I ran across this video on accident about a year ago. After watching it once it changed my views on many things. I bought the book Be Here Now, and I try to live each day that way. It brings peace to a weary soul.
At first I was kind of skeptical and had a weird mindset going into it. I had no idea what it was going to be about. But I can honestly say that after listening to this, I have yet another view of what the 'true' world is, and not just what we label everything as.
@andyinfo59 I've discovered a little about the music. It seems it is called 'Be Here Now' and was composed by Gary Malkin for a CD called Graceful Passages, a multi-faith CD of 12 tracks especially to help those people who are facing death. It seems that all the tracks have voice overs, including 'Be Here Now', but it is possible to contact Gary Malkin via his web page at
This is a very beautiful video. For the purposes of using the music at a rememberance service can anyone point me to where I can buy it or what it is called. About 15 people have made this request but no-one seems to know. Thanks and Om Shanti
@ColinN16They say truth is stranger than fiction. Many physicists are revealing theoretically that what we perceive as myth is the truth. Science will embrace a spiritual movement by "Reading the mind of God."--Stephen Hawking. We seem to forget how amazing the expanding multiverse is. Like drops of water.
takes so much more courage to be kind and compassionate then selfish and ignorant....lets show gratitude for the people who were brave enough to see this and share there message with us....you know of this when sombody gives and asks nothing in return..like ram dass and this message for us
@InvisibleRefugee2 I think acceptance is a better word than forgiveness. Sometimes forgiveness is a bridge too far, however hard we try. In life, yesterday is just a memory, good or bad, the future a fantasy, it may never come. The reality is in this moment. Life is often not satisfactory. If you can accept that and don't kick against it you can achieve peace and freedom beyond your wildest hopes. May you be happy!
what are we all essentially living for? we live to ? Yes we live to die. Its almost an oxymoron in itself. But it makes and is sensible. From day one we are dying , when we come out of the womb, we are not living getting any younger. We are dying , aging, our vehicles are morphing, but are souls are here to experience it all ..in all its beautifully tragic glory.
An amazing combination of power and tranquility like that of a grandfatherly old soul guilding you accross turbulent waters till you reach a peaceful harbor.
Yes, beautiful words, but choose life. God has given us life and we need to cherish every day. Some of us can take only one day at a time. Some can easily look towards the future. For those who can't see a tomorrow, that is okay. All of us are born with imperfections. Most people hide their flaws. Be kind to your soul. Breathe. Simplify. Crappy as this world might seem, you have a right to exsist. Feed your mind and soul good, healthy thoughts and actions.
i always imagine death to be like what it was before i was born, i just knew i existed, not here but somewhere else. part of the universe's consciousness and matter. i wish to be buried when i die, straight in the ground and i want a tree to be planted over me.
If she only whanter survive she was on 1 if she was siociety human she was on 2 if she whanted domintate others she was on 3 if she knowed love but couldnt ecspression it jet she was on 4 if she was cioncious about cerating reality she was on 5 if she know pure true she was on 6 with unity with 7 7 is all cionciousness conectet to SUPER one cionciousnnes what I call Only GOD.
But one more think she is free now more than there.
MarioLoco03 i know exactly what you mean and how hard it can be to stay diligent to such advice. be reassured that you do have control over whether or not you let those crazy things keep you from applying this advice to your life. i know its easy to say but just dont give up and YOU CAN achieve what dass speaks of !!

where do you hear Watts saying "there are other realms that this one" or talk about souls and such? You must admit that Ram is more mystical than Watts, who approaches things from a more observable, gritty, science-based angle.
I'm open minded, and yeah I looked up some Ram Dass pages... I'm not saying he's a fool or anything but there's definitely a more mystical, "have faith in things you cannot see" angle there, and anytime you start talking about souls and spiritual realms as if they're literally real, you lose me. You don't hear Watts doing that unless he follows it up by saying "I'm being metaphorical". I get the sense that Ram prescribes literal belief in souls, afterlife, etc.
well...hence i used the word "complimentary". I don't know that Ram is more mystical, in as far as I understand mysticism...it's a different type of mysticism. I agree, Watts is less inclined to the supernatural.
seems people are confused, he is religious, but not in any way associated with major organized religions, he does follow aspects of buddhism and taoism and ideas in hinduism, but his views are far more broad than sticking it to a labeled religion, and yes his first experiences of spirituality came from the 60's with experimentation with lsd and mushrooms...but that was only the spark that shifted his interest. research him, hes a beautiful person, thats rare to find.

Gaze into the candle flame, staying relaxed and calm, watching the flame. Now focus your gaze at the place where the blue color of the flame meets with the gold~this is the point where your potential for sight can be developed. Absorb as much energy as you can........xo

Unfortunately this is what people think I'm recommending when I send them to Alan Watts. They think "oh Watts is one of those feel-good nature sounds yoga guys" and he's not. It seems to me that this video IS like that. All motivation, no content. Where's the philosophy and conversation?

You mightn't like the presentation here, but Ram Dass's stuff is very complimentary to Watts, especially Watt's later stuff.

where do you hear Watts saying "there are other realms that this one" or talk about souls and such? You must admit that Ram is more mystical than Watts, who approaches things from a more observable, gritty, science-based angle.

Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon ..
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone ..
They shall have stars at elbow and foot ..
Though they go mad they shall be sane ..
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again ..
Though lovers be lost love shall not ..
And death shall have no dominion ..

what does it mean to be here now?how do you accomplish it?
Torcika 2 years ago
by bringing the mind back to present moment. Not thinking about the past of the future. Accepting the present moment as it is, good or bad, non-judgmental of all your experiences. This is mindfulness!

It is easier said than done.
Not criticizing just look for answers,
Thanks!!!
