1. Descent players referring to themselves as pilots is absolutely fine. In SubSpace, players refer to themselves as pilots as well. And 'real' pilots wouldn't give a damn about it. No game 'pilots' think that their gameplay matter beyond the scope of the game or actually save lives or anything to mitigate 'real' fighter pilots, so I don't see the issue here.

with all due respect - the model there - was made by fan...and there is no evidence on wiki nor D4 timeline site that this screen shot - is real...I can say that i'm working with THQ and they secretly starting В4юююШ can show you samples - will you be able to be shure that i'm telling the truth or lie?
Descent 4 was in production for a brief while by Volition until they turned it into Red Faction. 2 trailer songs were composed for this iteration but were never used, you can find them on Sectorgame's music download section.
After that was canceled, Descent 4 was revived by a fan project and company, but they were unable to convince Interplay to give them the IP rights and so had to cancel the project. The first song in this video was composed for that project.
The screenshot shown here is a mod for a level that inserted the Quantum Pyro model that was originally intended for the fan version of Descent 4. No screenshots of the fan made game were ever released.
Yet another attempt at Descent 4 was made in the form of a mod for Descent 3. I personally composed some songs for this attempt, but it too fell to the wayside and has since been abandoned.
After all of these failed attempts, one company tried to make a spiritual successor to the game rather then a direct sequel, known as Core Decision. This had an entire soundtrack composed for it, which has since been leaked on to youtube if you search for it. Sadly this project also failed miserably and has vanished.
Some fans have recently gotten together to try and make an open-source attempt at a sequel. They have so far failed to produce anything.
Well looks like there is going to be a Descent 4 with Interplay back in business. Descent 3 was released in 1999, maybe we will see Descent 4 getting released exactly 10 years later.
I never played Descent II but Descent was the only game I played in my childhood. Was absolutely awesome. I remember it came free with out first computer. Happy memories.

D3 has only one reactor blowing level (it's a secret level). No count downs to doom (except on one level where you DEFEND the reactors). It is objective based. The levels are WAY longer. Some weapons are changed (spread fire replaced by a flame thrower). Guide Bot is deployable. AI is much better (robots dodge your attacks A LOT). EXTREMELY faster flying. Out door areas.
Basically a whole overhaul. Like a different game. I love it.
Descent 2. Twice the ammount of weapons! Fusion has been downgraded by 100000000%. Headlight is a collectable powerup as well as the Afterburner. Ammo Rack doubles missile capacity and the ammo capacity for the mass weapons. The feeling of the whole game is not as dark as D1. Guidebot is found in a cage near your starting point. Gauss cannon rips through EVERYTHING! It's like the Vauss, but more powerful. There is a boss every 4 levels. Level 16's is the hardest.
Also a little history... Descent 4 was originally being made by Volition, but ended up morphing into Red Faction. Later on after that news, a group of fans under Midnight Squad Design Studios decided they would start work on D4. A handful of us didn't like the way it was heading and splintered off to form Orbital Design Studios. We already made plans with Interplay, but Parallax didn't want to let go of their baby, and Interplay couldn't really do much about that. So yeah. Oh well.

Descent 4 is on its way ... created by Interplay. Copyrights don't split... they went with one of the parts of Parallax, that would be Outrage Ent. E.T.A. for D4 ... I'd say 2010, late 2009. But I'm sure its still "cancelable" as they still are collecting money for the project (altough it is a good sign that the devteam is enlarging.)
