even though i only went to this stadium once it was my first baseball game in 2002 i hardly remember it other than walking through a dark tunnel and a really green grass with guys on it hitting batting practice and thats about it i was 7

the stadium kinda was small but i loved seeing reds games there since i was 4

i was at that game and actually your wrong it was the cleveland indians a few days before who beat us, and the reds were the first team to lose at CBP, its worse to lose ur last game at a stadium than ur first just ask the NY Mets. we have thousands of games left at CBP and have already won the World Series at r home park!!

well no, the indians' game was a preseason game. the reds won the first official game at CBP 4-1. they lost two days later in the second game at CBP.

if you wanna argue about success at a park, the reds did pretty well in 32 years at riverfront...won 3 world series' in '75, '76 and '90, and played in four WS' in their first six years at the park. in '76 they beat the phillies in the nlcs to get there. the fact that they lost both their first and last games at riverfront means very little.

ok ok whatever yes the first games don't matter. BTW we did get a WS at the vet, but give me a break we've only been at CBP for 5 yrs. and have won the WS already the phillies r definetly better than the reds no doubt. The only player i like on the reds is jay bruce, thats the only guy im fear on the reds

the phillies are definitely better than the reds at losing...i'll give you that. the phillies have had a better record than the reds in just 14 of the last 52 seasons.

the phils' .470 all time winning percentage is third worst among current teams. their two world series' and six pennants are significantly inferior to the reds' 10 pennants, 5 world series' and .507 all time winning percentage.

phils did well in '08...i go to school there...was fun...we'll see about '09.

I was there along with my daughter, her friend and my sister. I think the empty seats were from no shows - we couldn't get a ticket at the ticket window. I remember everyone was wishing Pete Rose would show up, especially after the game when a lot of former Reds paid tribute to the stadium. It might have been a cookie cutter stadium - but, I loved Riverfront. It'll always be home to the "Big Red Machine.!" Great American Ballpark just doesn't feel right. I miss Riverfront....

I was surprised that this game was not sold out. There were many seats available on either side of the upper deck.

The mood, while celebratory, was somewhat clouded by the lack of Pete Rose (who was not permitted to attend) in attendance. (This was prior to his admission that he had bet on baseball after all.) Many thought that he would appear, at a minimum, on the video screen. The crowd chanted his name, and a single rose was placed on the field, but he was not there.

Who did not permit Pete Rose from coming to the game?.......I've seen Pete Rose at the ballpark three different times, three different years......

I should have chosen my words more carefully. He was not permitted to participate in the on field ceremonies after the game by MBL due to the ongoing ban. I can not say that he was not permitted to attend the game; however, as i recall he has been allowed only to see his son play.
