lol don't turn evo fan boy all the sudden, there are some trucks out there that an evo x simply couldn't touch. #diesel ...I don't own a truck, just stating the facts :p
@badVWbug Is the turbo smoke white? I have a ct9 turbo at the moment. I'm not really pushing it hard. But at idle (only idle really, like if I sit at a light for a minute) it'll chug white smoke like a mofo. But if I'm moving it's okay.
@psychoninja911 I couldn't say 4sure, but it very well could be the turbo, mine did much the same. Could be a lot of other things as well though, like valve-seals for example. It may look white-ish but it's actually a blue/grayish tinge when oil burns.Usually lingers like a heavy slow cloud. White is generally burnt coolant and tends to dissipate faster. I've seen watercooled turbos crack and burn coolant. (not familiar with urs n too lazy to look it up lol may not apply) Best of luck man!
Yea that happened to my civic. Smoke on the spool on the highway early signs that the turbo will blow soon. Always good to have a spare ebay turbo with greddy seals on the sideline.
@super2ner it is good, its far easier to replace the suffed turbo that causes the white smoke than to replace rings or something that cause blue smoke.
blowby is when compression or oil is seeping past the piston usally from cracked rings or shrunken rings or oil control ring letting oil past or broken or cracked piston all together
id advise you buy a factory turbo vehicle if you are having issues with the longevity of your internals. an evo or an sti maybe? unless you've got the pockets to properly prep a car and its engine (if you like the larger displacement motors).
How's that a blown turbo if the guy's overtaking you??? Granted, the turbo may be worn - but it's far from blown... but the even more plausible solution ---- It may just be running a rich mixture... *slaps forehead*
Your 68 GTO would flip as the 350z would continue racing around the turn...

why do blown turbos blow smoke?
ibanezkid07 1 year ago
@ibanezkid07
Bad seals, oil gets into the exhaust side, heat burns the oil = blue smoke

@badVWbug It definitely lingers with a heavy cloud. If the wind blows, it can carry the smoke over 3-4 lanes of traffic.
Today it was very bad. I have a ct9 turbo - it's not oil cooled.

It was actually Blow-by. I had a bad cylinder and ended up replacing the entire motor.

I ended up having 2 bad pistons and rods. It was blowby causing all the smoke. Bu tht turbo seals where bad as well considering all the oil inside.
