Good vid and good demo. After I got used to The Shaggs, I started to "get" it, LOL! I think they're great. They're actually hazardous to my musical tastes, because after I listen to "Philosophy...", everything else I try to listen to sounds "flat", or "fake"...I don't know if I'm making sense, hmm. All I know is that rock in general needs to be stripped down and rethought...Maybe only those of above a certain IQ, but under a certain degree of "technical skill", should form bands :D
@DrivenBlues Please email me at aschon@verizon.net. We can try and work something out and selling the guitar. It's in pristine condition with its case and everything.

Wow, I had been curious as to what these guitars sounded when Guitar Player magazine wrote about it not too long ago... I've been wanting one since then, and now I see that it would be worth it!
Can't help but wonder what it would sound like with overdrive or distortion, though...

I currently own an Avalon Av-2t and it is in pristine near original condition. Aside from some very minor nicks on the bottom of the guitar (as to be expected after 42 years), it is perfectly preserved. It has all original components (including the plate that goes around the whammy bar) and the the whammy bar. Along with this it also has its case that was custom made for the guitar in the 60's. I would be willing to sell, but it will not be inexpensive due being so rare. Please re if interested.

Whoa! I didnt know if anyone else had this guitar. I myself have one, if anyone was wondering, its an Avalon av-2t "the shaggs". incredibly rare. iteresting though because on looknig at yours, mine has a mtela plate covering the strings right before the bridge.
It looks a bit like a Mosrite Ventures model to me. Just a bit. I have a few questions: In the video you said the album was released in 1969 but in the description it says 1960. Was that a typo? Also what is the fretboard radius? It looks a bit flat, That isn't bad though.
It's definitely Mosrite influenced with the angled neck pickup and offset body. But that huge headstock and those curled horns with the beveled body are truly their own thing!
"Philosophy of World" was recorded and released in 1969, but I don't really know the date of the guitar itself - so I just said "1960's" in the title - implying a rough guess of "the sixties". I just researched the guitar a bit more and it might be a Avalon AV-T2 from 1968...
Sounds sweet but it's a tad beat up. Well loved as they say.You gotta see my one-pickup 1969 Teisco Del Rey and my 1973 Hagstrom H II N. The latter of which only 210 were ever made. If some famous guitarist suddenly decided to play that guitar, it would instantly jump in value to 1959 Les Paul price range. :D
Yeah - the guitar itself is in pretty nice shape, but the finish is checking pretty badly. Someone might want to refinish it, but I like leaving guitars original even if they are a bit ugly.
Somehow I have never owned a Hagstrom... but I've always wanted one - beautiful guitars!

what kind of pedal do u use to make that sixties souund? i need to get it!
hop21537 2 years ago
@hop21537
No pedal, just use reverb and echo (Those can usually be found on amps themselves).
I've found a tiny bit of tremolo will usually help as well.
