I was there. About 8 rows back.it was a life changing experience. Absolutely incredible. The whole set was like nothing Ive seen before or since. Phenomenal.
@SkyFortStudios which is a bit odd, considering the studio version was recorded in one take by a totally wasted Thom, lying on the floor while singing! x) (or so the story goes). But I suppose he's probably had a few beers here as well, I know I would if playing on the main stage of freakin' Glastonbury!
@SimVik91 no shit? wow had no idea. I bet it was tough for sure. that studio version is one of the most amazing vocals and band performances ive ever heard in a song.
Wow, Thom's voice just goes through me... In a brilliant way. Its beyond me how they manage to be get to this level of amazing in so many ways. Radiohead never even put a foot wrong. Is like they have a midas touch... someone should bottle that and sell it on e-bay for loads of money. I'd buy it. :)
This performance is amazing for so many reasons. "Planet Telex" is one of my favorite songs and should be played most often. The lyric: "I'm in ruins, but I'll stand" exemplify a relationship I had several years ago and ... "why can't you forget(?) ... why can't we forget(?) ..." Tops it all off. The songs mean something (different) to everyone, but they remain masterpieces in themselves. Great performance, all around!!
lol dude Johny plays in dark his hair is over his eyes AND face for years trust me they can all play in full darkness their just the greatest band in the planet!!

that said this is a fucking wicked tune....and as the guy below say please do cheak out: dan le sac vs scroobius pip letter from god'...I played it on the radio when it came out and people like *Chrisdarkfuckwitmonkey* cried for days.
There are many great things about this song. Firstly it's the glastonbury performance where everythin fucks up but they put on a clinic. secondly the bass is awesome throughout, thom yorke is on fire, the lighting is awesome, they all look right on the mainstage, the guitars all each have there own role, the keyboard is used to great effect, each segment of the song is never too long or short, always lyrically great and never focused on 1 member of the band, its a big team performance if you like.
yeh it sounds kinda different now that you pointed the the bass out and i like the keyboard intro because i heard it first on "beat that my heart skipped" by dan le sac vs. scroobius pip and i didnt know they sampled it
this was one of there first performances of there epicly over long tour where they were told they were the greatest people ever and couldn't really handle the sudden fame/pressure. I think. and the reason that glastonbury 97 is so well remembered is cos all the speakers blew up and they couldn't here themselves a lot of the time.
You said it yourself - music is subjective and open for interpretation , some people like the song some don't. I could bore you to tears trying to say why i like this song , using really long words and metaphorical contrasts to embelish its artistic merits....
They thrashed this one out- I like how the chorus rocks harder than the studio version. That said, the album cut has been my favorite song for a while now
Im not sure what the songs about, but i know that they wanted to name it planet xerox, but had to change it to telex because of copyrights. Im guessing it has something to do with corporate take over or something, or broken copying machines.
"like some new form of energy". that's eloquent man! kudos to u. but yeah theyre fuckin incredible. like to think the song is about not being able to escape the past myself. u know - "why can't you forget?" and planet "xerox"? but then i tend to read a lot into things. my antenna is the cause of my dilemma, tee hee...
none of their albums is dissapointing. it's best tho if you can keep up and take it into a higher and higher level of appretiation as their music grows.

they could play 5 hours different material for me and not get dull. jonny is just awesome, especially in this gig on the older tunes - inspired.
I agree that you can't compare Kid A or Amnesiac to The Bends, but that's only because they are such different albums in terms of style, genre, etc. I don't think that The Bends is shit, I actually think it's really good, it's just different.
as much as I absolutely love the bends and ok computer, if I were asked to draw up my dream live setlist, it would mostly consist of songs from kid a onwards. reading the comments here, I find it a shame that people don't appreciate the newer stuff. people need to accept that radiohead are a brave band that will never stick to the same formula. I love all their work equally. incredible band with an expansive sound.
It´s a pity Radiohead music changed so much after Ok Computer. The bends and Ok Computer are absolute masterpieces. What they did after is not really bad, but I can´t stop thinking about the music they could have delivered
Well i've heard that Hail to the Theif is up there with the Bends and OK Computer as well.
