The thing I disklike about Rilo Kiley is that Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett are such over-dramatic hams. It gets tiresome. They make some great music when they focus on the music rather than their images.

Once in a while Jenny Lewis will drop a curse word in a song, and you get the feeling that she thinks it makes her very cool and dangerous; it's a bit ridiculous. She sometimes ruins otherwise wonderful songs with a kitschy phrase or over-the-top delivery.

I do think she's beautiful, though!

I should add as a side note to my comment below, I know the awful, sinking feeling of watching your favorite band totally sell out, and I can understand the long-time fans feeling this album was too mainstream. Truthfully, though, they're still unique. The songwriting is still there. Just a different sound. The majority of people I know would still throw RK out the window because it isn't loud enough. Her lyrics have always been striking, and if those tank, I'll be worried. I doubt it'll happen.

I never cared for Rilo Kiley up until recently. Listened to their albums from first to last in order. Each one was different...Under the Blacklight was definitely a jump. It DOES sound more mainstream, but it's not like each song has to be some totally original piece of indie art. Of course they pull from other artists...everyone does. >_> The album was great! So were the older ones! Jenny's said they'd try a bit of everything, and if they didn't, they'd be like U2. This was just more produced.
