Humans made gods because we didnt know why it rained ,we didnt know why we died ,we didnt know what was above or what was below or where we came from . That was thousands of years ago . We now have answers to all these questions and we still cling to our old beliefs . Why? A belief in an all powerful savior in the sky is detrimental to our future ,though it helped us get through our past , because this planet is alive it gave us life not a god . I don't like Bill Maher. I'm an atheist myself, but he doesn't seem to actually understand where religious people are coming from. He seems to assume that he's superior to them, its like he's a parent lecturing a child and he comes across as a dick. I don't know what he was trying to accomplish with this movie, it seems to be a roundabout way of saying "religious people are stupid" which is not a generalisation anyone should make, let alone somone who claims to have the intellectual high ground.

Yeah... I think everyone needs to see this whole movie. The whole movie is very eye-opening! You edited a lot to make it look like Bill Maher was owned, but you never post his points. Like that last bit, with Jesus: The steam, liquid and ice... Bill says more about that. You're editing was very anti-Religulous.
"Grow up, or die." It' actually a little staggered by the profundity of that. It sounds flippant, but fuckin' hell... if it isn't the most important sentiment for the world at the moment...
Religulous was meant to be entertaining & it was. The "Abrahamic" religions (and recent swindles like Scientology and Mormonism) really come up for some skewering - but in fairness, to examine these religions at all is to mock at them; they're intrinsically ridiculous.
But the film barely touches on religions like Buddhism - and Buddhism is at core rationalistic, practical, non-dogmatic, even atheistic. The criticisms that destroy Christianity simply don't apply.
If people start to believe that our minds are being controlled (Illuminati) all the pieces will start to fit together. pick up a Quantum mechanics book and read, and if you don't understand what it says get help from youtube. You may find the particle/wave duality principle very interesting and what it implies. also Read john Cramers Transactional interpretation you'll find what that implies very interesting as well. The churches have scientists researching for the truth, so why not you?
I haven't seen the movie yet, but from watching various clips online I can already tell that this is a well done movie and he is a smart man, but just because he makes a movie about "religious" people, doesn't mean that there isn't an almighty God. There are too many unexplainable things in this world to not believe in God. With my own eyes I have seen people that couldn't stand, rise up and walk in the name of Jesus. People are so quick to believe in ghosts and evil things, but not in God.
@psalms36 - Religulous is a great movie but probably moreso to an atheist than to a Christian or "believer". There have been unexplainable things in the past that are now explained...science can explain more every day. Science is a rational, tested approach where faith is not. I do not believe in God, nor do I believe in ghosts or evil of any kind. The possiblility of God exists, but I have not seen any evidence to convince me of this. This movie is funny, informative, and true.
The guy right at the end of the clip, at Oxford Circus in London, is always coming to music gigs in places like Brixton and Wembley Stadium, and preaching to the people in the queues! I know coz I've been preached to by him!

I think the movie had its heart in the right place, and i suppose its superficially entertaining and very good that it was as popular as it was. But as far as documentaries about religion i think Jesus Camp takes gold.

no, go ask your biology teacher or read a book, obviously we have adapted and rationalized and clearly that has made our lives more convenient, but we are not the only animals that know how to adapt, as you can clearly see, because if it all depends on how we rationalize, then sloths and iguanas, etc. wouldn't be here today; it all depends on the environment and the strongest link would mean the animals who can withstand the current environment; weakest can not.
evolution isnt a theory, the fact that people have started to become immune to penacillin because of its over use, the fact that a virus can mutate, both are proof. its insane to think otherwise. it blows my mind that they are even considering teaching creation in schools.
If you knew anything about evolution you would know that evolution IS a theory, just like gravity is a theory and so are atoms. They are all theories. A theory is simply an explanation for observed natural phenomenon. But they are also considered fact because the evidence supporting them is overwhelming.

penicillin is designed to combat harmful bacteria. but bacteria has the ability to mutate overtime, just like animals and plants have for millions of years. therefore, in recent years, penicillin has started to become less effective, because the bacteria and diseases it is designed to combat, have mutated to that it no longer effects them.

plus it is "over time", not "overtime". without the spaces, "overtime" means "time in excess of a set limit", like bacteria are mutating beyond their normal working hours :-)

Religulous was meant to be entertaining & it was. The "Abrahamic" religions (and recent swindles like Scientology and Mormonism) really come up for some skewering - but in fairness, to examine these religions at all is to mock at them; they're intrinsically ridiculous.
But the film barely touches on religions like Buddhism - and Buddhism is at core rationalistic, practical, non-dogmatic, even atheistic. The criticisms that destroy Christianity simply don't apply.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but from watching various clips online I can already tell that this is a well done movie and he is a smart man, but just because he makes a movie about "religious" people, doesn't mean that there isn't an almighty God. There are too many unexplainable things in this world to not believe in God. With my own eyes I have seen people that couldn't stand, rise up and walk in the name of Jesus. People are so quick to believe in ghosts and evil things, but not in God.

There have been unexplainable things in the past that are now explained...science can explain more every day. Science is a rational, tested approach where faith is not. I do not believe in God, nor do I believe in ghosts or evil of any kind. The possiblility of God exists, but I have not seen any evidence to convince me of this. This movie is funny, informative, and true.

If you knew anything about evolution you would know that evolution IS a theory, just like gravity is a theory and so are atoms. They are all theories. A theory is simply an explanation for observed natural phenomenon. But they are also considered fact because the evidence supporting them is overwhelming.

penicillin is designed to combat harmful bacteria. but bacteria has the ability to mutate overtime, just like animals and plants have for millions of years. therefore, in recent years, penicillin has started to become less effective, because the bacteria and diseases it is designed to combat, have mutated to that it no longer effects them.

rainin, humans are way above importance than other animals. The only reason they can't do anything wrong is because they're programmed to only act on instinct like machines. An animal cannot stray from it's instincts even one little bit. Humans are given this ability which makes them answerable for their actions. They can therefore be judged and punished because they KNOW when they're doing 'wrong'. An animal cannot do 'wrong', nor can an animal have a soul. Knowing shame comes from the soul.

rainin, God Himself has described Himself as the "Unknowable Essence"; but He also said that He would reveal those aspects of Himself to us that He felt would benefit us in our imposed destiny of reaching the perfecting of our souls in preparation for the world after physical death.
