Many people have problems, not just Native Americans. To hide those problems at the expense of history and tradition is more uncomfortable to me. When language barriers prohibited bonding, many Native Americans used the "peace pipe" to create that bond. It's part of their culture.

Alcohol and drug use are major problems in any ethnic group. Hiding from the matter is worse than confronting it. The joke wasn't about natives using it. It was about Jackie Chan using it.

@MajorSotello That makes sense. I didn't actually have a problem with the showing of drug use among Natives, just the joking about it. But you're right, the butt of the joke is actually Jackie Chan. It's ok then :)

Of course, there are substance abuse problems in every group, but such problems, along with the rates of depression and suicide, are particularly high among Natives compared to other ethnic groups in the U.S. and Canada. Again, no problem with showing it, just insensitive jokes.

Glad you see it from my perspective. Pop-humor has a tendency to focus on cultures. And in most cases that humor will offend someone, especially those within that culture. However, humor may seem degrading, but it's mainly just adding perspective. Whether it be serious or satirical, it effectively offers a point of view.

I to have issues with insensitive humor. Mainly those involving physical pain [e.g slapstick comedy and pranks]. But I have little issue with pop-humor itself.
