@leestauf did you know that even Christianity used to convert, enslave and kill in the name of God till a few centuries back? Most of the european religions/societies have undergone a drastic change (basically mellowed down) over the past 3-4 centuries d/t industrialization, colonization,etc. Islam, because of it's stasis localization in northern africa & middle east is still going through that process. Modernization took place really late in these areas..Give them at least a century to mature.

@leestauf I have lived in the middle east for a few years. Believe me, situation is not even close to what you are saying. People are generally really nice and peaceful in almost all the countries. Iran is an exception. But again, it's not the iranian people, it's their leadership that's messed up. If they do indeed come close to getting nuclear weapons, I'm sure all the other countries in the world are gonna jump on them.

Most of the european religions/societies have undergone a drastic change (basically mellowed down) over the past 3-4 centuries d/t industrialization, colonization,etc. Islam, because of it's stasis localization in northern africa & middle east is still going through that process. Modernization took place really late in these areas..Give them at least a century to mature.

@leestauf I have lived in the middle east for a few years. Believe me, situation is not even close to what you are saying. People are generally really nice and peaceful in almost all the countries. Iran is an exception. But again, it's not the iranian people, it's their leadership that's messed up. If they do indeed come close to getting nuclear weapons, I'm sure all the other countries in the world are gonna jump on them.

my friends who are so opposed to the mosque near ground zero. To show our tolerance, we should let them build. Then right across the street, someone should put a topless bar, called “You Mecca Me Hot”. Next to that should be a gay bar, “The Turban Cowboy”. And next door to the mosque should be a pork rib restaurant, maybe “Iraq o’ Ribs”? Then the Muslims could be allowed to show their tolerance. Problem solved.
