I was a Zep fan as a kid, but always hated that they always had a wimpy "sensitive" song on every record, and you had to get up and move the needle to the next cool song. I only wanted to hear the loud & fast ones. thanks to pinkstarburst95 for posting this beautiful song, truly one of Led Zeppelins finest. Thanks also for the great blog as to the recording behind this song...I always like to hear about how and why music comes to be, a little story behind the scenes so to speak. And as for you idiots who have nothing better to do than randomly seek out beautiful music loved my millions and write negative things about them, get yourself a life and do something more constructive with your time.
@LedZeppelinSuckBalls Not in a position to insult. I don't care whether you like Zeppelin or not You actually made an account just to comment rubbish on videos from one band. You are the definition of pathetic.
This song and album brings back a lot of memories. I remember hearing this for the first time in 1975 right after I turned 13 during a couple of warm, very rainy couple of weeks in September. I also remember seeing this album displayed in all the record stores because even though this was less than a year before Graffiti was released, Led Zeppelin was at their zenith. "flee from me keepers of the gloom"
The album cover is not quite right, I always thought that, but I remember this song/album on Saturday mornings (record player), cleaning/dusting w/murphy oil soap. My Dad was a clean freak. lol! Love it!
From Lord of the Rings chapter 7 'In the House of Tom Bombadil':
"As they looked out the window there came a falling gently as if it was flowing down the rain out of the sky, the clear voice of Goldberry singing up above them. They could hear few words, but it seemed plain to them that the song was a rain-song..."
That's right.Fuck them. This is the best of all time so believe in what you like. I saw them and It will always be my favorite. Like what you want to like, don't let them tell you what you will like. That is what makes you an individual.
Is this song good for getting girls i noticed theres this one girl in band class that i can always catch her attention and make her smile when i play this song
@cybercop112 OFCOURSE it is as easy to do as said....whats the worst thing thts gunna happen to u if u ask her out and she says no???? u think shes gunna beat ya up, make fun of u? No for all u know shell say yes cause some girls sum not all, know tht the jocks are not the ones they want to be dating its a passonita music geek guy as u so put it.....so go ahead and try it BUTTT.... if u do do it with confindence like she is going to say yes!
@MovieHound17 Ill try but now i need a good conversation topic i dont exactly like all the same things normal teenagers like and sadly the jocks take the class with me but the fuck with them
Next time you guys take a chick home for the first time, turn out the lights, light a few candles and put this song on softly...you can thank me later.
Exquisite. Beyond words. The Rain Song is one of my top two favorite songs of all-time. No lie. The other is Don't Fade Away by Dead Can Dance. I might be the only person on the planet with these top two faves. Tell me if I'm not.
Hey ILAN2187 A most excellent, Excellent choice of groups to admire. Although I would have put Rush 1st but shit baby you sure as hell know what super sweet tunes and who makes them!!!
@LordDarkShadow65 hey lord im sure you know what good music is rush r very rare and i think they r best after floyd and genesis [piter gabriel only] in my opinion no other band can get close to to them did you listen to starship trroper by yes if not go for it
@SLAYERMETALLICA357 my friend im sure that on pink floyd we both agree as no 1 no one can say different about genesis [piter gabriel only] as no 2 i think you dont know shit about their music . both pink floyd and genesis are unique no other band can even get close to them . spend more time listening to genesis and than talk. start with foxtrot
@jgg87 Well after reading the past two comments it's pretty clear you're either trolling or simply don't know what you're talking about, in this case being music. The fact you'd say that the beatles had a richer sound than Led Zeppelin, which comes only second to Queen and The Who in that matter, speaks for itself.
Your knowledge and taste for music makes it pretty clear you are an American, which explains everything, so there is no case in trying to argue here.
@jgg87 ahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahah I'm laughing my ass off, you're a genious ahahahahahah "here comes the sun lallala" better than this masterpiece? ahahahahahahahahahah...hey, you were trolling, weren't you?
@jgg87 yeah, maybe the same music critics which made the 100 best guitarist list and put cobain at 12 and kirk wahmmett at 11, the same critics which made 100 best artist list and didn't put genesis, dire straits, deep purple, PINK FLOYD (!!!), queen, and put red hot chili suckers...here comes the sun TA TA TA= quiet good pop song...the rain song= wonderful folk guitar chords, wonderful mellotron, wonderful lyrics, wonderful outro (IMO better than a guitar solo)=best zeppelin ballad
@markthebest90 Yes, i agree ... but remember that Page was also known for his thievery and "borrowing" of riffs. i'm a fan, but in my opinion, i think he was more technically skilled than musically talented.
@joeleaux I don't think so, I think technically skilled guitarists are people like van halen, malmsteen, kirk hammett and I think they are boring...jimmy once said "The technique does not count. I deal with emotions"...in this and many other songs, especially since i've been loving you IMO, he gives you emotions...I think he's the best guitarist ever, and one of the best musicians ever
@markthebest90 It's impressive to hear people that have memorized scales, and to hear them play, but you are absolutely right when you say they are boring. It does take years of practice to play well, but it only takes a moment to learn to play from the heart.
@otheflimflam yeah, but an entire life could not be enough to learn to give emotions...I think even if malmsteen could play 100 and more notes in 1 second, he would never give to me any real emotion
@markthebest90 Some modern players can still play with emotion despite being fast and technical, listen to tosin abasi's band animals as leaders. Specifically song of solomon, it is a masterpiece !
@joeleaux You're listening to this song, written by Page, which is absolutely exquisite and you think Jimmy is not musically talented??? Ten Years Gone, Kashmir, Going To California, I'm Gonna Crawl, SIBLY, Tea For One, Achilles Last Stand, Midnight Moonlight Seranade, Immigrant Song, Bron Yr Aur, Battle of Evermore, That's the Way, Over the Hills and Far Away and that's just the soft ones! Wow.
Don't you just love the piano (or synth, correct me if I'm wrong!) that starts really standing out after 5.00? The track is heavily dominated by the beautiful an haunting guitar but without the addition of the piano/keyboard it would not be the same.
@WassmanD But isn't life often like that? A bit bittersweet. There's beauty in that! My big girl is off to college in a few days...both happy and sad. The end of an era and yet the beginning of her life. (In Oz our school year is different to the rest of the world!)Bittersweet...as love often is. A great good ol' mixture of human feelings. Would we want it any differently? And isn't it amazing how music can speak to our souls so powerfully? A sign of great music. Wouldn't you agree?
@LuisPenseQue nahhh the crescendo of the drums and hard playing in the guitar in that part is the climax of the song its all about emotion thats a part of huge rendention and happiness then it turns quiet again. =]
Awesome. Loooove the guitar so beautiful, and the orchestra adds a wonderful depth. More musicians and bands should use the awesome power and richness of classical instruments. "Hunocsi's" suggestion, fabulous! Nothing like a rainstorm...moody, foreboding, relaxing. And the best way to sleep. Fabulous band of my college days and beyond. Love em!
hey guys im a huge Zeppelin fan and musician. i dont care about being rich or famous but i do want some fans who genuinely enjoy my music. if you take the time to listen to my newest song id really appreciate it.
Hey the beatles, the stones, led zeppelin whoever you want to say is better.... it's all great music and it needs to come back again instead of all the junk that's out there now
Ok, but what about Genesis 20/10 and Yes, it's in my youtube name so I'm biased and embarrassed as Genesis rates above Yes in my own books! To the latter part of your comment - too right!! I listen to my son's music (rap crap...please forgive my rudeness. I'm usually more respectful on youtube) to humour him. I can only blame myself for not instilling great music earlier. I have now learned;my little one (5) loves classic Genesis, Yes and The Beatles. Great music must endure.
@bronzeaxewielder yeah like adele.. what a bitch... who cries for 2 cd's over a 3 year period about a guy you broke up with years before..?? get over it and move on
Weezy has made references to Led Zeppelin "you can get that fuckin' Led Zeppelin" and all I can think of when the people are singing it is... hahaha they have no idea who or what "Led Zeppelin" is. Idiots lol
@1aggiesrule niggas is bitches, bitches i think they full of estrogen. and i hold court, nd take your life...for the settlement. Nd no i aint positive im definite, i kno the game like im reffin itttttt. my bad, your weezy line took me by surprise nd forced me to bust out the next few lines. Didnt expect to see lil wayne in the comments on a Led Zep song lol, touche
@zeromant80 George Harrison once asked John Bonham why Zeppelin didn't have any ballads (don't know where George had been since they had 'Thank You' and the acoustic LZ 3 album before this). Anyway, this song was literally a response to that comment, hence the first chord of Something as the intro. The working title was "Slush" before the lyrics were written.
"These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall. This is the wonder of devotion-I seek the torch we all must hold. This is the mystery of the quotient- upon us all, upon us all a little rain must fall... it's just a little rain" Led Zeppelin Rain Song.
"Imma blunt blowin', polo drawers showin', I don't give a lovely motherfuck ass nigga" Lil Wayne Blunt Blowin.
Everything Zep has recorded, has stood the test of time! (best ever)!

@iloveyes1 My plan is then to introduce Led Zep and Pink Floyd. She might turn out alright!

@FckThisShit666 The vein of mystic primal energy they tapped for Stairway definitely makes a comeback here.

The Beatles - Something? anyone? anyway, Thank you George Harrison..
zeromant80 3 weeks ago
