  • You have pretty good siren coverage in Topeka.

  • I had a tornado warning on the fourth in 2007 and I was putting up a light. My weather radio went off and saved our lives in dauphin County pa.

  • wow is miss your fireworks day up

    lol

  • that tornado happened by perry lake i saw it myself but it was f0 because it went up as soon as it went down it was really freaky it was the second tornado i have ever seen

  • Whoops! the may 2007 warning was taken on the 1st & was added on the 2nd. My mistake

  • Know what? I've seen the video of the warning for may 2nd 2007 and now this video on independence day 2007 which is on a 1st wednesday of the month in which sirens in my county and lots of other counties need to be tested. kinda strange

  • what was the loud noise at 2:18 or @2:19

  • Some sort of firecracker, this was taken on the 4th of July.

  • the tornado did not touch down

  • Yep the model 5 is located on the roof of that elementry school you filmed.

  • That is correct. I wish it would have been working when i filmed this, when its not you barely hear the sirens.

  • The sirens I heared are two 2001s and a Thunderbolt 1000 and 1000T.

  • That is correct. The model 5 which is up the street from me was not working during this warning.

  • I remember this. I grabbed my fireworks and headed to my parents house! lol Topeka is always lucky though we never get anything anymore. Except a flood or heavy rain that's it. Storm season isn't over yet though....still got time for a big one.

  • I think the high pitched siren that you mentioned might be a thunderbolt 1003. some are 2001s. where did the tornado touch down from where you live?

  • There are no 1003s in Shawnee County. There was an unofficial tornado touchdown in the northern part of the county, otherwise it was just a lot of funnels.

  • what sirens are heard in this video? I mainly hear 2001's am i correct. i hear a lower pitched siren also, is that a tbolt 1000?

  • Yes, you hear 2 2001s, and a Thunderbolt. There is a Model 5 5 blocks away from me but i am not sure it has been sounding lately, but we currently don't have a EM Director (They are in the process of interviewing some) so there is no one i can contact about that problem.

  • I live in Ontario, about 15mins from Niagara Falls, we get tons of Tornado warnings, but nothing. The only thing has me concerned is that three years ago, they removed all the sirens, supposely they were used during the war and werent needed anymore. But still, what if a Tornado is spotted, how the heck will they warn the public? Nice vid, I love the clouds.

  • There are a couple of cities in Tornado Alley that choose not to have siren systems. They say you should have a Weather Radio, but what if you are outside?! I have no idea how they would warn you if you was outside unless they have a police car sound its sirens (As they have done here when the sirens weren't working) But i would just tell you to keep an eye on the sky when there is a Tornado Watch and check on the weather every once in a while.

  • What I don't understand about that is what if you are in the middle of nowhere and you can't check in to the weather during a tornado watch. No one would know what is coming and when.

  • Well Sirens cost a lot of money. So i don't think your local municipality is going to install sirens in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully if you was in the middle of nowhere, you would have some sort of radio or a cell phone so you would be warned.

  • True.

  • Yes thats true, but think back 100 years ago when sirens didn't exist. Lives were lost, but many survived. Back then people knew to watch the skies and knew what to look for.

  • i can hear hail

  • No you can't. It wasn't even cloudy at this point.

  • i can here a steady banging

  • That's just the camera, it picks up every single noise.

  • Was that fire works or thunder at 2:19

  • I believe it was fireworks...

  • Stoneaged92 and Backgam: There was a Tornado reported in Jackson County (The county above us) and a ton of funnels reported around the City of Topeka...but no damage that i know of.

CoolBalla15: I don't think so, idk though the 2001s could be drowning it out. Even though it is 5 blocks away it isn't as loud as the 2001s and the thunderbolt.

  • Model 5 is still isn't working?

  • Tornado Warning on the 4 of July also where did it hit?

  • Nice footage. Did your neighborhood get hit by anything?

  • Is this a test or a real warning.

  • I am going to let you take 1 more chance to look at what the title says before i answer that...

  • Oh so it is a warning.

  • I'm see I'm not the only one having a great 4th of July, lol.

    Siren happiness all over :)
