  • like this a lot, reminds me of a time when Britain had a bit of Great about it

  • ok alot of people are commenting on how its bad quality and a disgraceful picture but this was the first video with this song on youtube so its better than nothing and i was 11 when i uploaded this so i thought it was a cool picture because im of the younger generation

  • awful video....it brings the song, the three lions and the country into disrepute. Very bad image and even worse audio. ENGLAND EXPECTS BETTER THAN THIS

  • fuck me i remember this from when i was 10 years old.......v sad that i'll never be alive to see a world cup in my own country, and that;s thanks to blatter, warner, bin hamman and all the other theiving, money grabbing cunts that run the football world nowadays!!!!The FIFA family, corrupt, insular, incestuous bunch of lowlife leeches, who bleed the game of football to within an inch of it's being........absolute wrong'uns....

  • Check out the book 'England's World Cup Adventures Since 1945, A Complete Record' by Talented Loser.

  • Hey...you know that pick of Rooney holding the head...it's been touched up since but I did the original. A bloke I know posted it on 420.com and it ended up in the Daily Mirror! They said it was sick and when I emailed to ask what I'd be getting paid after they used my image...they ignored me lol....thought as much.

  • im from Ireland but grew up in England and also love this song... although I would be biased as my Dad Phil & a Scotsman Bill wrote this song :) I just wish I had been around when on the very day that the squad were flying out to Mexico both the album and the single BACK HOME were number one in the charts, ....would have loved to have been at the celebrations for that!!

  • the engand team nowadays give a bad name to bobby moore and the immortals

  • this song was correct. england are back home. :)

  • WATCH ENGLAND WILL WIN IT AGAIN, by THE CLONED....GREAT SONG & VIDEO

  • the song that won best England world cup song 2010 is called Come on England lets all stand together. But this is my favourite !

  • I still have the album they made. The joy of listening to Emlyn Hughes and Alan Ball duet on 'Make Me an Island" is unsurpassed. Not many humans can actually hear them, but the dogs in our street love it.

  • @lumbago12 Hahahaha funny!! :)

  • maradonnas head on the flag i wish

  • was there a war on? lol

  • Back Home brings back memories! Let's hope we can emulate 1966 this year.

  • @Peterthegooner do you write for the sun?

  • a blast from the past love it

  • TAKES ME BACK..damn 2 up against the germans and lose...THIS TIME...omg another cup song

  • Catchy old tune, apparantly it was number 1 in the UK charts for 18 weeks.

  • This record was played on BBC's Pick of the Pops last Saturday.

I recall it well, and the squad sound so upbeat when singing. Very sadly though, it reminds me of that awful day in Leon.

  • brilliant !!!!! :P

  • olemuckspreader, no mate it was definately an england song, the Martin to Ossie bit was Martin Peters and Peter Osgood. it mentioned a lot of the then England squad, can't find it in any searches either.

  • CCCCCCCCOOOOOOOMON ENGLAND FU** U SCOTLAND

  • Does anyone remember the other football song out when this came out? it had a few England players passing about then the words "Martin to Ossie and Bang"?

if anyone remembers it can you let me know, cheers

  • @chipthechap Is is Blue Is The Colour by Chelsea FC??

  • Great posting Eagle881, I think they should put the song back on the jukebox n let the men bang their eating irons to the tune god bless all of u

  • Bloody marvellous !, takes me back a good few years, but if u are of a certain age,it's very emotive !...... eagle881.....make em put it back man !........visions of loads of squaddies banging there cutlery to the beat. Priceless n god bless em !

  • They had to remove this from the jukebox in the canteen at our barracks inAldershot. Because the Squaddies were making too much noise banging their eating Irons on the table in time with the tune :-)

  • @eagle881

    haha love it

Gotta love the sense of humour of the British service personnal.

  • hope to be this year england will be champions again.Maltese supporter

  • Great to hear that song again and a reminder of a time when England had true heroes in their team unlike the over paid over rated fools we have now,oh for the good times.

  • i'm scottish but my mother's english and she had this on 7" vinyl, we used to play it all the time when we were younger

did jeff astle sing on the b side ?

  • @bobmorrice

I think Jeff Astle (RIP) should have been in the B side after his awful miss against Brazil Bob.

  • Love this song.....even though I'm not English. Unfortunately NI wont be there but good luck to the one UK team that is!

  • @Ballysillanone I probably shouldn't root for England but I would quite like to see some glory come back to the UK

  • Thats disrespecting england are u german man?

  • you are are fuckin discrace fuck off you dont represent england

  • england away really is nufin better then thousands of england fans singing in a square!!

  • At least some of us ENGLISH are prepared to stand up and chant unlike you twats sitting in your arm chairs! I would rather be in the square than chickening out like you, you prick!

  • @wembley05

Good luck pom, this song was composed by an Irish man and a Scots.

  • This was written by a Scotsman and an Irishman!

  • st patrick was english, so dont worry too much about that sort of thing son

  • 1970 it was recorded, there was a song rekeased in 1966 called Ramsey's men

  • it IS the 1966 team - the song was re-released in 1970

  • @redhotgranmamoyle Not it was not. Back Home was recorded by the 1970 squad in 1970... Not much point in doing a song called "Back Home" if the tournament was in England, now is there?

  • does ANY one out there remember the Top of The Pops video of - Bobby and Jackie Charlton, Bobby Moore (RIP), Hurst, Peters, Greaves, Nobby Stiles, Gordon Banks, Alan Cohen et all singing in the studio, in black & white. The Great Escape was the film of the moment; and West Germany were the team we had to beat!

  • This sounds like it was recorded from a radio station on medium wave as it sounds distorted.

  • we sang this on the train back from stuttgart in 2006. absolutely brilliant , the whole train was rocking......aswell as a touch of neil diamond!!!!!!!"

  • this is the first record i ever bought!

    bloody awful!!!!!!!!

  • this song is such a classic

  • this is a quality song, shud b sung by the England fans i think

  • but it's a song ABOUT the fans.

  • The two guys who wrote Puppet on a String wrote this. One of 'em knew Alf Ramsey's no-account brother, who he knew the England manager was ashamed of, so he goes and sees him about getting his blessing to do the song. Ramsey gave him short shrift, until the guy says something like, "you're brother was alot more friendly when I last saw him in some gutter somewhere," at which AR said he could go ahead as long as he, Ramsey, had nothing to do with it.

  • great post thx

  • It was the 1970 team that did this song

  • Precisely... The '66 boys already were home.

  • Surely someone must have the 1970 World Cup Squad singing the "video" or Top of the Pops clip of Back Home - I'm sure I've seen it on Grandstand and/or St and Grievesy or the like). When you consider some of the crap that appears on here(no offence directed at the moderators), I cant believe its not on already???

  • and the 1970 squad were better then 66 pity we had bonetti in goal against the krauts bonettis knickname was the cat yep he was ...........................bagpuss !!
