@micmac99 No. Back then it was owned by LIN Broadcasting, and the company brought attempts to further market the station's affiliate (NBC). This is the result.
@hilarioph In the instance of this clip it aired after "The Midnight Special", but perhaps people who watched KXAS can chime in with what other late-night programming the station had that preceded this sign-off
@hilarioph "Day by Day" was most likely KXAS's version of the sign-on and sign-off "sermonettes" TV stations used to air until the 1980's. They were voluntarily aired as part of the Television Code advocated by the National Association of Broadcasters to serve the public interest. Keep in mind this was before TBN, Daystar, cable and satellite TV, and when most cities only had three to five local channels.
The SSB on this cut is one that originally mated to a US Air Force-themed film. It starts with the Thunderbirds (flying F-100 Super Sabres) and ends with an Atlas missile lifting off at night. I've been trying to find that film for the longest, but at least now I can listen to the music.
KNBC in Los Angeles, did not use "The Star-Spangled Banner" because it gone with "America The Beautiful" instead.

Did NBC own KXAS by this time? ID slide looks like an O&O.
