And as for 500 horses killed on British Racecourses last year. Your mad. Where did you get this snippet of information? I don't know The exact amount but I know it's not 500. I'd be surprised if 500 have been killed it the last 10 years. I hate cruelty to Animals. Horse racing is not cruel.

Galileo has another fantastic son called Apollo out of Golden Coral, who is daughter of the fantastic Slew Gold who won over 3m in prize money back in the 80s. Apollo foaled 2009 demolished a field in a £10k maiden at the Curragh on July 17th 2011. Hes only had the 1 start in that 7f race, I imagine they are gonna step him up in trip as a 3 year old and he is gonna be very hard to beat. he is top top class. One to follow in 2012

I love the way when Fantastic Light rolled up on Galileo's outside in this race how Kinane immediately got Galileo to accelerate and leave him flat. Reminds me a little of what he did on Sea The Stars in the 09' Coral-Eclipse when Rip Van Winkle rolled up on his outside that day. JMO.

It is not good enough so many horses die in this sport. England has no consideration for these poor animals forced to do this barbaric 'sport'.

It is not good enough these horses are used for high priced sports and when they break a leg are destroyed and cast off.

Money is, as usual, taking preference over moral decency and animal welfare.

There have been something like a minimum 500 deaths of horses on UK horse tracks this year alone

Galileo had amazing acceleration. In both Derby's, and in the King George, when Mick Kinane asked Galileo to go win his race, he just bolt's to the lead incredibly quick.

Fantastic Light was a terrific colt himself, but watching Galileo accelerate when a horse come's at him is so much like watching his half brother Sea The Stars who did the same exact thing. When Rip Van Winkle came charging at him in the Coral Eclipse and looked like he might over take him, what did STS do, he stepped on the gas and found more. Watching Galileo and STS race, it's almost like watching a carbon copy of each other. IMO.

a great race....I was there. I was ther when Galileo won teh Derby. Both admirable horses. Fantastic Light showed amazing acceleration at Ascot to get to Galileo and the energy expended from teh position he was in must have been extra-ordinary. The race at leopardstown was another classic and thsi time with different tactics the result was different. galileo marginally better at 12F, fantastic Light marginally better at 10F. Timeform rated them both equal at 134 I believe

The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes is one of the highlights of the flat racing season, run annually at Ascot in Berkshire. There have been some thrilling battles over the years and the 2001 running of this great race is yet another one. I am looking forward to watch the 2008 running of the race at the end of July.

Just sat here when your message came. Loved Lammtarra but I'll tell you my persnal fave was Erhaab the year before. I wasn't really into racing but watched a few races through a gambling friend and Erhaab's Derby really got me hooked.

I think racing fans often have a race or horse that drew them to the great sport in the first place. For me it was Mtoto on the flat (I'm not the only one who thinks he is king over 10) and Mole Board (he never quite made it in the highest company) over the sticks. But I do have a special place in my heart for Blazing Walker: the best steeplechaser not to have won the Gold Cup. Check out his 1991 Melling Chase victory over top class opponents.

Happy to do it, aaronbees. I don't follow European racing closely every year, but I've been to Europe four times during the summer and got hooked on their major races every time. Last time was 2001 so I became a Galileo fan.

One time I camped and the campground was adjacent to a race course, one that was closed for the season. I went out at dusk and walked the course. The subtle elevation changes were fascinating.

I watched this race with only pictures and no sound at a market store by the harbour in Singapore. When Fantastic Light and Galileo pulled clear, I didn't need a commentator to paint the pictures - what a briiliant contest! Thanks for posting this!
