The two guys who wrote Puppet on a String wrote this. One of 'em knew Alf Ramsey's no-account brother, who he knew the England manager was ashamed of, so he goes and sees him about getting his blessing to do the song. Ramsey gave him short shrift, until the guy says something like, "you're brother was alot more friendly when I last saw him in some gutter somewhere," at which AR said he could go ahead as long as he, Ramsey, had nothing to do with it.
