  • Ah, another moron like RedSG! shamamalegger123, you are a total idiot. Perhaps you should learn how to read and use the internet before you set your little piggly wigglies atyping.

  • yeah!

  • Shamisen is not exclusively a Japanese instrument! Japan actually took it from China and China originally took it from ancient Egypt so how is it that Shamisen (which really just means 3 stringed lute) can be only for Japan today? I think Shamisen is for all cultures to enjoy!

  • I think China probably developed the Sanxian and the Egyptian developed their own skin lute independently. It's a fairly basic design.

I played the banjo for years, learned two songs, decided I had no aptitude for string instruments and switched to the flute. Now I want a shamisen. Life wanders around, doesn't it?

  • I stand corrected. Britannica Online places the earliest known skin lutes in Babylon about 2500bc, with an unknown development prior. The 3 string skin lute of ancient Egypt is still made and played in West Africa, and the basic instrument was the dominant folk lute in Persia and Afghanistan, where China probably picked it up 1000 years ago.

So maybe it did originate in Egypt. I've been wrong before.

  • Both Kevin Kmetz and Masahiro Nitta are undeniable in their amazing approach to the Shamisen.

  • un grand bravo de la france

  • Yes, it is all a conspiracy, meant to put a veil over everyone's eyes. But you! You saw through their complex plot! Now, you know too much..
