you're right. MC started miming During her Butterfly era, around 1997. But I think she only started singing live around 1992. And even during her Daydream tour, MC was already transposing the keys to her song, lowering the keys, in her live performances. Regine toured Asia and the Philippines, TV, then movies, etc. So it is fair to say both MC and RV went through equal pressure and stress related to their respective careers. Both also got critical praises even from Grammy-winning artists.

I think Regine is a fantastic vocalist, no question about it. This video, however, is a perfect example of how narcissistic she tends to be when performing with a group. She absolutely has to dominate the entire number.

You are correct that this is "belting" but to call it "chest voice" in the title is misleading, because a true belt placement does not resonate in or pull at the chest.
@reignraven "MIX" consists of a combination of head and chest. True, healthy "belt" requires total relaxation of the larynx and the majority of the resonance exists in the palate. If someone were to use their chest in those notes, it would most likely result in strained vocal cords and the sustaining of the note would be impossible. The reason she is able to hit those notes is because RELEASES the resonance in her chest with ease and allows the voice to ring in her mask and head.

But in mixing, the belter uses a skill.technique to mix the chest and the head, it requires skill and it does not occur naturally. When a belter uses this technique (therefore it is now a learned skill), mixing head and chest, the mix may still be head dominant or chest dominant.

you're right. MC started miming During her Butterfly era, around 1997. But I think she only started singing live around 1992. And even during her Daydream tour, MC was already transposing the keys to her song, lowering the keys, in her live performances. Regine toured Asia and the Philippines, TV, then movies, etc. So it is fair to say both MC and RV went through equal pressure and stress related to their respective careers. Both also got critical praises even from Grammy-winning artists.

i agree... sheryn's voice is fierce but it lacks volume and firm..... she's a great singer but there's something lacking.... I've heard her sing and have seen her videos, there's no argue that she can hit high notes, it's just that she cannot sustain high notes for so long and it lacks firmness. you can check out her videos. Unlike her, Regine's high note is firm, full and loud. It's like telling us that she can belt out in a loud way (not shouting).

I think Regine is a fantastic vocalist, no question about it. This video, however, is a perfect example of how narcissistic she tends to be when performing with a group. She absolutely has to dominate the entire number.
To be fair, though, even Jaya and Lani Misalucha displayed the exact same tendencies in their production numbers as a group during the days of their weekend variety show. SAPAWAN talagang katakot-takot silang tatlo.

@Cali5556 She was just following the Dreamgirls movie version of this song. Jennifer Hudson actually belts out a B5 in the movie version with the other girls also just swaying in the background. Regine didn't belt out that A5 randomly. The belted high note was part of the arrangement.

There are already lots of PP group singing numbers where she doesn't even belt and she keeps the same pitch as the others. To generalize that she showboats is too assuming.

You are correct that this is "belting" but to call it "chest voice" in the title is misleading, because a true belt placement does not resonate in or pull at the chest.

@reignraven "MIX" consists of a combination of head and chest. True, healthy "belt" requires total relaxation of the larynx and the majority of the resonance exists in the palate. If someone were to use their chest in those notes, it would most likely result in strained vocal cords and the sustaining of the note would be impossible. The reason she is able to hit those notes is because RELEASES the resonance in her chest with ease and allows the voice to ring in her mask and head.

@reignraven pag chest, chest voice. pag head, headvoice. ang mix voice, chest and head blend. but the chest voice NATURALLY blend with the head at a certain note in a given octave, but it occurs naturally. But in mixing, the belter uses a skill.technique to mix the chest and the head, it requires skill and it does not occur naturally. When a belter uses this technique (therefore it is now a learned skill), mixing head and chest, the mix may still be head dominant or chest dominant.

Check your sources. Ever heard of Chaka khan, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle ? they've been singing those notes way before regine ever could. Many american gospel singers can hit (and sing) really high notes too...up to C6 in chest actually.
