GAAAH, love Adam Kantor. A lot of people don't agree with me, but hey, I'm willing to be a part of a minority, lol. Kantor's funny, adorable, and has awesome comedic timing. I LOVE him on the 2008 DVD.
I started freaking out in the beginning, when the other people (whos names i have no idea) started singing La Vie Boheme, and I was like, ANTHONYS THERE, WHY CANT HE SING? and then the others came out and it was all good. :DDDD
thats sad, he never got to see how great and inspirational, and how amazing his musical became. at least his memory is kept alive throught the amazing cast that performs this musical each year and tours in his honor.
It's so moving when everyone in the audience is singing the song. I haven't really turned things over in my mind, but rent changed my life in so many ways and now, I can say Jonathan's gift can be passed to our children and to our children's children so... let's enjoy it.
what a beautiful cast of all shapes colors and sizes. i know i am honored to be a part of this legacy (on a smaller scale). If anyone cares to look my production has a video blog on my channel for our rent rehearsals. Thank you for posting this.
I have to agree with some of the people that don't like Kantor's performance too much....he just doesn't seem right for Mark....he is really funny though, and a great actor :)
i cant believe i found something that moves me so much that i am brought to tears every time i watch the 2005 movie, listen to the movie soundtrack or randomly roaming around youtube to see the original cast, original Broadway footage scenes or seeing the millions of fan reenactments to pay homage to the pioneers that spoke out for a generation. Thank You Jonathan Larson. I cant wait to go see Anthony and Adam this weekend in the local production of RENT. Viva La Vie Boheme!
I just started crying watching that. I just wish I had been able to see it on broadway... By the time I got to go to New York, the Nederlander was just a shell of what it used to be. Rent changed my life. It's caused me to want to go out and change the world. To help people. I have the highest respect for anyone who has taken part in anything that has to do with this show. Thank you, Jonathon Larson...
Kantor's not very good. He has a lot of pitch issues. Watch Filmed Live on Broadway. They filmed three different nights (in case something went wrong), and he is still off pitch at a couple of major moments.
1. He misses most of the pitches in the "How we gonna pay?"s with Roger. At one point, Will Chase actually points to his ear, seeming to warn Adam to listen for pitch.
2. Mark's La Vie Boheme B section "Anyone out of the mainstream..." is TOTALLY off.
"And changed our lives." How sweet coming from Idina and Taye's perspective, and how true for the rest of us. RENT will live on forever, on or off Broadway. RIP Jonathan Larson. We're the lucky ones.
to be honest, i dont understand why this musical isn't on broadway anymore...
great musicals and plays can resonate with audiences regardless of the timeframe...and i think that rent is one of them ^^. there are a couple famous musicals on broadway that i think should be on anymore...like POTO. and also wicked...it seems to have faded in the background and no one cares anymore XD
The cast of Rent is truly amazing. Each person must take from it things that inspire them in their daily life. There are sad times, happy times, and some of the greatest times in life that can be lived through this musical. The overall message of this whole production is really moving, and overall inspiring to live life to its fullest.
Does anyone else think it's really touching when the camera zooms in on Lin Manuel Miranda giving a standing ovation? In The Heights was constantly compared to Rent and Miranda himself said he was really inspired by Rent since it was the only show that took place in "real time" and was about "real issues." I don't know...I just think it's nice that the creator of the best new show recognizes the amazing beauty of Rent ten years after it made such a huge impact on Broadway.
O well, im dont wanna hear him sing again, and it's "His voice is great" not "He's voice is great", thats like saying "He is voice is great", even thought it doesnt matter either way, cuz it isnt
If you're going to correct someone's english, you should make sure that your english correct. "Im dont wanna hear him sing again" is not right, as well as "even thought it doesn't matter either way."
I know I couldn't believe Jesse wasn't there either!! But I think he's filming that Marvin Gaye movie that he's always wanted to be a part of. I'm sure it will be amazing!
The current cast sucks. Especially the guy that plays Mark.
I was so excited to watch them on the Tony's... I was expecting to just watch the original cast sing the whole song of Seasons of Love. But then they showed that crap performace.
wow. have you ever seen the cast live? sure you can form an opinion about watching people on TELEVISION, but seeing them live is completely different.
Mark looks like anthony rapp just with black hair in the current broadway version ^_^ and Joanne is the same person from the movie. Maureen and Angel are hilarious in the play "new york city WoHooo" haha. I dunno i think it's a pretty well casted play in my opinion. If you saw the recorded live broadway theatre version i think you would see my perspective.
Sudden completely random cheers at 3:01 disoriented me. Otherwise, total brilliance.

@mastromjm It's because it's Idinia Menzel and she was so popular in Wicked- they're all probably cheering because she's talking.

It's just amazing how after all these years, they still sound incredible.
Now, I have never seen it on Broadway, nor on any stage, but I have seen the movie.
I watch videos ALL the time of it on Broadway and it seemed so wonderful.....
Rent changed my life and it made me realized I need to live today like it's my last, and love the people around me.
Thank you Jonathon Larson, you changed peoples lives.

The guy who s singing marks part at the beginning sucks
ddvaldez 3 years ago
NO HE DOESN'T!
Anthony Rapp can't always play Mark!
He has a life, just like me and you!
And if you watch some more of the "Dude who plays mark at the beginning", singing, he is very good!
loulouthesweet 2 years ago
1st off, Im not saying that it always has to be Anthony Rapp playing Mark, Im just saying that they should get a guy who can actually sing the part.
And I dont think I wanna hear anymore of that guy singing.
ddvaldez 2 years ago
and what I'm saying is that in some other songs he sings, like what you own, he's voice is great.

I was crying when i saw this on the tonys, because the mark is so crappy
and then I saw the movie of the final performance of RENT, and cried even more, because this performance is actually that mark doing a good job
plus, i think that when they sang 'seasons of love', it should have just been the original cast singing
hewasneverminetolose 3 years ago
Adam Kantor and the rest of the cast were amazing live on Broadway, so before you judge them here, watch them there.
