my, Yes!

  • The voice is the same, still strong. same can be said for Tom Jones.

  • its a jazz ver

  • ,,mm

  • still sounds great

  • How out of tune and SHITTY can you play a guitar solo and ruin a tune. What a pile of shit compared to the original. Listen back to the original at 2:48. The origination of the English guitar sound, i.e. Mick Taylor, etc.

  • @paupur Eric sings about as good as Ringo does. Sorry, but even on the origional hes out of key. Love the song tho...

  • Wow! Pretty good live version of this song. Nice to hear him still belting em out. I was a teenager when Sky Pilot came out. Hearing this song still brings those dark clouds back. I had friends who died in the Vietnam war.

  • The song is about the dilemma faced by the armed forces chaplain(sky pilot). He is faced with the problem of trying to give encouragement to soldiers whose job it is to kill, while he must live with his credo of "Thou shalt not kill". It was powerful then and it still is. Real life stuff.

  • He owns this song and he can do what he wants with it..... He is a soldier and he survived where as others did not that were around him... I would back off any smart ass comments in regard to his age looks or performance..Listen to the original if you want and it is great.. When you found a radio station that was williing to play the full version you should be able to distinguish as Great Song and the engineering as well can I get an AMEN

  • LOVE YOU ERIC!!!!!

  • that guitar players a little, i dunno.......out of tune or something.

somethin not quite right. maybe its just me.

nice little hendrix bit at 4:28.

    Eric is brilliant as usual.

  • Err? It is his song, it evolves as he does. A song is not a time stamp it is a birth and then it grows, as Eric does, it has matured. Bravo! Eric you are still an Animal.

  • happy birthday eric!

  • To Bill Keirnan: One day you will be old with no memories but negative comments!

  • Eric is in his golden years, but for that age he still sounds fantastic. He is a legend. His voice range has changed accordingly, still sends an impact. Its all good.

  • ¡¡¡My great idol when I was a little child...!!! Who is the bass-girl?

  • ¡¡¡My great idol when I was a little child...!!!

  • My boy is in Afgan, 101st Air born. He survived 3 IEDs. Have played this song so so many time since it's release, over the years. It's meaning is the same but now realy personal. Like Eric we all change as each second ticks on the clock, he did great. Pray for peace!

  • @cromeans1 Praying for him and 101st Airborne! I was there as Canadian Task Force Chaplain supporting all troops in and out of wire! They need someone with a different perspective to provide support because war traumatizes! God grant us peace!

PadreMDB (P.S. It's a mis representation of the text "THOU SHALT DO NO MURDER" - not 'KILL')

"Sky Pilot" fut la chanson favorite des GIs au Vietnam, tout comme "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place"...

  • it's just not the same seeing these kinds of bands when they're in geriatric mode like this.

  • @BillKiernan, Eric has been around musically for more than 45 years, without those 45 years we would not have been blessed with the great catalogue of music which has graced the world, he is a vast contributor to the history of rock n roll & he is what he is today & he is still great, a voice which has grown to be deeper & richer & with current band's who compliment him, he has left his mark whether it be 1960's or 2000's, he remains one of the greatest frontmen of blues/rock n roll - ever.

  • @magusmagic2 agreed, he just sounds like shit now. it's just biology, his voice isn't what it was, not his fault.

  • @BillKiernan NO! voices change over the years, I think he still sounds as great as he ever was.

  • @magusmagic2 that's cool. such things are subjective. regardless, i agree with you the man is musical genius and a legendary vocalist.

  • @BillKiernan Dude, I just saw him today and I was stunned. He was amazing. I got the chills when I heard him, age is just a number.

  • @nisto95 fair enough.

  • @magusmagic2

thats what i thought after i thougt about it, thumbs up

  • @magusmagic2 AMEN brother. I could not have said it better. Must be a misguided younster. I thank my lucky stars that the real rock icons can still sing. Why is it ok to see a 70+ yr old country star play forever and people bitch about the old rockers. His voice is as good as it was in 1964. Now some guys voices are all blown out. But the vast majority of them can still bring it night in and night out.

  • @BillKiernan haha..but a very strong sexy voice and its actually nice to see bands who last this long...too bad other band members hold grudges and don't give the geriatric mode a chance

  • Raw talent , the likes of that will probably not be seen again, the US is so lucky to have this guy . Cody AU

  • This song kinda falls apart in the middle...Hope the original is better...

  • @YukonRoxx Listen to the original and you will see the difference.

  • hey eric what happened to your hair style? let it grow back and dye it you'll look great.

  • For some strange reason Eric reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield here..

  • This is a great anti-war song about religious hypocrisy.

  • sure as hell smoked many a doobie to Eric Burton in the 60's . I dug him as much as the Beatles , cause he was/is real ..I think he's Great

  • Bit flat bro .. but still good

  • Love this version! Great vignettes and references woven into it from their many decades of pure mastery. Great musicians.

  • Who else thinks EB and Meatloaf should duke it out in the octagon?

  • Thanks, it was great to see this

  • The keyboardist and drummer. Are they by any chance the original group members? Impressive if so, regarding the reasons they broke up. I do like this song though. The Animals are legendary.

  • @Icecream8451 Eric is the only original Animal in this clip.John Steel was the original drummer and still has his own line up on the road,Alan Price original keyboards still plays gigs.Chas Chandler sadly died,Hilton Valentine lives and plays in the usa

  • @Icecream8451 I doubt if Alan Price, the original Animals keyboardist, ever got back with Eric Burdon after the former took all the songwriting royalties for "House Of The Rising Sun" even though it was a collaborative effort from all the original band members. Apparently EB and the others were very pi_ ssed -off with AP. Not sure about the drummer.

  • @TheLeadingIndicators So quick to judge......... Maybe or Maybe Not........... Are tou?

  • For u Bro...

  • I was there!!!

  • Its champion to see he's still performing - but why is he doing it like a nursery rhyme? He must remember the original emotion?

  • @butterworthpa

My guess is he's still got what it takes to put the original subtle power into it, but since he is in his august years needs to show he can deliver the punch. And deliver it in spades he does! Hope I have one tenth the power he does at that age.

  • This is metal in my ears!!

  • Somebody's voice is flat .

  • Finaly get to see this guy! 1/23/2010

  • At the Emerald Queen Casino. Can you make some vids??

  • i remember to buddy over and over and over.

  • I remember this when I was a kid in the late 60s I have the original on cd

  • thats impressive was it the first cd ever made

  • hes alittle off wit the tamberin but i love eric burdon

  • Eric sounds like he is still 25 ,now an short -haired and overfed gnome fantastic!

  • Part Three: Other voices, such as Roger Daltrey of The Who, who's voice has been tremendous for many years, is finally starting to sound a little weak (and I never thought that would happen). Eric's voice is better than all of them. Thank you Mr. Burdon for a GREAT concert and for more than forty-five years of outstanding music.

  • Youre the man. Thx for the great comments!

  • Part Two: I'm amazed at the tonal quality and strength of his voice. He still sounds like he used to when he was young, compared with other rock singers' voices that either sound weak or different from when they were younger. Some of the great rock voices, such as Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Steve Walsh (Kansas), and Robert Plant (Led Zepplin) were blown out in the eighties.

  • Part One: I just saw Eric last night (9-13-09) at the American Music Theater in Lancaster, Pa. Wow! He really put on a great show! His voice is stronger now than it was when he was younger. It seemed that he really didn't need for his voice to be miked because it seemed like it could have filled the hall without it. I would say that his voice at 68 is one of the few rock voices that have withstood the ravages of time.

  • holy shit he looks like he aged about 40 years between 1998 and 2006

  • Wow Burdon, just Wow.

  • но векикий дед!

  • дедушка...

  • I love this guy but I wish he'd sing and not " LOU REED" the song.. what a disappointment.

  • sky pilot never in the moon

  • Love ya Eric! Keep on Rocking!

  • This song is fuckin awesome, sounds good every version you hear, just like knockin on heavens door does!!!!

  • This song is fucin awesome.........Every version I hear of it sounds good. Just like knocking on heavens door is good from every angle.

  • i always liked his music as a kid. now 40yrs later i still love it. ive got some of his music still on vinyl, and ive got all his greatesr hits on cd. hes a legend!! tony prov

  • his sorta off key singing makes it more EPIC!

btw, chick bass players are so HOT!

  • Now I know what Eric's been doing all these years -- eating.

  • Great job Eric. Great Job.

  • Timeless lyrics on the senslessness of war. Love Ya Eric! Named my dog --Meet Skylar Pilot Twain.

  • Eric always sounding good.

  • 4:40 - 4:48 ...is that bach cello suite no.1?? i can't figure out what the hell that little diddy is...

  • Eric's voice was a little off in the original 60's version too, but that's what makes this so pure. Love it!

  • era a lugano e io nn lo sapevo??!!?

  • I wish I was a Pilot. then!

  • Eric Burdon is the man...Always keep young at heart Eric. I play this song real loud as I piss around Houston, Texas in my daughters car. Still luv it after so many years. Stop the WAR in Afganistan and Pakistan NOW !!!

  • Thanks, Eric...kept me from going to Viet Nam.

  • OR ANY OTHER WAR!

  • all vietnam vets know this isn't about their war. wwii

  • Sure...about WWII but the message is still the same. War sucks...especially when instigated under false premises. Viet Nam was my generation's war. Same wasted results, same excuses, same lies by the government.

  • Eric Burdon is the man, nice version not the best

    he did but it`s okej

  • this song is awesome and how awfully off he is when he is saying skyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is what makes it so epic

  • The lyrics. One of the greatest songs ever made...

  • I was about 10 when this came out and I remember having the 45 lp. As soon as side one was over I quickly flipped it to side 2--what a pain in the butt! Great song!

  • Awesome, one of my favorite songs and he still sings it great!
