That's an odd rush to assumption. For a few reasons, mostly because the concept of Satan is primarily western/christian, these people are neither. But also because this aspect of the festival, from what I gathered, either is wholy set apart from any of the religous aspect, or at least is seen as a form of repentence for sin. Real followers of the belief behind the festival itself seem to simply go on a vegetarian fast, and abstain from sex and alcohol for the 9 days. Not very satan-y to me...

The general idea was to pay homage to one of the traditional gods (the supposed reason of bad luck awhile back). One of these ways is through meditation.
