but if u want to gain wait after quitting....there isnt much u gotta do cause u will gain w8 no matter what.but if u want to gain alot of w8 .eat PB & j sandwitches whenever u want a smoke.
that will put ALOT of w8 on u.

I'm first attacking my eating habits and getting that under control before I attack the nicotine giant. When I quit before, I used sunflower seeds in the shell. It kept my mouth and hands busy when I wanted a cigarette. Also, as much as you hate water, the nicotine detox will go a lot faster if you drink water.
@afarrcry (cont) You can flavor your water with something, but not too much. I used lemons and sweetener. Also, lots of vitamin C. When you're a smoker, you deplete your body of vitamin C. The C will help boost your mood too. :) It's funny because I know HOW to quit...it's just hard because I too have an addictive personality and if I can't smoke, I automatically turn to food. It's a loose,loose situation for me at the moment. But good luck to you and to Emma for putting up with the mood swings.
ughhh i tried to quit smoking like 10 times.. i'm gonna try again here soon. what i did that helped me is anytime i wanted a cigarette, just eat a candy or chew gum. i'm gonna stock up on hard candies.. and it did help a lot bc it takes your mind off of it. and just keep busy. when you're just sitting around, you're gonna keep thinking about smoking. good luck! :)
many smokers tend to miss the "mouth" habit so replacing with gun/hard candies works. My inlaws who both smoked like 30+ years each recently stopped cold turkey and didn't use any nicotine weening things (patch, gum, etc.) just got some hard candies and gave it up! You can do it@
With an addictive personality, you can substitute one addiction for another, but you just need to know that this is what you are doing. The absolute best way to stop an addictive habit like smoking, is to stop "cold turkey", and decide that you will never smoke another cigarette again, ever, and never look back.... your body will thank you for this...
Good luck with quiting cigarettes! The smoking could have been supressing your appetite.. As for eating, carbs are good - pasta, rice, pulses, nuts, bread.. and protein - chicken, fish, etc (if you're not a veggie) Protein shakes are good or make your own smoothies

I've been trying to get my husband to quit for ages. Thing is, you have to want to do it for yourself and not someone else and that makes the task easier. And quitting smoking would probably help you to gain weight because smoking affects your appetite. Good luck!
Oh and I'd say eat a bunch of carbs to gain weight, like pasta. Or when you want to, eat something like cheesecake or get a frozen coffee drink, they have TONS of calories. But I'm not saying to completely eat junk all the time :) And as far as smoking goes, I've heard part of it is the motion with your hand, and perhaps holding a pen instead and making the same motion is better than nothing? Everyone is different though. Blu cigarettes are an alternative if you care to google it :)

I just cut down and ended up having 1 a day then I just didnt want them anymore after that.. the only time u miss it is when you go out drinking or when you are with people who you used to smoke with.... so avoid them situations if u can and yeah it should help put weight on it did with me.... looking forward to seeing how you get on... To put on weight...well there is plenty of fast food places which may help with that...but then that stuff might clogg up your heart so not a good tip ;-) Maybe eat a lot of cheese because cheese is fattening? Maybe even add more sugure into your diet than you usually have.
I think you've got the right idea by replacing the addiction with something else. You've got the perfect thing to replace it with, eating! Especially with the situation you're in where the medication you're on is making you lose weight, it could be a blessing in disguise. Plus the smoking was probably supressing your appetite ;)
Congrats, if only I could convince my mum to quit! Anyway with regards to the eating im probably jusr repeating what other people have but good fats would be a good way to go i.e. almonds, cashews etc, peanut butter, avocado, pesto even if you like that with some pasta (up your carb intake as well), probably try and have a bit more meat, add olive oil to your cooking etc you dont have to eat complete crap to put on weight, you van definitely do it in a healthy way! one of my best friends is having the same problem. she can't gain weight so she has been drinking protein shakes. I agree with the person below me. Make sure you eat healthy fats and protein. The easy way would be to eat a lot of fried foods...but you want to do things that are good for your heart...hehe

I see other people have recommended protein shakes and I agree with that. I'd throw in a tablespoon of peanut butter into that as well since good peanut butter contains lots of healthy fats. The hard part is you don't wanna gorge yourself on junk because you don't want to be unhealthy, so protein, good carbs and good fats are your friends.
good luck on quitting smoking! but im pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to gaining weight. i think (and saw in a documentary) that skinny people remain skinny until their body is ready to change, like even if you eat ridiculously large amounts, your body will resist putting on weight because it thinks what you are now is perfect for you. (or something like that)
Try eating double of what you already do. A good diet usually consists of a source of protein (chicken, pork chop, fish), a source of grain (pasta, rice, couscous), and some vegetables. I think it would be important if you still maintained this kind of diet and met all these food groups, but just eat more of it. Have two chicken breasts, double the size of your grains, also have some extra veggies. I think it's important to keep intaking healthy, normal foods instead of feasting on junk food

I saw a documentary the other day about this smoking guru and he said that the nicotine addiction isn't as bad as people think, but it's the other compulsions like actually holding the cig, putting in your mouth, the taste (even without nicotine) that's half of the addiction. Advice for putting on weight, well I would go and talk to the doctor, because you don't just want to sit around and eat heaps of junk and get unhealthy. There is this formula type stuff, that they give you through a tube at hospital if you can't eat, its a meal replacement formula, you buy it at the chemist and if you are trying to loose weight you use it to replace a meal but if you wanted to gain weight, drink a glass of it plus all you normal food, good luck!!

I recommend the e-cigarette. One of my best friends spent 17 years trying to quit, she tried absolutely everything and the best outcome would be she managed to cut back on how often she smoked. She recently bought an e-cigarette and she hasn't smoked a real one since getting it. I can get the info from her if you'd like to check it out.

Good luck with giving up! It is hard but the best thing you could do. I quit two years ago but I used the patches. They really helped.

Quitting smoking is a great idea! Smoking is also an appetite suppressant so cutting that should help with gaining weight. :)
