Also the Syufy Bros who owned Century joined Cinemark's board so they probably have something to do with the renovations that make Cinemark's look like Centuries
Actually Cinemark's acquisition of century was alot better than it could have been. The Centuries have still retained their look and at least still use the Century name. Also Cinemark has been opening new cinemas that are like Centuries combined with Cinemarks (The new Cinemarks have the murals you see in Century and the seats are like Century's but with the brown Cinemark pleather). Cinemark could have redone the Centuries altogether.
Century Theaters was my favorite theater to go to in San Jose, CA, where is across the street to Santana Row. Curse you Cinemark for aquiring Century Theatres, CineArts and Tinsletown USA.
mascot, the cat, front row joe, whatever - such a kiddie/corny beginning for Cinemark. I think Cinemark has noticed that the people in SF Bay Area don't really like this mascot so they've completely cut that stupid character out of all the movies and their advertisements very shortly after taking over the Century Theaters in the area. Good call on their part.
@itsLEKS The presence he has in the SF Bay Area is usually on the gift card ads. I think they still use him for their theatres in other markets but not in the North Bay.
it was so weird, they showed this at our local century theaters in august 2006, in front of the last movie I saw before I went off to college (i think it was talladega nights). then when i got to college, i went to my first regal cinema, and since that was owned by cinemark, i saw the cinemark opening for the first time. then, when i got back home for break, only like, two months later, century had sold to cinemark and they'd retired this opening to show the cinemark one. it was symbolic. lol
Exactly, What's up with Cinemarks human like cats presentation. CORNY! This was the best Century Theater video with the deep bass. Oh well, its all about IMAX now. We miss you Century! Get outta here cinemark!
I've always had a love/hate relationship with Century--mostly hate. Their theatre in Evanston Illinois almost got shut down by picketers because they used non-union projectionists, and I must've called the THX hotline at least fifty times in the first month on them.
They finally got better, and I started to like them, and then they had to pull this Prop 8 bullshit on me? The only semi-decent theater not in Chicago? Who DOES that?! And on top of it, they have the gall to show "Milk"? Da Nerve!
A buddy of mine produced this while working at Century. I always liked it: simple and elegant. The reason the Dolby logo is on there is because they paid for it.
That was such a retarded trailer- The Dolby logo wasn't always relevant as it played before some movies that were actually shown in DTS, and didn't differentiate between Dolby Digital or old analog Dolby Stereo. Plus, that company doesn't believe in hiring experienced people to run their theaters, and they have a strange obsession with tearing down older theaters and building shoebox theaters in their place.
This trailer wasn't retarded cuz 1) The Syufy brothers utilized Skywalker Sound to mimick the striking of each letter in CENTURY to that of the light sabor in Star Wars. 2) affirmentioned soundtrack was recorded in all 3 formats.
What the hell is the difference? I loved it. The last time I saw that FP policy trailer was January 2006 showing of the infamous 2005 remake, "King Kong" at the Suncoast 16. :D

"Sound for the next century" how nostalgic and ironic that the theater is called "Century Theatres".

I like that policy trailer music. Everytime I go to the movies, it always reminds me of when it was showing before the movie starts.

Right On!! What they did to the Orange Cinedome was disgraceful and unacceptable. Maybe it's good that Back Row Cat is now in control of it all...
