If a suspect is wielding a knife or weapon that is life threatening to the officer they have a right to defend themselves, yes, but within police proceedures and I believe in a case were their life was in danger would entail shooting them.

No, Tony was insane and his bullshit raciasm was not warranted. All it does is serve to divide us more. I just recently learned about this murder being from Illinois I didn't hear about it. Sorry that it happened for the both of them. I understand that you had he went back and forth, but the fact was that he was sick and he needed help. I find it hard to be angry at someone who just doesn't know. To me it's like being angry at a baby. He shouldn't have taken his or her life. The lesson I think we should learn from this is when you see a cry for help, take action. True, however lets say a person they are trying top apprehend has a knife and is being extremely violent and you have been trying to stop that person for harming others and yourself and you have one opportunity to stop that person and that is to slug them.

Wrong. Police are trained with proceedures to deal with such situations. They are not above the law and they don't need to resort to alternative measures outside of the law, they have all the means to deal with such a situation and it does not entail beating suspects.
Again, if police are not going to obey the law then they should not expect people to obey them.
