Nobody should underestimate how difficult it is to sing and slap like this at the same time. Maintaining two entirely different, variating rhythms whilst playing precisely, quickly and all that jazz...
I remember the first time I saw Nathan (A year ago)
With the video "Glove". I had already developed a same kind of style like Nathan. This song reminds so much of my own compositions though his is so extremely much more developed than mine. Kudos to the champion. And let us all get down and practice
he is a crazily talented player but everything he plays sounds the same to me, i enjoyed it but it gets old after a few run throughs in my opinion still like to hear it everynow and then though
Try to hear the whole album at once. You will eventually get to know more of the songs and every song will become more different, although I'm hearing it for the first time and completely disagree with you
Personally i can fingerpick, rockabilly slap and thumb slap; funk slapping is just more interesting to play. The percussive way of playing makes the music more interesting. The bass and guitar are really "new" instuments there is no real way to play them. Tom Morello has actually turn a guitar solo into a DJ mixtable solo just using switches and pedals.
slapping is showboating. cool, but showboating. prove me wrong. not saying that no-one should do it, i'm just saying too many people do it. and frankly... i don't see many solovids from fingepickbassguitarplayers in here.
YAY! I want to buy your CD so bad! Make sure to include that song Glove, I hear it everytime I think of my Bass. You are an inspiration to me! Keep doing what you do!
The Original video "Glove" I posted on Youtube.com has received much appreciation. Glove was a great chance for Nate to put a visualization to his skills. Down the road I hope to capture more audio/video of Nathan Hughes, however in the meantime I seen no reason not to introduce more of his song writing to you all. TO HEAR ANOTHER NATHAN HUGHES PIECE SEARCH MY NAME: ericlepoutre, The video is titled "BASS TO SPACE"
Qual a nacionalidade dele?
Qual a formação musical desse cara?
ninguem fala nada disso na internet.
melhor baixista na minha opnião o cara é completo.

Here's a bit of showboating by me:
I'm so glad I can take a back seat and just enjoy what I'm listening to, instead of nitpicking about whatever the techniques are :)
Nathan is atm my favorite bass player, I think :D

they're not young- the bass guitar maybe- but the guitar and upright bass especially are very old.
orangetoes223 3 years ago
The Bassguitar is just 50 years old....Some guys play it and they are older than it
PhysicalDecay 2 years ago
the electric bass is about that old, but the double bass (upright) has been around much longer.
thabasszist 2 years ago
true. and i'm not saying its not beautiful or amazing. i just still think slapping is showboating.
rozebabyolifantje 4 years ago
I think slap is just a way to play, same as fingering or anything else, they're all equaly easy or hard
it depends on which you practice more, I could slap like a god and suck at fingering.....
besides this guy also sings XD
and the songs are good, it's not like it matters if it's realy hard and all, that's just the plus!
krizalidzero 4 years ago
you're good, but can you do more than just slap? i mean, with all the different techniques for the bass you pick (like so many others) the slap...
but youre very talented though, and your voice is beautifull.
rozebabyolifantje 4 years ago
well ive lost count of how bassists just 'fingerpick', or guitarists who just 'use a plectrum'.
