@ All those who are wondering about the fate of this bus: It is laid up till 2 Nov 2012 and it possibly will not be deregistered as all SBS buses have a standard 17-year lifespan except those with lifespan extension which will have 19 years. Keep your fingers crossed! :)
These MANs have Malaysian Gemilang bodies, right? Hong Kong also has a few of such but they are 18.280NL273 A91, a higher member of the HOCL series. 4-speed 864.3E-DV500 as well.
@bearchoirfan Yup. SMRT is currently taking order of 200 MAN A22s with Gemilang bodies as well but the demonstrator SMB138Y had a MCV Evolution body possibly from UK or Egypt. (MCV is an Egyptian company with a subsidiary in the UK.)
i love this bus. the ride is plenty smoother than the KUB's, thanks to the good suspension system. its also not as jerky as the KUB, due to it being heavier, and it feels more planted. it stops and goes smoothly, not like the jerky KUB.
We Hong Kong have these but are 280ps versions (18.280NL-A91), also 4-speed (864.3E-DV500). They work well even on the steep Tung Chung Road near the airport on Lantau Island.
i understand perfectly that the engine in the 18.240 produces only 850nm of torque, and the engine in the KUB, the scania DC9 arent particularly powerful engines. but its the speed limiter that prevent the buses from hitting top speed. even sbs's volvo B7RLE, with 290bhp and 1200nm of torque, cant get past 60kmh due to the speed limiter in effect.
@EugeneXL Nope. SBS Transit's OC500LE is also bodied by Gemilang but it looks slightly different from SMRT's, don't even talk about this. Just go to SGBuses.com and look under 'Special Events'. Then you will see 'Chitson OC500LE tour' on the side. Just click that, 'repaint' the bus in SBS livery in your mind and you will get an idea of how it looks like as compared to this bus.
heard a rumour tat scania bought over man trucks and buses company...but it could be otherwise tho...coz i heard over the news but i wish i have the facts...haha correct me if im wrong...

@EugeneXL : Yes, I ever saw them. They were nice. But why is it not popular?
fifaparadise 1 year ago
@fifaparadise Cos this bus was rarely seen, plus the fact that it was running as a industrial service and there was only one if I was not wrong
MixShadowlight 1 year ago
@EugeneXL There was supposed to be one but SBS Transit rejected the trial and now it is registered as PA9588S.

hey there my friend.Any idea why did SBST got a 4-speed instead of a 6-speed?
cx162 3 years ago
not sure whether it was MAN who purposely fitted the Voith 4 speed.
tintinspartan 3 years ago
@tintinspartan You can order MANs with HP-2/HP-4. It's the customer who makes the final decision.
bearchoirfan 1 year ago
@tintinspartan The face looks like the production batch of SMRT's MAN NL 323F In this bodywork.
The only difference is the top of the bus.It is look like some sort of handsome guy's hair
