I am very excited follow this new VLG entry (there aren't many beyond experimental). My personal favorite is the Mustang, but I am open to new ideas. The engine configuration is definately unusual. Not that it is bad, just different. This thing is hugely fast and FL43. Going to be fun to watch how it does.
@idontcare80 No they are growing, they are spreading their engineering, they dream big and do it. This can go for Privately owned, or Companies, You have No Idea the great effect this has had on my life, my community everything. It's a great idea that they did this, they already have 200+ orders for these awesome jets.
@Microglia1 Embraer Phenom 100 is more fuel efficient, has an unbeatable dispatch reliability, a higher level of comfort (interior design by BMW Designworks) and much more space for luggage. Embraer has been built by a company with decades of experience in building very reliable jets, and its engineers employed the same philosophy of reliability while projecting and building the Phenom 100. Embraer has a widespread network of service for Phenom owners. And Phenom 100 is cheaper than Hondajet.
@makinamati what were you expecting? a G6? a 757? Lol its a Honda, cheap, economical, and reliable. Getting from point A to point B through the air was the main goal.
The Emivest SJ30-2 may be in bankruptcy, but they were able to build the fastest, highest flying VLJ on the market and they gave it a wow factor 2,500nm range. No VLJ comes close. You have to move up to mid-size BJs before you get that range normalized.
Why didn't Honda give the Honda Jet at least a 2,000nm capacity. That would have put the aircraft on my "serious contender" list, had they done that. Hopefully, a Honda Jet variant will at least double its current range. It has no legs.
@glodieda Just thinking here, but a lot of jets/airplanes also have engines on the wings (think: engine under wing design). Of course on the other end, a lot of them don't as well, but ya.
@Dominoes282 There's just something about pushing the throttle forward and the nose is pushed down (Cirrus Vision or PiperJet Altaire) with single engine overhull centerline...
@utubeworms Apparently Honda did this with lower drag than fuselage mounted engines. Also, by mounting them on the wing the fuselage doesn't have to taper so much at the back to accommodate the engines which gives a lot of extra room for cargo and whatnot.
The ONLY problem I have with this aircraft is its lack of range. The SJ30-2 has had several financial setbacks over the span of its development and certification process, but it does have an amazing range of 2,500 nm. That blows the doors off of any VLJ on the market right now. I'm surprised that Honda did not at least set the program for the to reach a 2,000 NBAA IFR target range. In fact, being in the "market" I'm very disappointed because I like everything else about the HondaJet.
@curetheingorant "The Hondajet jet clearly show the superiority of Honda engineering over "German engineering" which is now largely myth and marketing spin."
--------------------
Sorry, but it was German Engineering that put turbine powered aircraft on the map here in the U.S. during World War II, by producing the first "production" Fighter powered by a jet engine called the ME-262. Had Germany been able to produce more ME-262's near the end, the U.S. might be now called the Fatherland.
I like Honda, they are on a whole norther level. all of the car competitor's say there better then Honda, and all Honda haft to say is. do you make jet plans?lol just when you think Honda is down in out.they take it up a Noach, literally.

It has to do with materials science in jet engines and then with regulation. Anything that's regulated to this extent will be expensive.
