  • I think what people fail to see, dave didn't mean for it to be a great rock record. Just a demo :P

  • Dave is a pretty damn fine drummer.

  • Was this song made in 95?

  • @xxRetroAzzazzinxx this song was originally recorded around 1991, look up winnebego from the cd "pocketwatch", was daves original version, i guess he redid it when he formed the band

  • I fucking love the foos- however they would not be as huge today if Dave had not gone against everything Nirvana stood for. He has self-admittedly 'played the game' that's the modern music industry. You must have an angle, Daves was unintentionally I'm sure, ex-member of Nirvana. This=instant interest from industry types. So many have Dave's talent who will never be recognized. Still loving the Foos-they're great in their own right-i just wish the industry wasn't so bent... it is... you know it!

  • I remember getting the This Is a Call single on 12" glow in the dark vinyl and just listening to this song over and over. What a fucking brilliant song.

  • the new album was recorded in daves garage on tape so its not all digitally processed stuff thats done most of the time they all had to be on the same page and they where... long live the band

  • how can anyone say this is bad music?

  • There's definitely something endearing about the Foo Fighters 90s material, but I love their new stuff just as much as their old stuff (all the way back to Late!)

  • old/new...it's ROCK'N'GROHL!!!!

  • The drumming in Dave's "Late!" recording is better in my opinion. But its still a kick ass song

  • what people need to realize is the foo fighters grew as a band perfectly. early in their career thier music was all energy very loud and melodic. as time progressed so did they with their music. songs like statues, home, i shouldve known are alot more grown up and emotional as people tend to do as they get older

  • Thanks for the lyrics Jeffrey!

  • Ur missing the point HHHseanhbk its not that the recent stuff is crap but i grew up on this so it has massive memories! dave is a legend and always will be no matter what decade lol xxxxxx

  • Their older stuff is more original.. has a unique quirky sound. Now they just sound like thousands of other bands.

  • who cares weather you listen to the new or the old its all good

  • album?

  • Awesome! I wish all his songs were less produced like this

  • look how young they look.

  • i cant wait for their new record to come out in the spring. it was recorded on tapes in dave grohl's garage and produced by butch vig who produced nevermind. i heard it's supposed to be like their old stuff. i don't really care though because ANYTHING dave grohl touches is gold to me : )

  • @aliciamichelle222

I heard Rope from their upcoming album On q 101 the other day and I went Crazy lol. I can't wait till the album comes out. :)

  • wow never heard this before and im pleased to say one of there best songs

  • But I think it sounds like Nirvana becouse Dave wrote songs when he was in Nirvana. Dave said in 1997 "I was in awe of frontman Kurt Cobain's songs, and intimidated. I thought it was best that I keep my songs to myself." 12 out of 40 of his songs were recorded in 1994.

  • still has that nirvana sound to it

  • I hope the new album will be more rocking than the last 3.. I miss old Foo.. :(

  • @robonl dito! too much tearjerking these days

  • i listen too anything Dave Grohl has to offer musically....i even have the soundtrack from the movie "touch" ....Dave is my favorite musician of all time, not saying he's the best/greatest....just my favorite....Rock'N'Grohl!!!!!

  • The Foo-Fighters will make up for their latested when the new album comes out with them and butch vig producing,as for no I listen to early stuff and a few songs from what's new....Thx for this B-Side,for some reason I only had the PocketWatch to listen to.

  • @Flagofblack Eh, Ive been playing guitar for 12 years. Ive never heard a pick scrape sound like that. But who knows?!

  • Are you kidding me, anything after "There is nothing..." is complete trash and "Nothing" struggled as it is. You must be under fairly young

  • @JThungstrom Even though there best album was in your honor... Your just kidding yourself saying you don't like songs like all my life, best of you and let it die to name just a few kick ass songs. =D

  • @AsMhMoOt In your honor is a f'n abortion of an album and I like the Foo Fighters don't get me wrong, but they have made some big mistakes in my book over the last 6-7 years with the direction they took. Whatever edge they used to have...they have since lost it.

  • @JThungstrom Well I actually like their softer side like friend of a friend which was written before this... It seems like i'm the only one who does now a days lol. But yeah I understand where you are coming from but i understand that the Foo Fighters can't be loud and angry all the time as well.

  • @JThungstrom That's your opinion. I actually listen to the debut and In Your Honor the most.

  • Grohl on his first album use a lot of Nirvana, he was used to "verse chorus verse", he said many of the songs from that album were composed by the great Kurt and I have no doubt

  • love those songs ,but this kinda shit just kicks ass!!! its just soo oldschool its great!!

  • THAT IS

    "THE SONG

  • Just a note to anyone who didn't know this, Dave wrote and recorded all of these songs. It was only until after it was released that he found a band to play with.

  • god this album is a classic, def very grungy. every song on hear was just great! i wish they could release another album similar to this

  • With the debut, it showed what Dave could do by himself. And he just happened to create a great rock record by himself (save for one guitar part). With the other albums, It brought in a mesh of other influences with the other bandmates. But whatever the Foos do, it'll be awesome.

  • Congrates to Grohl for coming out of Cobains shadow.

  • it's funny when someone says "their" first album..grohl played every instrument on that album when it was recorded..obviously the sound changes with the influence of 3 other people....still love the stuff he did by himself the most though

  • I love the foos no matter what. But i absolutely love all of Dave's angsty teen warp-speed grungy punk rock stuff. it's just perfect.

  • this song actually from way way back in the nirvana days

  • Yep. Download the album Pocketwatch. The Artist is Late! aka Dave Grohl.

  • @Cr8zyCanuck Is it any good or just a recommend for a fan?

  • I would say give it a listen. The tracks are rougher but the song Just Another Story About Skeeter Thompson and Hell's Garden will be sure favorites on your playlist if you like the foos already.

  • I love their old stuff and new stuff. Yes, they have different sounds but that is just how they have developed as a band :)

    FF <3 !

  • I really hope Josh teaches Dave something on the tour of Them Crooked Vultures, as much as I love their newer stuff, Foo's need to go back to this.

  • Why do people only like their old stuff? Their new stuff is just as good. Miracle, Resolve, DOA, Erase/Replace, Come Alive, ect. are all good songs.

  • I like the new stuff a lot, but the old stuff has something different.... maybe more energy... i dont know... thats what i think..

  • @cuauh05 Yeah but the newer stuff has more feeling to it. =D

  • @cuauh05 Yeah their new stuff is more a conscious effort. With *every single band*, when they start out it's all for the fun of it, and it might as well end tomorrow. After a few years of success there's more pressure, be it conscious or subconscious, to make something good. When people start out they're usually fearless.

  • @cuauh05 You are absolutely right.

  • @cuauh05 i think that their older stuff is more striped down and basic. their wasnt a whole back up band behind the stage, it was just them. and thats the way it should be now... ff forever

  • @cuauh05 You're totally right. Foo Fighters kick ass, even now, but their old stuff has a punk twist to it... lot's of energy... it's just a different vibe. And by the way, the band just played Butterflies and Watershed live this year, and that's awesome!

  • @danielmrtns "just played Butterflies and Watershed live this year" <----SPOILERS! lolz

  • @cuauh05 I agree the older Foo recordings had a better feel... It may come down to the recordings itself... The older songs were recorded more like a demo... Now its more produced and taking away that raw feel to it..

  • @Reyes28ra but they are coming back with the raw fell again, see rope and walk of wasting light.

  • @TheOnyxMage The new album seems promising. I still don't own it but its better from what I heard.

  • Because some people have very closed minds and never advance past the first albums (or most commercially successful).

  • the newer albums are more successful

  • @hhhseanhbk I completely agree and i think its because things always look better in hines sight, because most of the people who say that werent around to see the early stuff... i wasnt but i just take it for what it is, its all good (Y) :)

  • @hhhseanhbk any foo is good foo "rock'n'grohl" is what i say

  • @hhhseanhbk

Correct, but those are select few needles in a haystack of soft-rock and mellow jams.

Early and new Foos are two completely different bands, so I suppose it's a matter of liking one but not the other.

  • @hhhseanhbk

I think the new stuffs are too much mainstream and smooth. "The Pocketwatch" demo cassette is one of my favourite recording, but I dislike "the Color and the Shape" while I really like "One by One".

  • @hhhseanhbk because it was more raw and had a more energetic sound.... less produced and more real sounding than the newer slick albums

  • @hhhseanhbk Dave wrote Miracle in 1991

  • Comment removed

  • @hhhseanhbk Because their old stuff is better, its raw and not so commercial, new albums good though

  • @MCSKUX lol commercial? do you even know what that means?

  • @hhhseanhbk, @cuauh05 I agree with both of you here.

  • @hhhseanhbk it's crazy how much the band has matured musically...there's a huge difference between the self-titled and Wasting Light...but the best thing is, they have always had that escence about them that made them the Foos...everything they have ever written is fucking gold

  • @GuitarPUNK1209 A-fucking-men.

  • the melody sounds alot like weenie beenie

  • how could this be the b-side! its so good! but all of the b-sides are. wish it got on the album....OH WELL. the albums still amaazziinngg :D

  • I need to learn to play BASS so bad!!! OMG, I so wanna be a bass player. I just started learning how to play acoustic...

  • Long live the old Foo Fighters, 1995-1997

  • Yeah you're right, dude. Their old stuff is really better than their new stuff, but i like shiflett more dann pat and taylor more than William.

  • all there stuff is sick man they are always good unlike bands such as mcr which get worse with every album although they wernt even good to start with

  • MCR is not even in the same league, and has never been as good as the Foo Fighters ever will be.

  • There new stuff is just as good even though its little bit different i mean how can you say let it die sucks? ;)

  • I never said that their new Stuff suck :D

    But i like "Young-Dave's-Music" more :P

So, i really LOVE Foos, to get that right :D

  • Foo Fighters are the best =D

  • good tune prefer the key of the original tbh

  • WEll we can make a remake using the Winnebago man included hehe.

  • Brilliant!! Long live rock and roll!!

    Fuck yeah.

  • Nice song. Yeah, the bong thing kinda sounds like the bong in the Sublime songs, just not as loud.

  • yea i think its a pick scrape on the bass but im goin with the bong tooooo hehe good song dave

  • its a pick scape, they do itt live

  • Anybody else hear a waterbong at 3:08-3:11?

  • haha yeah, i heard it!

  • whoa me too!

    thats funny

  • @cuauh05 lool ^^ thats crazy XD

  • I'm pretty sure he's just scraping the strings with his pick, but it's a nice thought.

  • lol im pretty sure he is too... but itd be funny if it was a waterbong xD

  • who calls it a waterbong? a bong uses water so...

  • @notforyou760 haha yeah

  • @notforyou760 i would say it's ja winnebong O.o

  • you know what would be amazing is if you sent me this

  • for some reason the drums sound like the 4th of july on crack....oh...it's dave grohl...no wonder...rock'n'grohl!!!!

  • great tune I guess....needs to be mixed desperately...i suppose they would have re-recorded this song if they had intended on releasing it domestically. Love the band and Dave VOX, but live a few years ago in Long Beach...they sounded like shit....you couldn't make out any of the vocals because it was too distorted. NIN on the other hand at the hollywood bowl 2 years back was crystal clear. The difference was a shitty sound system vs a cutting edge one!

  • Song is good how it is but needs to be re-recorded

  • thats why its good, its raw

  • lol i dont even know why i said that

  • ABSOLUTE AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAVE !!!! SO KISS ME !!!! YOU PUNK MUTHER FUCKER BOY DAMN YOU ??? luccky japanesse´s had this song included in the debut album .... i hear this on a concert but knew shit about the tittle , this is a call , i mean this is fuckingly good

  • Why can't I get these rare songs on my iPod! i have every foo fighter album but I want these rare songs!!!

  • This song is great.

What an awesome riff, simple but effective!

  • the drums get so fast towards the end, must be quiite hard!

  • To see the end of the song live is intense. William Goldsmith would nail it. His right hand would alternate between ride cymbal and floor tom as his foot would be going insanely fast while his left hand kept a steady beat on the snare. Live, it's like a machine gun firing. Amazing. Unfortunately they usually cut out the end of the song so they could jump right into either Wattershed or Gas Chamber.

  • How many comments of mine have you replied to now oldfoofan? and yeah it is a shame about the end of the song being cut out :(

  • Why do you think Will left the band? Because he simply wasn't up to the sheer exertion demanded of him, whereas Dave was. That's why Dave always kicks Will's arse for sheer power.

  • and also watershed..

sounds like a mix of a few songs of the first album

  • sounds more like "Ill stick around" rather than "this is a call"

  • the description means it came off the singles cd, douche

  • angry. very angry. must be small pee pee syndrome.

  • @risen27 I SAY! YOU MEAN ZEE SMALL COCK SYNDROME!

  • @risen27 Fuck off queer.

  • muito bom

  • is this a re-recorded version or is it thesame as Pocketwatch?

  • its the version of "this is a call" single, you can listen the pocketwatch version in my other video..

  • they sound pretty close...

  • es buena

  • I just read off the Foo Fighters website that there are no new copies of Pocketwatch to be pressed. But I think there are some on Ebay.

  • wow haven't heard this in awhile...hard find...love it!

  • the song is called winnebage. dave wrote it when he was with nirvana. the first version was released on Pocketwatch, dave's solo album in 1992

  • how do i get it!!! watever its called

  • drcarnage83, i thinks its called Just another story about Skeeter Thompson. Skeeter Thompson was a friend of Dave Grohls while he was in the band Scream

  • cool song! I like the live version in london back in 95 I belive

  • what's the foo fighters b-side which is Dave telling a story about some guy with stuff in his belly button

  • halpert444 is right. The song is called "Just Another Story About Skeeter Thompson", but it's not about stuff in his belly button. He asked Dave if it looked like he had pus on his penis. :O Hope I'm allowed to say that here. ;)

  • and he says "I think it's flint" (???)

cheers for the name of the tune btw :)

  • no.

in the song the guy skeeter is obviously with a girl who gets around. and he asks dave if it looks like pus and dave goes "no, i think it's lint," being sarcastic. because skeeter caught something.

haha i love that song it makes me laugh

  • This song is awsome. I want to find this recording of this song on cd and I think I might have found, but I also have the Late! Pocketwatch cassette on cd which is cool. It has the orginal version of this. Now if I could find the cassette....

  • muito foda, só uma foto?

    aeuhauehauheuahueahe

  • awsome

  • where did u find this song!!!!???? ive been looking for this song evrywhere,on itunes, limewire, and i cant find it anywhere!!!! please tell me where i can find this song!!! plzzz

  • I've got this song recorded live on a bootleg CD... I'll see if I can find the damn CD somewhere.
