I agree that 1963 was the first very strong year for Eurovision, with fabulous entries from Denmark, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Monaco, Yugoslavia & Luxembourg. However, beating them all for me was Austria - finally making up for all their previous dreadful entries. Furthermore, I just love the staging of this year's contest. To be honest, I simply can't see what difference it makes if the performances were live or not, when they look that cool...
where do u get these songs? good evening london, Jakarta calling: 12 - finland 10 - netherlands 8 - sweden 7 - monaco 6 - italy 5 - germany 4 - denmark 3 - switzerland 2 - yugoslavia 1 - austria that concludes the votes of the indonesian jury
Very high standard that year, France, Luxembourg, Austria, Monaco and of course the winner, Denmark. Funnily enough, I don't think fourth, third and second deserved their places in the light of these other entries.
Here is my German vote: 1 to Denmark (Netherlands) 2 to Finland (Denmark) 3 to Monaco (Finland) 4 to Germany (Monaco) 5 to France 6 to Italy 7 to Luxembourg 8 to Austria 10 to United Kingdom 12 to Switzerland
I know that the voting is over, but here are the Brazilian votes, anyway: 1p: UK 2p: Monaco 3p: Austria 4p: Italy 5p: Netherlands 6p: Germany 7p: Switzerland 8p: Luxembourg 10p: Sweden 12p: Denmark
I was rather hoping that Switzerland would get the belated recognition for the victory that it was clearly deprived of as can be seen in the voting sequence from that night.
In the ESC's first truly, amazingly strong year (one of my all-time favorites, actually), the results of our poll reflected those of the actual contest, with Denmark and Switzerland battling it out for most of our poll. The final winner: the Ingmann couple, giving Denmark their 2nd win in our polls, while the rest of the top-5 is taken over 4 truly marvellous French-language ballads (incl. our very own Nana Mouskouri!).
That's it, folks - voting's closed! Here are the final, official results of the 1963 vote - the top-10... 1) Denmark 253 2) Switzerland 229 3) Luxembourg 162 4) France 146 5) Monaco 123 6) Germany 110 7) Italy 94 8) Sweden 89 9) UK 72 10) Austria 59
Latest update on the full scoreboard - the top-10... 1) Denmark 241 2) Switzerland 219 3) Luxembourg 157 4) France 140 5) Monaco 116 6) Germany 106 7) Italy 92 8) Sweden 89 9) UK 71 10) Austria 56
Two consecutive sets of full marks help the Danish further extend their lead, while Italy's wonderfully charming Emilio Pericoli climbs to 7th place. The current results: 1) Denmark 229 2) Switzerland 209 3) Luxembourg 150 4) France 132 5) Monaco 110 6) Germany 106 7) Italy 91 8) Sweden 86 9) UK 69 10) Austria 56 After much deliberation along with my fellow ESC fans, voting closes on February 27! Vote for your favorites today!
High marks from our latest voters help Nana Mouskouri moves into the top-3 for the first time, while Françoise Hardy climbs back to 5th place. The latest top-10: 1) Denmark 205 2) Switzerland 194 3) Luxembourg 130 4) France 129 5) Monaco 100 6) Germany 92 7) Sweden 82 8) Italy 80 9) UK 67 10) Austria 53 Last place: still Norway, with 17 points
The latest results show Sweden's Monica Zetterlund inching up to 8th place: 1) Denmark 166 2) Switzerland 159 3) France 105 4) Luxembourg 92 5) Germany 83 6) Monaco 71 7) Italy 69 8) Sweden 65 9) UK 61 10) Austria 50 Interested in voting for more contests? The Ingmann couple are once again on their own at the top. Here's an update on the full scoreboard - the top-10... 1) Denmark 159 2) Switzerland 149 3) France 99 4) Luxembourg 89 5) Germany 71 6) Monaco 69 7) Italy 68 8) UK 61 9) Sweden 60 10) Austria 42
One of the best danish songs ever... and a deserved winner... Netherlands 1 point Switzerland 2 points Sweden 3 points Norway 4 points Yugoslavia 5 points Luxembourg 6 points Italy 7 points Monaco 8 points France 10 points and Denmark 12 points
With the fierce competition between Esther Ofarim and the Ingmanns, it was all but assured that at some point they'd come to share the lead - and another intriguing tie has also formed in 6th place! The current top-10: =1) Denmark 147 =1) Switzerland 147 3) France 89 4) Luxembourg 83 5) Germany 71 =6) Italy 61 =6) Monaco 61 =6) UK 61 9) Sweden 57 10) Austria 42 Interested in voting for more contests? Top marks from Romania help the Ingmanns reclaim the lead, while the lovely Françoise Hardy inches up to 6th place. Here's how it all looks like: 1) Denmark 142 2) Switzerland 139 3) France 79 4) Luxembourg 71 5) Germany 69 6) Monaco 58 7) Sweden 57 8) UK 55 9) Italy 54 10) Austria 42 No change in last place: Norway, with 9 points
Some dramatic changes in our scoreboard, since two back-to-back 12s help Esther Ofarim regain the lead, while France jumps from 5th to 3rd place and Sweden and Italy also work their way up. The latest top-10: 1) Switzerland 137 2) Denmark 130 3) France 69 4) Luxembourg 66 5) Germany 63 6) Sweden 57 7) Monaco 55 8) UK 48 9) Italy 46 10) Austria 42 ...And you can watch the whole contest in my playlists!
Ouuuuuuuuuuch ESC 1963 was a DAMN difficult edition to judge but here´s my result: 1 point to Monaco 2 points to United Kingdom 3 points to Finland 4 points to Italy 5 points to Luxembourg 6 points to Austria 7 points to France 8 points to Belgium 10 points to Yugoslavia .........and FINALLY my 12 points go to S W I T Z E R L A N D!!! T´EN VA PAS ESTHER,T´EN VA PAS, JE VOUS EN PRIE!!!!THIS ONE SHOULD HAVE WON!Shame on Norway - YOU CHEATED!!!You therefore deserved 0 Points!
Germany's Heidi Bruhl climbs into the top-3 for the first time, while Nana Mouscouri jumps from 7th to 4th place. Here's an update on the full scoreboard - the top-10... 1) Denmark 124 2) Switzerland 113 3) Germany 60 4) Luxembourg 59 5) France 57 6) Monaco 54 7) Sweden 50 8) UK 42 9) Austria 36 10) Italy 32
The Ingmanns are still on top, but Esther Ofarim doesn't seem ready to give up yet - and what's most impressive is that those two have accumulated more points than the ones in positions 3-6 put together! Meanwhile, France and Germany have caught up with Sweden in 4th place. The latest results: 1) Denmark 116 2) Switzerland 107 3) Monaco 54 =4) France 50 =4) Germany 50 =4) Sweden 50 7) Luxembourg 47 8) UK 38 9) Austria 34 10) Italy 32 ...And you can watch the whole contest in my playlists!
1 point to italy 2 points to norway------,who sings their?! 3 points to finland 4 points to sweden 5 points to france 6 points to luxembourg 7 points to austria 8 points to germany
It's true, but I think that the studio version heard in this video is not by Anita since, from what I know, she never recorded this song (because she hated it, according to reports). I think it's a male singer in this one, although I don't know who it could be. Any help?
"Solhverv" had quite a rocky history. Nora Brockstedt was supposed to represent Norway, but she had so little faith in the song's chances, she refused. Anita wound up doing it (probably just for the free trip to Paris), though she hated the song so much she refused to record it. The recorded version is by Jan Høiland, who is indeed very male.
Ah, I knew I could count on you, my friend! Thanks for clearing this out! (btw, yes, it's not such a strong song, but it's not such a bad one either - I've surely heard much worse)
Denmark is slowly but steadily starting to build a considerable lead over Switzerland, while Sweden moves up to 4th place. The current top-10: 1) Denmark 106 2) Switzerland 95 3) Monaco 54 4) Sweden 46 5) France 45 6) Germany 42 7) Luxembourg 41 8) UK 38 9) Italy 31 10) Austria 27 A change in last place: Norway, with 7 points
My votes: 1 point to Italy 2 points to France 3 points to Germany 4 points to United Kingdom 5 points to Monaco 6 points to Finland 7 points to Sweden 8 points to Switzerland 10 points to Luxembourg 12 points to Denmark
Sweden's Monica Zetterlund climbs from 7th place to a joint 5th, while Austria's Israeli import Carmela Corren returns to the top-10. The current results: 1) Denmark 94 2) Switzerland 87 3) Monaco 49 4) France 43 =5) Germany 39 =5) Sweden 39 7) UK 34 8) Luxembourg 31 9) Italy 30 10) Austria 27
T. if Switzerland had 59 before cdnserbluvr & mangoteppe voted (12+8) then their total should be 79 not 77. Is that so? Not trying to be Frank Neef again (lol)
(sigh) Oh, yes, you're right **again**. Gosh, I'm starting to feel like the guy who managed the scoreboard in the '81 contest (and totally screwed it up). Glad to have you on board to oversee the proceedings, Frank! :-D
I remenber, he kept interrupting poor Doireann Ni Bhrian, a very bright lady (whom I've met - BRAG BRAG), who had a much better handle on proceedings. But you're not like him at all (YOU'D NEVER MAKE SUCH A MESS).
Min Topp 10: (Uten Norge) 1 poeng: Sverige 2 : Nederland 3 : Finland 4 : Italia 5 : Frankrike 6 : Storbritannia 7 : Luxemburg 8 : Sveits 10 : Tyskland Og de 12 poengene går til: Danmark (A VERY good song and a worthy winner!)
Esther Ofarim manages to once more catch up with the Ingmanns (just 1 point behind0, but it's a really close voting in the rest of the top-10 too, with the marvellous Alain Barriere climbing from 7th to 4th place and the Dutch dropping from 5th to 10th (!). The current scoreboard: 1) Denmark 70 2) Switzerland 69 3) Monaco 49 4) France 31 5) Germany 29 =6) Sweden 28 =6) UK 28 =8) Belgium 25 =8) Italy 25 10) Netherlands 22
The latest voting by gth311 has caused a stir in our scoreboard, with Germany rocketing from 8th to 4th and the Netherlands making an impressive return to the top-10: 1) Denmark 70 2) Switzerland 59 3) Monaco 41 4) Germany 28 =5) Netherlands 22 =5) Sweden 22 =7) France 21 =7) Italy 21 =7) UK 21 10) Belgium 20 ...And you can watch the whole contest in my playlists!
After coccola's vote, our two duelists seem to be already distancing themselves from the rest - and taking turns at the top, with the Ingmann couple now ahead of Ms. Ofarim. Meanwhile, Belgium and Luxembourg (with our very own Nana) break into the top-10. The latest results: 1) Denmark 60 2) Switzerland 59 3) Monaco 41 4) Sweden 22 5) France 21 6) Austria 19 7) Belgium 17 =8) Germany 16 =8) Italy 16 =9) Luxembourg 15 =9) UK 15 Last place: Norway, with 4 points (a form of punishment, perhaps?)
Hello Tasos and the rest of you voters. Here are my votes: 1 point Yugoslavia 2. Germany 3. Austria 4. Italy 5. Luxembourg 6. Monaco 7. France 8. Belgium 10. Switzerland 12. Denmark Difficult to choose between Switzerland and Denmark because both of them are just amazing.
Yes, I agree. I had the same problem choosing between them myself (I believe that, in the end, it was Jorgen's guitar that pushed him and Groethe just that tiny bit ahead in my mind).
Yes, like I said, Grethe and Jørgen were sort of the Danish version of Les Paul & Mary Ford. A similar mix of pretty female vocals and exotic, jazzy electric guitar.
Jørgen was already somewhat famous in the States, as in 1961 he had a HUGE hit with a cover version of the Shadows' "Apache," on which he played all the parts (even the "drum sounds") on his guitar.
Yes, I have his version (although I didn't know about him playing all his parts!). That's another reason for my admiration of the '63 contest (apart from the songs, of course); Jorgen Ingmann, Francoise Hardy, Nana Moushouri, Esther Ofarim, Emilio Pericoli... all acts who already had, or were about to have, a successful international career. You certainly don't see that in today's contests!
After 5 votes coming in (thanks to LukeJanik and SundownerDrifting), it seems like history repeating, with Denmark and Switzerland fighting it out for the top - although, with since no Norwegians have voted yet, Esther is the one leading right now ;-) The current top-10: 1) Switzerland 49 2) Denmark 48 3) Monaco 35 4) Sweden 22 =5) Austria 16 =5) Italy 16 7) UK 15 =8) France 14 =8) Germany 14 =8) Netherlands 14 ...And you can watch the whole contest in my playlists!
Well, I'm of Scandinavian descent...my great grandfather Nils-Olof came over on the boat from Sweden! I swear that didn't influence my voting, though! Sweden, Denmark and the Francophone entries were all REALLY good this year!
Yes, I agree they were all absolutely great! Well, since you're of Swedish and not of Norwegian descent, I guess your credibility remains intact... :-D (just kidding, of course)
Deliberately not checking the other posts till I've posted my votes: 1 point: Netherlands 2 points: Norway 3 points: Finland 4 points: Austria 5 points: Belgium 6 points: France 7 points: Switzerland 8 points: Monaco (LOVE Françoise!) 10 points: Denmark and 12 points to... Sweden!
...So, after 3 votes coming in, here's a first top-10: 1) Switzerland 34 2) Denmark 32 3) Monaco 23 4) Austria 12 5) Spain 11 6) Sweden 10 =8) Germany 9 =8) Luxembourg 9 =9) France 8 =9) UK 8 =9) Yugoslavia 8 It says sth about the quality of the year that, although there's only 3 votes in, only Finland has yet to score - everybody else has already gained sth.
And I've just realized I've left out our own Nana Moushouri - undeservedly, since her song was also very good! But, sadly, there was no room for her in my top-10...
So glad to vote for one of my favorite years ever! Here's my top-10: 1 point: Italy 2: Yugoslavia 3: Germany 4: Sweden 5: Austria 6: Spain 7: France 8: Monaco 10: Switzerland and 12 points to... Denmark God, that was hard! Almost any of these 10 songs (and esp. the top-7) would have gained my 12 points in another year. Well, that's the thing about great years...
"Dansevise" was indeed amazing - a worthy winner and the best Danish entry ever, IMO - but this year had at least 5-6 masterpieces, each of which would have swept the board in a weaker year. Switzerland, France, Monaco, Austria, Italy (ok, the lat one's not that great, but what a performance!)... and even low-scoring entries like Spain, Germany, Sweden and Yugoslavia - a truly amazing year indeed!

votes in favor of their neighbors the Danes, hence depriving the Swiss
of their second victory.
