You should check out another abandoned tunnel on the Conemaugh line about 25 miles west of the dam site, in Hyde Park. It is also from the West Penn RR era in 1864.
The western opening towards Leechburg is caved in, but the eastern opening is still accessible.
We use to go to the tunnel and bridge at night as tennagers to scare the lving bejesus out of each other. The rumor existed that wild dogs lived in the tunnel and would come and get you if you hung out too long. There was also a cemetary in the area that was pretty scary at night too.
yeah I grew up in the are and my dad would always warn me about the river. First it was about packs of wild dogs. Apparently people would let their dogs they didn't want lose in the river area. Also, in Blairsville there is an old cememetary they moved, but failed to move the stones pushed over the hill.
Very interesting video! I like watching video's of historic exploration. Especially where the railroad was involved! There are many 'ghost' railways in our area and I plan on doing some video hikes soon now that the leaves are down. I'm going to watch more of your video's!
Hi TheQ Man.. Just wanted to say that your videos are very interusting.. Have you ever Videos Centrila PA? It's been a fasination to me since (Silent Hill{Movie/game) came out and the real staory of what happened there..
I am one of the volunteers who fix the posts on that bridge and clean the trail. It's a really good trail to bike on!

That isn't the CSX line.
It is NS Conemaugh line. Begins @ CP Penn & ends at CP Conpit. (East of course)
