I think it is amusing that you are someone who claims to appreciate Joy Division (a post-PUNK band) and yet you really have totally missed the idea of punk rock as something that unsettles people and avoids conventions. This cover of shadowplay is doing exactly that and true punk/hardcore will continue to do that, with or without your approval.

I didn't think I said I like Joy Division. I like their JD original version of this song better than the crapathians. I also like Killers version much better.

Regarding calling something a product, in a sense all music is CONSUMED by the listeners by listening to it. Or, not consumed if they do not like it.

Products of anyone's efforts CAN be given away freely. No reference to capitalism or socialism implied.

@phyfirst I don't like the killers cover of shadowplay because they have taken away the punk element and replaced it with pop sensibilities, yet i'm not complaining about it because it's simply an opinion. your idea of music as something we consume may as well mean music is just a product. going to a show and listening to music isn't just an exchange between those who pay for the music and those who play the music, i'd hope that people take something away form the show that isn't tangible.

I don't need to intelluctually categorize music before I listen to it and say " this artist is punk, post punk, etc so it must satisfy certain parameters.'

I don't say to myself " this artist is profiting from his efforts too much so I shouldn't listen to it."

Many years ago, I first listened to God Save the Queen, Kill the Poor and Wait For THe Blackout.

This music was energetic and creative. Not copied, drunken poorly done covers.

Theres a big difference, The Joy Division influence upon Carpathian is Huge, if you knew your shit before you ran your mouth, you'd know that the vocalist for Carpathian started a Record Company titled "Dead Souls" he's signing bands with talent, Hardcore isn't about money, unlike the killers, who're absolutely loaded.

the question isnt if they are the Killers or not, but the interest of covering another band.

A cover should bring something to the original, not only copy it.

In this case, i recognize it's a live, so it's cool for the fans to hear the song performed by another band they came for (so they like too). My comment was more for the studio version of this cover I heard too, which has not huge interest.
