she is so good its scary...... she is so beautiful its scary.... she is so authentic its scary... an angel in the flesh... she is here to awaken love and longing and to cast light upon our mortal coils that darken in these times
This is an exceptionally gourgeos cover of one of the greatest singer/songwriters in history, Lisa Hannigan posesses exquisite vocal beauty. I would absolutely love to go to this pub and spend countless hours listening and having a few drinks.
I used to sing Lisa's version of this song all the time when I was pregnant. My baby would be kicking and I'd start singing it and she would stop, like I put her to sleep. Now she is 2-1/2 months old and I still sing it to her. She'll be crying, and I put her on my chest and sing this so she can hear my heartbeat and the song and it calms her right down. She usually ends up falling asleep. This song will forever be "her song". I don't know what I'd do if this video ever got deleted! lol.
wow. I don't know who Lisa Hannigan is, but I've just been listening to one cover of this song after the next, and this by far (as the previous poster noted) really nails it. Beautiful. Whoever you are, thanks for this. ^__^
@handballr15 hey a minor slip on a fine job - give her a break. (besides, maybe they just don't allow wet t-shirts entering 'Rue Morgue Avenue'.. although last I heard Poe wasn't talking!)
@oldalco I was going to point out the same lyrical faux pas, so I'm glad I read the comments. On the one hand, I agree with you (i.e. give her a break), but on the other hand, Dylan doesn't have any throwaway lyrics. The image of the rain is important to the song and gives it a feel that isn't quite there without it. But I suppose it can slide because Lisa is so goddamn beautiful and the rest of the performance is flawless.
Adorable!!! I was once walking around lost in the rain in Juarez and it was Easter time too, early April 2006, now four years later my negativity still won't pull me through....that very same night Dylan sang this song just on the other side of the Mexican border in El Paso, Texas...this song was on my mind for days.....even met him there very early that morning when the crew buses were filling up for petrol at 3.30 AM...funny experience...the man's a rare living genius... Hans in France
This is great! I got a little chill when it started cuz I thought, is that Dick Mac's? (I've only been in Dingle once, several years ago, but it seemed familiar!) Her voice is amazing. Can't wait to show this to my husband the huge Dylan fan.
different version, that's for sure - was going to back out right at the start but then I listened and it wasn't actually that bad. One day somepone will sing this song just like dylan did in '66 and whoever does will have a smash on their hands.
One of the best Dylan covers ever. Lisa really captures what the song is about. Not like alot of the other hack artists that have covered Dylan the past.
ok-i'd like to consider myself a bit of a big Bob Dylan fan.i've heard lots of covers of his more popular songs-Knocking on Heaven's Door,Blowing in The Wind, etc. And in fairness,Highway 61 Revisited is a great album, but how many people would pick that song? Like its a great song, and she does it brilliantly, but the fact that she had the balls to pick it makes it even better :D
This is terrific. It's an amazing song to begin with-- and this take makes it dreamier and more intimate. Not as breathy and soulful as Nina Simone's, but more otherworldly. Good job.
This is great! I haven't thought about this old song and tale in so long. And while the whisper of BD's version is there in every word and beat, this cut at it is fresh and confidently its own, mournful-but-wise, soulfully-quiet-yet-musical, pitch perfect.
sadly talent is nothing without opportunity so she she represents beautiful, favorable circumstances. besides, its the biz; its not surprising to have a famous music star, its a surprise that shes so good --- hence, today fame and talent very separate and seem to only rarely come together in popular music
Shows like that are not how independent music tends to spread. How self-inflated would a political comedian be to think his stage is more important than her terrific music?
I found out about her through Damien Rice. Found out about Rice from a friend with good taste. Then I found Colbert through her, not the other way round. I think I had heard of him before, but I couldn't have picked him out of a group before I watched Lisa on his show. Colbert got a Hannigan bump, IMO.
Why wasn't I born further down the line and in beautiful Ireland on the Dingle peninsula....so I could have heard this angel sing live in this pub.......wonderful artist
omg! another briliant song with much wisdom easy to understand her and she has a Beautiful voice i am so amazed ! she goes finshing and with Gods help she will catch many
you know the first time I heard your voice was in Mexico City, in a record shop, ("Remember" with Demian Rice). You had the best voice I had heard in years and I was absolutely stunned and touched, and had to by his record at once (because of your voice!). still now, one of the things I remember Mexico City by is your song...

I can only immagine that the box is exactly what it appears to be. The pub is an old irish pub, and that box is for musicians to play without destracting the patrons...
yea it just seems so weird doesn't it? i mean, you can barely see them. i like to watch musicians when they preform and this setup is so awkward. are all old irish pubs like this?
I have no idea. :D. I would love to find out though. It's very rustic and charming, and I can only imagine that the Cranberries got thier start locally this way.
Not all, but the really old ones do. That part of the pub is called the 'snug'...usually they are just inside the door, and they were traditionally for women to sit & talk, away from the men! That was a big improvement from when women weren't allowed in pubs at all! Like, there'd be at least one pub per town/village still with a snug. I think they're great. :) & they're quaint & this just looks class. This is feckin' great!
